No one in this thread has been able to give reasonable answers to how Aventurine with is able with a 20 man team to create this huge game. AoC failed with 200-300 people. Mythic is kinda failing at the moment too. It is interesting that whenever someone mention on these boards the fact that Aventurine has been going on for ages with this project, the fan excuse is always that they actually didn't work on it so long, because they restarted development (which is true if you look at the old stuff) but when I mention that they can't make this game with all those features mentioned here (which is NOT all they promised on their website but my copy paste fingers starting hurting..) then all of a sudden the excuse is the development started 7 years ago. Talk about a friggin HUGE contradiction. Some posters attack me for not having seen the ship video which is silly. I am sorry but scripted videos say nothing. I complained about the people swimming and some poster said it was because they all swam for the same ladder. But the point is they actually swam in parallel not closing in on each other. At the end of the day, this has turned into the typical fans here charging in (like Aragon and others). Obviously it is religion for them and not common sense. I am surprised not more people are sceptical after Funcoms way of dealing with AoC. AoC was launched under such a smoke screen, but even they had an updated website and the looks of someone who COULD pull it off. Aventurine is flawed - no previous history, the development team didn't even appear to have been that big from the beginning and their dealins incl. publisher are all inferior in the gaming industry. So is this some brave indie company? Well it is headed by someone without a shred of intelligence when it comes to PR and management of a company and it's reputation. Some claim they get free PR from this and that is partly true - HOWEVER the PR is meaningless if you anger so many people with arrogant postings, some snippets: "game is feature complete", "we could release tomorrow if we wanted", "we don't need to prove anything" etc.. There are more I am just lazy to dig out the many Tasos quotes. No truth is they do bad PR with little care for updating their website and they have no care to show the game to tons of gaming magazines out there who would do free previews for them. There is no one here who can explain why they don't want FREE PR. So if we forget the vocal minority I think most people have realized by now that Tasos saying this game is releasing soon doesn't mean it is true. He has said this for years, people just haven't followed it. People believe what they want to. Come 22nd of January (or some days before) Tasos will use beta as an excuse to postpone: "we strive to do a great game, but our beta testers tell us the game isn't ready due to feature X and / or Y is not polished. We want to release the best game possibly, so we have decided to delay. We hope for your understanding blah blah".. Wanna bet? The combat videos (without external cameras) are very limited and I haven't really seen one long-winded combat from start to finish where you really followed what is going on. There is no shred of proof of this superior twitchy combat system. There is no shred of proof they can deliver hundreds of people in battle doing this kind of advanced combat. How they could possibly make this work when lag is bound to hit in, is beyond me. Even the largest companies test their engines very much, but Darkfall has so far done well with a small or even tiny group of testers. So does all these questions make me a troll or a hater? I am just a realist. Like many here. A lot of people think the same. I am just more vocal. When this game is removed from mmorpg.com where will these fans go next? I bet they rally under Mortal Online - and I fear there are also oddities surrounding that game. Have a nice evening
I can only conclude that no one really can give good explanations to the burning questions. The many, many features are either unsupported by videos or have only been shown scripted. Tasos is too good for getting free PR for his game so he don't need the big gaming sites. And this game alledgedly is the next big thing after sliced bread without a shred of proof. Where are the large underworld and the sea kingdom? Where is the deep, deep crafting? How can they claim 10s of thousands of players pr. server when they didn't test it? The odd thing here is that there are no instances even for dungeons, but with 100-200 testers they can ascertain that it works? And what happens if 5000 people all at once join the same battle? In Eve the servers would crash and boot. Darkfall is full of promises. The list of features is not coherent but just one long wet dream list of things, however not cohesive.
I don't believe in the Jan. 22nd release date and no one here can defend that date either. So all personal attacks brushed off we have to conclude no one could give any explanations. Aventurine with a 20 man crew can code all these game features in the largest mmo world ever, incl. 500 powers and spell effect and real time combat and god knows how much 3d modelling. Funcom failed. Mythic is failing. But Darkfall with 10% of the people pulled it off.

A thread of 27 pages and on every page you get reasonable explanation and descriptions of the game and the features and still you claim you havent seen them? You have beyond any reasonable doubt been proven wrong hundred of times in this thread and still continue to claim you're right? Just amazing. Aragon - Member of B@D guild |

beta.thenoobcomic.com/df_preview/part4.html This is a link to previews from one of the Beta testers....this is part 4. Feel free to read parts 1-3. At this point, without having played the game...what other information do you want to possibly convince you that this game is real, that it is unique, and that it appears on its way to offereing many of the features it said it would? Open your eyes man. The game exists. It's got new and unbelieveable features never seen in an MMO before. Does it have ALL of the features on that list?? Probably not. Does it have MOST? It seems to....so why continue to hate on it? |

The questions are burning and pressing on. And nothing in that preview proves Aventurine can pull it off. Nothing.
I shall be the first to come here and creep and crawl and apologize if I am wrong, but I am sorry to tell you, I am not wrong here. All the signs are there. Too bad no one can respond seriously to these issues. This 20 man team Tasos has must be some of Europes best programmers. And most flexible when they have been coding and modelling this HUGE game all by themselves.
What people don't get is that I want a game including many of Darkfall's features as much as the next man. But how can anyone disregard the blatant arrogance of Tasos and the lack of logic in his approach to promoting his game. By alienating his player base before even selling the game? Something is wrong in this picture. Sorry. I too wish for a sandbox mmo with consequences and depth.

I agree he is arrogant. Could just be a personality flaw, but it might be an attempt to cover up. Wouldn't it be great though? If a small team could pull it off? I know, there isn't any substantial proof.. and I agree the release date may get pushed back. You're right in calling it a dreamer's hope. I know its hard to hope after being lied to by other companies, but at least the dreamers believe in something. Sure people like AmazingAvery bring shame to their name by defending lies and deception, but at least they belive in something; whereas you and I remain in a skeptics world with no inspiration. Don't you envy them? |

As things are here though, there simply is no solution to this quarrel. When people take out some hardly maintained list of features and hold it against the game even before it even reached the light of day, the game simply WILL fail for them, This attitude leads to self fulfilling prohecies, and quite frankly, that's all people like the OP really want. it's not like they want the game to fail, - they want to be disappoited and proven right at the same time, making exactly that sure by preparing checklists well ahead of time they know of that they can not be met in any realistic thinking. If you proove a game on release against one of those lists, there simply WILL be a delta, some missing features (initially or even longterm), and that's is common knowledge for everybody following especially MMOs for any langth of time. So again, those arguing in extremes will not move the slightest bit in the discussion, as well as they won't when the game releases. There might be some extreme spectics that actually manage the move to playing and having fur if the game is launching successful as well as there will surely be quite some diehard fans that will fall from one flank to the exact opposite, totally disappointed in their lala-land expectations. It happend before and it'll happen again.

On top of everything they haven't even announced an open beta and launch is five weeks away. Neither has they mass tested their product. A few hundred testers - 100-200? Compare that to WAR and other games. They simply haven't tested this full game and all its so-called magnificent features. When I read this community and its fans I really understand why people can get away with pyramid schemes. Some people will believe everything..

They have tested all the quests and levels? Yea... they even tested the servers could handle the 10s of thousands of people.
You have no clue. There is no proof they fully tested this game. In fact no one knows what the REAL features of this mmo is - because there is NO updated list on their website. Even fans here admits that the website is filled with misleading information. And you also have no clue about a 3 week public beta. Who here really believes there will be a public beta from JAN 1st???

That could mean with GNi as there hosting partner there they have a solution for the server side..and with a DDL they could offer a distribution solution and self publish.. So my statement stands. They do not have a publisher for N America. Anyway while while GNi is a good choice for their server infrastructure it really says very little as to the how the game will perform. Hellgate London for example also used GNi and we all know what their server stability/performance was like. Not that it matters much to me, after taking a look at the game I have concluded that even if it eventually does release in US and even it it does not turn out to be a bug / lag fest I don't care for the overall design anyway so I am out of here. I played pre trammel UO and I do not care for going through that gank fest again and I was one of the better gankers

Fanboy..? I'm not a fanboy, I just voiced my opinion of an inane troll whom is clearly a newbie to the MMORPG community. His overly negative comments stems from his lack of knowing how things are done. He clearly states in many of his post that "he doesn't know" how this or that can happen or how Aventurine can do this or that. Then he proceeds to base his debate and arguments off this lack of knowledge... ! So, why not call him out? Legitimate question..? Where? All I saw was incessant complaining and questions, that the industry as a whole has answered over the last 11 years. If he doesn't know, then I gave him advice on that too... Ask!
My faith isn't in Aventurine, but in my knowledge of past history.

For starters if you want to have a conversation about DarkFall try their forums I'm sure you'll be welcome there. =D Next, quite a few of your questions can be answered on the website or in videos that show a great deal of what you are looking for i.e. swimming characters, ship combat, sieges, etc..etc.. Even some keep construction. Yay. Also, while they don't show every tiny little feature a game that has been in development for 8 years shows a committed team. Furthermore, as far as I understand it the Greece government provides subsidies to small business and thus I believe Tasos has received funding to help develop this game. I could be wrong there, but I seem to remember reading about it a year ago or so. In addition, while they don't show every tiny little feature they do show quite a few other features. I invite you to actually watch the videos and read the some 280 pages of developer journals. Ultimately, anyone could be lying about anything, however, the videos show some interesting things. |

Funny thread! What do we know: Rookie development team. Beta1: Professional Testers! (however we dont know anything about the testers). Beta 2: Closed Beta. (A few hundred). Videos. Screenshots. Testimony from 3rd parties. Q&A: Is there a game? Yes. Will the game be everything they claim? No. (This has been the case with every MMO). Will the game have a successful launch? Yes. (200,000 at least). Will the game keep players? Unknown. Could the release date be changed? Possible (This also is quite frequent with MMOs). Hate it or Love it; You all are talking about it. |

To all the trolls: I don't give a shit what your gripe is about Darkfall, but stop comparing indie gaming companies to mainstream companies. Indie gaming companies exists SOLEY to avoid these money grubbing mainstream gaming development publishers. The point is, indie gaming companies (whether an MMO or not) to do to avoid any limitations on development, as many, many game publishers (EA anyone?) have done to other game companies. |
