Looking at the home page "Most Popular" list, this game over 6 months has creeped up and passed all the other games, including Aion (which I am waiting for) so I had to pop in and see what all the hubbub is about.

Now I see Darkfall has over 7,300 hits today ALONE. After reading through a few postings, I see a gigantic traffic accident about to occur.

Someone is driving a Yugo and someone is driving a semi, although its unclear to me at this point whether its the fanbois or the trolls driving the semi.

So far, and based on an actual release date given by Darkfall despite trolls saying otherwise, it appears that the trolls are driving that Yugo. But we won't really know until January it seems. I see a LOT of backtracking posts made by a few individuals altering statements they made previously (yep, I was bored so I looked up what they posted). I saw a lot of fence sitters who were on the troll side beating Darkfall down, but laid JUST ENOUGH nice things to say that they later can claim they weren't really trolling, but wanted the game to make it lol.

Excuse me while I go make some popcorn. I think my snack will be ready by Jan 22.

Is this the first game some of you have followed in development? It's very normal for launch dates to be pushed back. That said, I am skeptical about many things regarding this game. I'll believe it if and when it happens. My point is that all of these tired issues people keep beating off on daily are nothing new to the gaming world.  Games get pushed back. Launch dates are announced. Launch dates change. It has happened dozens of times in dozens of companies. Welcome to MMO development. I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm simply saying it is nothing earth shattering. People are analyzing the new date and tweaking out on every word out of someone's mouth. I guess people are just bored. I will definitely check out Darkfall if and when it is released, whether that is in January or in June 2010.

If you put half the effort into your real lives as you do analyzing forums, links, and all kinds of other boring minutiae you might actually get somewhere.

and now its not. now its Jaunary 22nd...

and the beta date dosent exsist now. so.. yea Dates and Aventurine... hard to beleive... but.. you know with the track record....

 

i know i kow Tasos keeps saying its ready...

but if its so ready... why keep breaking dates?

Just a bit of insight from a software industry veteran - anytning posted in a forum, or mentioned in a demo-day, is defnitely NOT considered a "hard date" by the media nor others in the press/industry.  When a company is truly ready to set a date which they are confident in, they issue a press release on the newswire. 

To my knowledge, this announcement is the first "official" release statement that should be considered valid.  Of course that's not a guarantee that the software will be available on that date (I can't count the number of times I've seen even huge corporations like Microsoft miss their "official" dates)... but at least you can now quote them on something "official" if you care to.

A troll is caught on attempt to stretch definition so he don't appear as an instance of it. But finally show he is just a troll and fits perfectly in it ;)

I always claimed that applying the term  vapor  on DF , was never  used  here as point of discussion but as opportunity to throw  "excessive negative opinion"  towards the fans and to throw "game attacks" towards  DarkFall..

Oh I am still here, just do not care to debate the meaning of vaporware. It is kinda pointless.

On a side note though Originalegg, since it is my opinion that you are the most annoying of all the DF fanbois.

What I said about NOT dropping in here to say told you so on the 23rd. I think I will retract that now, so that I can come leave you personally a little sticky note that reads "sucker".

if the game is ready to launch now why would they delay in jan  with a real reelase date mayb the jan 22 date if for Av to get caught up who knows but im 100% sure it will launch by then

Well Blodpls some people get it... while others just do not. I don't really get upset about this crap. Which is why I don't argue about it. They know what was implied by my post. If they wanna stretch it out over 6 pages then whatever. I just don't wanna be a part of the 6 pages of useless crap.

Nothing is sure until the game is released.

Having said that, Funcom and Mythic postponed their expansive POS 2-3 times each and by several months........not days.

I rest my case, lock the thread.

A fact I agree with, see my post I've requoted above.

Are we sure though that when we refer to a game as 'vaporware', this could not describe a game that is released albeit in a radically different form to the one which was described before release? I.e. if Darkfall does get released but is missing many many key features, couldn't we therefore say that the true Darkfall was never released, just a bastardized Darkfall 'Lite'? And Darkfall itself was 'vaporware'?

This is kind of my point but I'm not sure I've explained it clearly enough.

Yep people calling this a delay are just looking for an angle to say "see i was right about DF"

A delay of less than a month is nothing compared to other companies announcing a specific release date and bumping it back months multiple times.

Remember this is the first time DF has had a specific date.  Delaying beta goals is different.

All i can say is that thank god they are delaying and being smart about this and not rushing it.  People knock Aventurine but they should be praising them for handling their development properly.  Comparing them to Aoc, WAR, Vanguard and saying "why dont they do it like the pros" is so so funny.  Cause those guys developed good games...
