You mentioned this in another post somehwere too, with the plan sounding a little more fleshed out. I take it you've spoken of it with your buddies and have begun to act on this?

How do you take down notes and stuff about what is said and what is going on while you play? Log chat? Do you take screenshots?

I never read anyone's Bio.  I also never RP.

But on my Dual Blades/Willpower natural scrapper I went for a sort of swahsbuckler theme with a Rapier and main gauche and wrote a bio that basically has my guy getting pulled through time by the Circle of Thorns to steal his studly body.  Then he escapes and happens upon a girl getting accosted by thugs and naturally steps in as any gentlemen would and that is how he becomes a super hero.

I get a lot of compliments on that bio.  I also occasionally get people asking me to review their bio just out of the blue.  Yet I really don't care about bios.  And there is a reason people call it City of Catgirls too.

CoX is funny that way alot of the RP is character concept rather than "acting".  I think this is kind of cool in that it brings alot more people who would otherwise not RP into an RP like state.

Also it fits with the comic book theme.  The japanese Anime's like Naruto and Bleach do alot of their writing based off of character concepts and concept art.

I am the total opposite. I am an absolute bio junky! I love reading people's bio, seeing what's what. Call me nosey but it's fun! Whatever characters run by me or whatever, I'll try and check their bio. I even set 'H' as a hotkey to target next hero simply so I can get them fast enough so I can peek at their bio. I've even done it during a fight! [still won the fight, too!] 

And about 99% of my characters have at least something in their bio about them. But I have noticed the trend of people just listing their other characters in their bio, or what AVs they've beaten. That's cool too, I guess. It's certainly better than nothing. I find it odd that people list theme songs for their rp characters though. I mean, it's not like that music is in the game. And I don't see how such a thing adds anything. But whatever. People are silly, sometimes. A theme song, oh man, who came up with that idea?

as long as we've veered off onto rp'ing and bios and such... the first run for the Paragon Noir Detective Agency is going to be this coming friday, Jan 9 at 6pm central / 7pm eastern.  i might make a post on the coh forums, but since i've posted on ro and now here, i doubt i will.  =)

sorry, it's short for repeat offenders, as in  repeat-offenders.net    which is a coalition of sg/vg on justice, virtue and freedom.  there's a public channel - repeat offenders.  it's just a bunch of people that play to have fun and the only requirements are that you have (or create) toons on at least one of those three servers.

and as for the paragon noir thing... this version of it is open to silver/golden age super heroes, old tyme heroes/detectives and creatures-gone-good, like a werewolf or vampire or whatever that now fights on the side of good for some reason.  so there's not really any AT or powerset requirements, just, a few lines in your bio and  a "look" for your toon and even then, it's pretty open.

My favorite thing about this MMO is it's unique ability to allow any lvl character to play with any other character(Sidkick/Malefactor system).

Frankly its still pretty amazing.  Some people insist that defenders can't solo well, yet my Storm/Sonic defender can kill an Orange con minion or boss as fast as a scrapper.  Or they insist that they are "support".

But RO has been around a while and while they run all kinds of them teams you can only do so many before you run out of ideas.  So I think they have settled into doing whatever they please.

Some of them have already created tanking empath defenders that took the prescense  pool for taunts that killed AVs so for the most part a lot of them are just not all that worried about the composition anymore.

Still people seem to forget that in CoH everyone can be a tank or a healer, just take the right power pool and get the right people in the group.  So if you need a haven from people who are idiots and don't get that idea join RO ;)

i WANT to play defenders more... but i keep thinking "man, i've got those guys locked down, if i were a controller right now..."

edit:  and storm... storm is one of those powersets that is almost like it's own AT... i ended up deleting my storm/dark and went ill/storm instead.   now THAT is the good-aligned mastermind from hell.   so um, where are the PA, phant (and his decoy) and tornado throwing folks, so i know where to put mr. spooky?

People will tell you that Storm/Dark is good damage.  As good as Storm/Sonic.  But they are wrong.  Very wrong.  Dark has AoE's that make up to some degree for its piss poor damage.

Sonic has -res debuff and and its debuffs are stronger than any other AT, including corruptors, therefore /Sonic does more damage in a defenders hands than it does for Corrs or Blasters.  So when you use /Sonic you start to approach Blaster damage once you have applied about 2 or 3 blasts.

So if you play Storm/Dark you wind up with gimp AoE and then you play a Fire/Storm troller and go, um real control + better AOE vs gimp AoE and good sem-control.  Yeah I'll take the troller thank you.

But with Storm/Sonic you play a Fire/Storm troller and think I really like this AoE, but man I my Sonic kills a  red minion in 3 hits.  Plus Sonic has alot of control.  Siren's song is a permanent Sleep that is large enough to hit a full spawn.  And Screech is a great stun.

Blaster debuff is 13%.  Corruptor is 15%.  Defender debuff is 20%.  So with triple stacked -res you have an overall increase of 21% extra damage for the defender vs the blaster.  Which basically turns your defender into a corruptor.  Add in the extra -res from FR and the fact that you make Tornado do literally double the damage and it starts to add up some really nice damage.

Its basically Corruptor level blasting and with tornado and LS stacked on its scrapper level single target damage.

Later on once you get pets Fire/Storm or ill/Storm probably does just as much or more single target damage once you ramp all the various parts up.  But that /Sonic kills a single target quite fast and with someone else on the target its way faster than the controller.  -60% res on a boss or EB is a lot and that is just from /Sonic.  The FR -res is larger too.

My Storm/Sonic can easily put a total of -95% res on a boss or EB or AV (and its the only debuff that doesn't get hugely mitigated on AVs too) whereas that /Storm troller is putting on -30% res.

So the defender is add triple the extra damage.  And does very nice single target as well.  People will tell you Dark has better synergy and the AOE makes it good damage.  Meh whatever.  Howl is more AoE damage in a group simply because it makes the real AoE guys do more damage, and is as good of a cone as Dark has.  And solo killing a minion literally twice as fast is better.

If you want to just plain kick something's ass Storm/Sonic and not mess around with pets and stuff is better than any controller version of Storm.    But IMO Storm/DArk you might as well just play a fire/Storm controller.  Similar levels of -res.  Better stuns (which is darks major synergy).  Better AoE with hotfeet and containment.  And a veritable army with imps.  And anything that a Storm/Dark can hurricane/blast tank is something a controller can disable anyway.  -tohit debuffs are useless against AV.

But /Sonic offers something no controller can offer, which is a literal ton more damage.  Making the Storm/Sonic rather fun because it just axes things and lets others axe things.  Teh reason to play Storm/dark is basically to have strong storm stuff and play like a controller.    Well the storm stuff is strong enough on a troller anyway.  Storm/Sonic still lets you play like a semi-troller and gives somethign no but a defender can give, maximum damage.  And that kind of ddamage is a different play style than lock down.

welp, i'm always up for a new toon and am looking for one or two toons to throw into the new paragon noir... you've done a good job of selling me on making a storm/sonic.   =)

That's me. All my 'main' alts have some sort of backstory to them, but I still try to make it fit my irl personality so I don't have to really RP too much. Usually, when I'm OOC, it's about irl stuff or meta-game stuff.

i also love this game and i hope it will thrive in the later future! everything seems attrative to me at first! after perfacting, i do think it will invite more people to join this game!

Going back to the original topic anyway... I totally agree with the OP and I do the exact same thing. It's such an easy game to come back to, it's so easy to just play for 30 minutes then take a break. It's not a huge problem if you have to leave half way through a mission.

However as others have said, it DOES get repetitive, which is usually why I quit. But it's fun enough to come back to every few months or so :-)

It's one of the few TRUE casual MMOs, perhaps even the only casual MMO.

what?  Maybe you shouldn't scold people without reason. CoX is my first and only MMO. Even though I've been playing for almost 4 years, I'm still picking up MMORPG lingo. I just thought it was a term I wasn't familiar with yet.

And I still have no clue what irisjingjing meant. after 'perfecting'? If that's the word, I still don't understand what s/he means by it.
