After 20 continuous hours in front of the computer screen playing WoW, a 15 year old Swede went into convulsions and collapsed from sleep deprivation and hunger. The boy is expected to make a full recovery and his father has vowed to limit the amount of time he can play from now on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tK6YIAX1jg |

I agree, I used to push 60+ hrs as a youth. Pizza and caffeine is all you needed.

Let them fall...WOW and subscribers are like a Hydra and its heads...for every 1cut off...10 others spring up to take it's place. All part of the business strategy.....of course I'm kidding. Just funny the father will only limit the amount of gametime....if my kid played a game to such a degree that it risked his health...he would not be able to play that game..period..at least not in my house.. Of course..I don't have kids so...that's not saying much. |

Yeah, perhaps he told his Dad it was only 20 hours, when it was actually longer. Or he might have some kind of ailment like diabetes or something that would make eating food necessary to prevent collapsing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tK6YIAX1jg |

Wow, what is wrong with you people? 20 continuous hours of gaming is unhealthy and absurd. If you do this regularly you seriously need to go out and get a life before you end up like that guy in Korea who died of organ failure. |

Some people are more susceptible to such things. I get headaches from FPS games with good graphics much faster than anyone I've met. Your average person could handle gaming for over 20 hours with no sleep or food, although I imagine that it wouldn't be easy. These kids did get at least some sleep and ate some food. Of course, gaming for 20 hours and not bothering to eat or sleep is silly even if you don't almost drop dead.

I didn't sleep for three days once. I was working my way through college, and between work and school I didn't have time to sleep. I started to hallucinate which at the time was a bit scary but in retrospect was kinda cool.
One hallucination was a black horse riding out into the middle of the street. Then I blinked and it was gone. The other thing I saw was a man staring at me from across the street wearing a full body yellow raincoat with the hood pulled over his head. I blinked and it actually turned out to be a yellow pole about waist high.
Later when I finally made it home and was able to sleep, I was dizzy and nauseas. I jerked upright atleast three or four times wretching, but luckily I didn't vomit. When I fell asleep it felt like being smothered to death. I awoke maybe 18 hours later with what felt like a hang over...head ache, nausea, malaise.
Not something I would ever want to repeat. |
