I just don't trust her. Didn't someon say she is Tasos GF IRL? Not exactly an unbiased source. It all just seems so phony, exactly like those "beta reports" the Dark and Light guys did. They even used a girl like DF is doing. Kinda shamless IMO. I smell another DnL here guyz. |

So well thought out and rational critiscim is now considered trolling? Fine, if you want to be duped into another scam, by all means go ahead....has DnL taught you anything? Aren't they even the same developers but they just changed names. I hear that a lot. |

This helped me a great deal in the trust and credibility department: "I saw someone on the forums ask if I actually thought that the game is fun. The answer is yes. It's fun and I enjoy playing it. The reason why I don't wax lyrical about it is that until it happens, I have no idea if it will run just as well with lots of people as it does with few. I'm very confident that the devs are doing a great job because what I've seen so far has exceeded my expectations, but I don't want to start saying that this game owns in font size 30 and capital letters when so far I've been in fights with at most 4-5 other people. Please don't take my restraint for lack of enthousiasm - I'm just trying to write updates as objectively as possible and to limit them to what I've experienced rather than to what I'm wishing or guessing, but I do like the game a lot." Pretty much what most of us have feared - only a very few testers and advanced testing seems absent. But, what she sees so far has exceeded expectations. If the game holds together when the population is high and all features are being used at advanced levels, we have something. |

Well I am not sure if fishy is the right word but to me this looks very "Scripted" and "made to please" kinda thing just like everything else we ever see come out of the DF Devs and Community! You know like an"infomercial"! Geez 8 years in development and this is the best kind of "staged" report I have seen so far.....Great job on making us unbelievers even more skeptical...........? Its worse to actually think about doing something then actually doing it!!! |

So you think your post is well thought out and rational criticism? Really? Because I would call it more like paranoid ignorance. You don't trust her because someone on the internet says she is Tasos' gf, seriously can you make your comments based on facts. She is biased, as she stated she is a long time friend of Tasos but your accusing her of being his gf without any basis and you say their actions are shameless because of your unfound suspicions, and then you defend your post by saying that they are the same developers as DnL when they are in totally different parts of the world so it's pretty imposible for that rumor to be true. Really you might want to actually think about whether the rumors are true before you take them as fact, I understand some people have their doubts about this game but your comment is full of trollish arguments that are pretty ignorant and thoughtless and bring NO critizism, specially not rational one, but rather bring false accusations, so in short YES YOU ARE A TROLL |

First off she's not Tasos's girlfriend but she is a friend of his. How close of a friend we don't really know for sure. Second she's not really hyping the game when she's just explaining what she's doing while playing. About the only thing she has said that was even remotely hype was that personally she is having fun while playing and she almost seemed like she didn't want to admit it. She hasn't once said that it's the greatest game ever or that it's going to rock your world or any of that type of general shameless plugs that you saw the D&L so called "testers" saying.
I swear that some of you will make anything into what you want to try to make your points. She's just reporting what the game is like and that is it... no shamless plugs... no grand claims... no blowing smoke... just what she personally is experiencing while playing. Give the girl a break as she is just trying to help us get a little taste of what the game is like. You all should be thanking her instead of trying to rip her apart.

Interesting... Just an observation, but DF is looking more and more to be similar to an online version of Oblivion to me. I like Oblivion, so it is no big deal to me, and in fact strengthens my anticipation for the game. If DF features a world scope that rivals Tamriel's depth, then they have me sold. Many folks fear ganking and griefing in DF. I know I do. But, the missiles take time to hit (as the tester makes a big point to note), meaning missiles and spells can be dodged easily. In Oblivion, you have to be pretty damn good to hit any moving target from range and that is with pretty poor AI on the mobs part... I can imagine it with DF's improved AI and against other players. In short, survival in this game will depend on how well you can keep moving. This alone may be worth the price of admission. On the flip side, if it is too hard to hit something or someone at range it could be a turn off to play those range dependent classes. For instance, some of the most popular Oblivion mods are those that increase the travel speed of missile and spell fire. We'll just have to wait and see. I like the idea of "Friendly fire." Of course, I like to solo or play in small groups. Friendly fire could well be an impediment for those seeking to form larger squads and teams, however. That is why most group oriented MMO's don't use that feature. The soloist in me is loving this. Armor penalties for spell casting and bow use is another Oblivion feature... as in Oblivion, I am assuming that better skill in armor use helps to negate these penalties? Or are all pure casters gonna be forced to wear robes? Are there armor penalties for stealth based skills as well? Buying spells and having "greyed out" options via vendors till something unlocks is just like Oblivion too. In oblivion's case, it is determined by the overall rating in the skill..the higher your rating in that skill the more the powers and perks become availiable. I am eager to see how this is done in DF. I am curious. Why is she forbidden to show a sample of the spells and menus? She mentions one spell, "Mana Missile" so why the secrecy on the others and how they work? The environments are leaving me a little flat. Now, the game is in a state of very closed beta so the environments can be much better at release. As I see it, that scenic mountain shot is nothing spectacular. The scene showing the swamp and her back is strangely flat like depth of field and shadows are turned off. The above mentioned environments appears to be somewhere between Morrowind and Oblivion in quality, with modded Oblivion being so much better. Compared to other MMO's, the scenics do not measure up to the likes of Perfect World, but I can live with older graphical looking environments if the game is fun. The toons and their armor seems kinda lackluster. This could be due to a lack of creativity on this particular tester's part, for in vanilla Oblivion it is also quite hard to make a good looking toon as well. Also, if she is in a starting zone, it makes sense that beginning gear just doesn't look all that hot. Against modded Oblivion, DF's toons and armor simply don't stack up...it ain't even close, for the talent that the fans have in making those things is often stunning. Then again, DF may well blow us away with stunning toons and gear if the game succeeds and gets a similar number of years of playing time and dedication that Oblivion has. Some of you will no doubt say I am trolling, especially comparing the game to Oblivion. That's fine. I play and enjoy Oblivion a lot, and I am only going off of the info I am given. The way I see it, being compared to an industry icon is not a bad thing at all, especially one that is well loved and respected. If DF can improve on this type of RPG and bring it to the MMO arena, then more power to Aventurine. |

I think if i was going to fake a review i would make it better then that. She just tells you what she has been doing, posts some screenshots and says that she is having fun with it. No "This game RULZZZ" or stupid crap like that. Hey, maybe this isnt Tasos's girlfriend, or even a girl at all, maybe this is ACTUALLY Tasos!!! |

[/quote] You don't know about thenoobcomic the without any question most famous online comic of all time? Honestly I think that it is likley the best possible advertising they could have ever done as the people that read thenoobcomic are also the people that will be interested in Darkfall. Paying tons of cash to Gametrailers or MMORPG.com would be targeting the wrong audience for Darkfall. |

And why would you fear for no advanced testing, you know all closed beta is for is for playerfeedback to do last minute tweaks (such as that to UI). It's been tested by payed testers for aprox. a year, they told us they weren't expecting beta's to show some large bugs or anything. The only rational part of your post was the part about worrying that the game will run much differently with a lot of people, I have no idea how they are going to test performance with a lot of people without an open beta, but maybe there's some software that could do it... but either way I'm afraid that the planned week-long (or shorter) beta may be too short. When I'm energetic I'm: When I'm at default I'm:

About the actual review: One thing i dont like- Everyone starts with magic. I still have the fear that there wont be alot of constraint on how much skill points you get. I really dont want it to be possible for you to wear full plate, use a massive 2h sword, throw fireballs and shoot lightning out of your arse. One thing i do like- Spell components. Thank you for once again believing that i am actually smart enough to gather the components that i will need to cast spells. This has been missing for far too long. |
