Why not only have the skills decrease over in-game time not off line time?

Having skills decrease only during that character's in-game time would work, though I'm not sure I want that level of "realism" in my gaming experience. I'd be interested in trying it though.

"if you dont play for few weeks big deal you get the 2/4%'s back 50% faster" A few weeks and you lose that little? Redundant. That does't increased the difficulty on any level, it just adds one more annoyance to the players. I'm not a big fan of counterplasts. Realism to the negative extent makes the game unfun, in my opinion. Remember Dark Stone? I took it back for a refund within the first 10 miutes of gameplay when I found out you had to keep food on hand to satisfy a perpetual decreasing hunger meter. What a bore. |

An easy way to solve it is... That theres an option to activate "Vacation Mode" which means he wouldn't be able to login for a time and his % won't go down. Also bans, closed servers, etc? Just activate that once they shall go down or when he gets banned stop the time counting for his % to go down just like a vacation mode, not really that hard. |

It just doesn't seem worth it to me. I believe SWG uses a system in which you only get a limited number of resources to allocate toward skill progression. This means that to learn a new skill, you may well have to sacrifice points from a more developed one. This effectively simulates the reduced dedication to an ability, but leaves the control in the hands of the player, which I much prefer. |

Scripture is only as ambiguous as our ignorance of it allows it to be. |
I prefer the oldschool exp/lvl system where you get some skills depending on what class you are or you get every skill for each class (the costs in pts for skills differs for each class). You should also get attributes and earn experience from monsters based on their level and yours so you don't get easy powerleveling from a level 1 attacking and killing a level 20 if at all possible. Instead a level 1 should get greater exp for killing a level 1 or possibly 3 at max but then the exp starts dropping off if they try to fight something 3 levels higher.
p.s. If you're going to make it so you're skills go down over time when not training in them, you should also find some practical way to make them go back up faster when training them. This would be true to life and would allow those who had previously trained in a certain skill to "remember" it and find their old talent more quickly. After all, we retain memories and different skills we pick up as we go through life. Many may be forgotten but all the better remembered when we "pick up the old threads" again. |

The enemy is so dumb! They believe that WE are the enemy! - A famous orc commander. |
I am AGAINST any form of degradation over time unless the player willingly choose it for a benefit that is not a MUST but only an EDGE to acquire stuff faster at the expense of degradation...
Every thing in RL decay, including the player...we play for many reasons, but certainly not to decay again!
Obstacles can be nice, maybe even a form of decay althought, I will honestly admit, I just vomitt over the very idea of decay! - "Coercing? No no, I assure you, they are willing to bring my bags and pay public transportation just to help me, it is true!'' |

Dont meddle in the the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and tase good w/ ketchup. |
Vacation mode is a very good idea... A simalar game im playing is eearth 2025.You can go on vacation mode where nobody can attack you.. But you cant attack them either. Thus meaning you would have to enter a certain code to disable vacation mode...

I dont agree with stat degredation because it just adds another thing to the game that is negative. I think that when you start out you should have a certain class, and thus only have certain abilities, which you will have to use all the time anyway so they wont degrade. if you are going to lose stats then that means each character is going to be able to learn many skills, which i dont like in a game because it allows people to do everything. if you are going for realism then you can let people do so much in the first place, after all there is only so much one person can really do. Also i hate the way SWG makes you give up hard earned ranks in order to get more. that just makes it feel like a waste of time earning them in the first place. if you want to make the game harder then make the levels harder to get, not easier to lose.
