I read the recent Q&A via MMORPG.com but saw nothing about whether theres 1 server or multiple servers. Also, does anyone know how many characters per server are allowed? Cause if they have this offline daytime job, will it be setup like Eve's offline skill increase? As in, only 1 character per server is allowed to have a skill going or in this case, a daytime job?

Very good questions and lucky I can help answer those. Right now what we have been told about either multiple or single server is upp for a toss. This will be most likely decided along with other stuff during closed beta. So in other words no one knows this answer.

Now there has not been a set limit per say for how many toons you can have on a single server. I can however say that there will not be a one limit toon. That there will be more than one.

The skill advancement goes something like this. There are three different types of offline advancement you can do: Learning, Working and Achieving Goals. But only one character per account may have access to working and Achieving Goals. Which you will be able to select via login interface.

The only reason they have this is so you can gain money, advancement in your career, and special items. For those players that do not have a lot of time to get money and advance in there career.

Uhh I am pretty sure there is a QotW on this that is more detailed than what I have said. I will get back to you soon.

When was the transition from calling characters 'Chars' turn into 'Toons'?

Here is some stuff that is related to this offline advancement.

"How does the Earthrise's offline advancement mechanic work?".   From what I read we create some sort of "life simulator which takes care of three types of actions: Learning, Working, and Achieving Goals."  But we are only allowed to use "Working and Achieving Goals" on one of our characters per account, which is chosen from "the login interface."  I am guessing you are allowed to change which one get this option every time you log on. Also the rewards from offline gameplay are career advancement, money and special items.

Above was from a review I wrote from a magazine.

Actually, there is one more thing I was curious about. How does skill advancement work? Do you gain skill advancement from using the skill like in EQ or UO or do you level via killing stuff and are awarded skill points which you can choose to place where you like such as Anarchy Online or Shadowbane?

So in other words, can someone who wants to be a crafter level his crafting skills without ever fighting?

Yes infact the only way you can get higher into the skill tree is through PvE content. I bet a lot of you did not know that. PvE is the only way you will be able to get more skills, tactic and what not. You can't hone in on those skills through PvP (I know I know it is horrible and unfair). So yes the only way is through killing stuff and using that skill to unlock better tactics for that skill.

Here is an interview done by warcry.

WarCry: What is the skill system like? Will there be a lot of grinding, or is the progression fast?

AA: Earthrise will feature a large amount of skills with a wide range of active and passive abilities, further customizable with Tactics that enhance their effects in new directions, allowing players to customize their arsenal of skills to their liking. The game will require players to take on quests and kill many mutated species, regenerate robots or bandits across the island of Enterra in order to advance their skills, but the progression won't require too much of them. In fact, if players want to develop only a small group of highly specialized skills, they can reach expertise fairly quickly, and within a couple months they would be ready to match with the end content, but if they prefer variety and customization that guarantees their survival in many situations, they will have to spend considerably more time on honing their skills in-game. However, player skill remains the most important of them all - both in achieving the best suited build for their taste and how to actually play it well.

There is also a QotW that explains skill and what not a little more.

So in other words yes you can avoid the pvp content of the game. But you will not get the best of resources and trust heavly on your guild or on the  market.  As the only way of getting the rare resources is through the territorial mechanics of the game. As the rare resources are only mined by players.  Common resources however are mined by npc and players.
