Makes me wonder if his company and his game is also a creation of a regular forum user, as in - it is all in his mind, as in - it is all made up, as in - it is vaporware. I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time. |

Numerous people that are not a respectable website or magazine that wrote a review/preview is not a number at all. I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time. |

Sorry, not a reason.
But hey, I'm patient. I'm sure we'll get something this month. be it an announcement or even release. I'll be happy to see where it goes. Honestly, do you really think they stayed focused for seven years on just that aspect of the games developement? It's common knowlodge they developed their own inhouse game engine to run the game on. That alone adds 3 to 4 years to a develpement cycle.

I'm going to play it, whenever it comes out. Been watching all these comments, and it's classic groupthink haterade. No matter what this guy tasos says or does, some of you will put a negative spin/find fault with it. You have to know the game exists, FFS..no idea if it will be good, but to continually repeat BS and slam the guy..wow.. |

To those who say they won't play because Tasos came off as rude or because they feel they've been lied to: Grow up. None of this pre-release nonsense is going to matter if/when the game comes out. If it's good, people will play it. If all your friends start playing, I'd like to see you stick to your promise to boycott it because the devs "offended" you. To those who say DF should allow big media in to test the game for free publicity: Uh, why? It seems to me that not doing this is getting them quite a bit of publicity. At least, that's what all your purposeless raving seems to indicate. Personally, I don't think anyone is in a position to criticize Aventurine's PR stance. They spent approximately nothing, and via vague announcements and morsel-by-morsel information releases, they've accumulated an enormous community with plenty of word-of-mouth power. Publicizing their game at this point would probably, at best, have next to no effect. At worst, it could sabotage the popularity of their game (if, say, it's not as polished inside as we've been led to believe). Before a game is released, all the devs are responsible for is ensuring people are talking about their game. Look at how popular this thread is and tell me they've failed. |

lol at people that say they wont play the game because they feel Tasos wasn't nice. That's not the way it works. Who here doesn't shop at walmart cuz theyre assholes and make ppl of third world countries work for pennies ? A small minority ! And the same can be said for most big companies out there, even though we know theyre assholes, we buy it because we like the product. There are 2 ways of selling your crap. Putting all your energy in advertisement, selling preorders and stuff like that, even though your product sucks. (DnL anyone ?) Or putting your energy in making a good product and relying on word to mouth as your publicity. Darkfall doesn't sell preorders, and they have been clear that they will use a "Try before you buy" formula, something very few games dare to do these days. When Darkfall releases, (WHEN, since there is now an official date) and if it scores a 8.5 or more /10, will you still be playing it even though you think he was a prick ? Yes. And if not, well youll still be the one missing out and noone will care.

Nope. He’s a special case. Apparently you didn’t follow the fiasco |

Gosh. What a lot of replies. I certainly didn't bother to read any of the 300++ replies that preceded mine. To anyone who actually bothers reading this post, I have three words: BEWARE, BUT HOPE. I have followed Darkfall's development for a long time. In that time I've seen Aventurine make a lot of outrageous claims: the game has been stable and feature complete for over a year; the game has more content than WoW; naval combat is better than Pirates of the Burning Seas; mounted combat is similar to Mount & Blade; the AI is so good the game debugs itself, etc. The game promises so much, but how can it deliver? Do the developers seriously believe that a short, closed beta is all that is needed to prepare the game for prime time? Unless you wish to lose some cash, fast, don't buy this game right off. Wait for the reviews. Wait for a lot of reviews. If the game gets good reviews, I'll be the first person to push you out of line so I can buy a copy. But until then, I'll just shake my head at the fools that rush out to buy this game.
PS there was an error in the news article. Darkfall development started in 2001, not 2003. Indeed, the first initial release date was 2003. |

What's funny is people keep saying that Tasos' attitude does not matter once the game is released. This couldn't be further from the truth. Think about it. Game is released. It's horrible. (Think DnL horrible) people start leaving in droves and everyone posts that the game needs major fixes. It's not fun, there's major issues with the gameplay, etc. And how does Tasos respond? "Shut up trolls, our game is the best ever!" 6 months later Darkfall closes it's doors and we continue to get the watered down linear games that we've been getting for years. Do you understand my point? I WANT Darkfall to succeed. I'm not even sure if I'll be playing it, but I WANT it to do better than any other game out there. Do you know why? So we can get some freaking real MMO games back into this genre! Tasos' holier than thou attitude is not conductive to changing a failing product based on legitimate criticism. This is what worries me. "There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer." |

Ill take the word of a developer over forum randos anyday. And yes this thread was amazingly long and has been kind of forgotten with the release date being announced today. ~~ Darkfall Recap of everything that has happened the last 3 months: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/213296 "The monsters are tough. I was looking for a challenge, but these things are just too damn smart." -DF Beta Tester "If people were dismissing it, then they wouldn't be talking about it. The well-meaning gamers root for efforts that try to raise the bar. So who's left? It's so easy being a skeptic." -Tasos |

It might not be the same game, but Darkfall was been in the public eye since 2001 and that's where most people start their clocks. But semantic games are nothing new unfortunately, esp. because the community lets developers play them instead of calling to the facts. And if you don't trust a forum rando how about some proof. http://rpgvaultarchive.ign.com/features/interviews/darkfall.shtml Good to hear about the release date, it's like the ending to an epic tale is about to come to a conclusion -one way or another. |

Too damn right. I am so sick to death of the current WoW/EQ/WAR MMO-formula. Yes yes, each one is a little bit different but the guts of each one is the same. |
