I don't think the graphics are the "best" out there. But they are certantly playable to me. My biggest concern with what we have seen so far, visual wise, is the really bad animations. People keep saying "it's just the female running animations" but I've watched the ADW video and I think all of the animations look horrible. It's like the top half of the body is stuck to the bottom half with a dow rod. There is no connection between upper body movement and lower body movement. Very immersion breaking for me. "There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer." |

Personnally, if a game is FREE, I can forgive much. But if I am expected to forkout cold cash each month, my expectations rise to a much higher level. Given that, I have viewed the videos, and they were dissapointing graphically,....until I went back on U-Tube and wached the OAC promo videos, and saw that they were also of very low quality compared to what I get at home on my 8800GT videocard. That alone gives me hope. Yes you may all say that graphics dont matter, but they do...or we would all still be playing on our SEGA's. |

Take a moment to take in how wrong you are. AOC engine is, in this genre, bleeding edge because of the technology it uses for graphic rendering, the game layer is another thing entirely. The amount of players is not a limitation of age, but a limitation of the use of the new technologies, and end user machines. The Darkfall engine is not even a close match at all, because the techniques they are using ARE over 10 years old. They do this for a reason. This also has zero to do with art direction, and competency in creation of assets. That, AOC also wins again.

i'm not wrong. AoC's engine is severely limited -- just look at the terrible performance given 48+ characters on-screen, and look at the requirement for an extreme amount of instancing.
good quality art assets != good quality engine.
AoC engine sucks. You still do not know what you are talking about. |

Please read what I said. Can’t have a discussion with someone that can not read, and also has no clue.
You are comparing apples to oranges, and are just plain wrong. AOC rendering engine is far superior to that of darkfalls, this is just based on technology used, I have not commented on single time about its application. The two are incomparable in terms of rendering quality and efficiency and modern techniques. I’m not even going to touch on the amateur hour and technical execution of darkfalls assets. Becouse thats a diffrent topic all together.

No graphics is going to put me down on trying this game out. UO has way outdated graphics, but still fun to play. If all you want is graphics you need to find a different game. I mean, of course graphics is a big part of gaming, but the gameplay is what really matters. |

Isn't this game in Beta? Do all the textures look like or are these issues with the LoD manager? AoC had a similar issue with the LoD not functioing properly - not sure if it's been fixed. Hell, the xbox 360 does this in a lot of games, one being Mass Effect. |

Originally posted by Rosenthorn Wanted to point out that. If I had my sega and I could find someone who sold Shadowrun. I would be playing it right now. I loved that game. Nintindo's version was prety good but.... Wish they would make a shadowrun mmorpg. A real rpg modled after that sega game with a heavy dose of UO and swg. Isometric view too. All the best rpgs were isometric. (and no i didnt like morowind) And im sure i didnt spell isotometreicccaaa right but pretty much ole school rpgs. |

Graphics for DF are good, not great but perfectly fine. Look at what WoW did with crappy graphics.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying WoW is a good or bad game or anything of that sort, just making a connection between the fact that it has crappy graphics and is still booming. |

AoC engine sucks. You still do not know what you are talking about wow, that reply is totally convincing.
facts: 1) AoC's engine dates back to at least 2000 2) AoC's engine cannot draw more than 100 characters on-screen on any setting of AoC at more than 10FPS 3) AoC's engine limitations forced the designers to instance the crap out of the game
once more: AoC's graphics engine sucks.
AoC sucks, full-stop. It's a case study in how too much emphasis on graphics and hype while ignoring gameplay and bugginess killed a game.
Apparently Funcom have laid off 70% of their original AoC support staff now. LOL.

Wow, the graphics are looking pretty good. Quality enough to be considered eye candy, but not too over the edge so that the rest of us with under quality machines can still play. Hopefully this game lives up to the hype, and is fun to play. If not, meh. There are other good looking MMOs coming out. Namely SW: TOR. |

They look ok, better than AC did back in the day.
Besides, it's all about the gameplay! |
