Originally posted by SignusM Thats sort of not true... Ultima Online was the first big MMO, followed by EQ. No, Asian MMO's "dont always have a ton of people". if you really think that you need to educate yourself badly. So because it was more successful in Asia it suddenly doesn't count? I can spin it around, Nobody ever heard of Everquest outside of the US and small parts of Europe. Lineage 1's subscribtion numbers dwarfed those of Everquest and Ultima Online, and Lineage was released before EQ. |

Not really. Playing: Star Wars: The Old Republic, occasionally TERA. Waiting For: Guild Wars 2, and Elder Scrolls Online. |

I think the similarity between early concept art of Tabula Rasa and Aion is that they were done with similar material. :( |

Tabula Rasa looked much different early in it's developement. I can see where the OP is coming from, but at the same time I think it's just a minor coincidence.

from what i understand the launched version of Tabula Rasa is mainly made by american people and is an american game. Lineage2 is made by korean people and this is why the two game is like sky and ground. the scrapped version of Tabula Rasa is mainly made by american people and few koreans and chinese helped. korean people design the characters for it and thats why it kindda look like lineage2. cloths and armors with lots of revealings and skin. destination games is an american developer that made Tabula Rasa. korean company ncsoft aquire them. later destination games is no more cause they fuse with ncsoft which make them one. destination games is now ncsoft west for usa headquater. Guild Wars is made by american people. the studio is called arena net. the game is published by ncsoft. Lineage 2 is made by korean people from main ncsoft korea. Aion is being made by the same people that made Lineage 2. if im wrong please correct me. |

Aion has a mesh of many different things from many MMOs along with some new orginal things. |

It's an interesting observation. Richard Garriot was an employee of NCsoft as where the original TR team and just like any other employee of a company any work you do on there time with the companies resources is legally that companies. So to say the original TR code has been recycled and upgraded somewhat to become Aion is completely believable. Don't know if you can run it? |

Actually Torak, he's not nuts. Granted the games have nothing really in common nor do their development histories share the same drama. But what people are not remembering are all the original TR videos. TR was extremely wild and very way out. Sort of a trippy high fantasy sci-fi game. And though Ayase verified that there is no connection, perhaps even he sees (with his "interesting observation remark) how one could take notice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjE9ZfUSPbs&feature=related go to about 2:15 in the video and not only does he mention angelic references but will also see similiar color schemes in the world and architecture. So though I'm unsure as to the actual point of the op, it is very possible that he is seeing strong similarities between the two if you consider early TR. This one is very interesting, notice the portal at the start as well as the world with the large statue that could easily be an asmodian like world. and then there's the unicorn. So it IS an interesting observation nevertheless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVkPNUyrW9A&feature=related also this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBzepFkDess&feature=related
edit: you know what? They should have left the original design and worked on gameplay. It is a lot more imaginative and interesting than what they actually did make in my opinion. In some ways it even strikes me as a more fantastical ryzom. |

I don't see what all the buzz is about any so-called new Fantasy MMO is, to me they are all the same with a different wrapper. |
