I read recently that Aion have imposed some limit on playtime to a maximum of 300 hours in a month. (This works out approx. at 10 hours/day.) What are your thoughts on this being say applied to other mmos? Would it stop you playing it or do you think it could be a useful addition to curb excessive playing? I personally think that number could very easily be brought down to 250 and still allow 99% of people to play as much as they liked. |

I am not sure how much this would really help with gold farming or botting. If it does not help with those issues, I see no reason for it. |

I am fairly certain there is a same exact thread in the Aion Forum. |

Let the parents impose the limits, this should not be the work of the game company. And I would be pretty pissed off as an adult if my new MMO doesn't let me play as much as I wants. This is just a very stupid idea and I bet you a dollar that there will be many angry threads on Aions forum about it. |

You are correct and I'm discussing it here in the general forum applying the idea to other mmos as a practise. |

No is the simple answer. As i understand it this is aimed at the asian markets and frankly has no place in the western world(and shouldnt really have any place in the eastern world either to be honest), there will be a different pricing stratergy for western gamers. |

Could you please elaborate a bit on this. Where is this info from and how is the limit imposed? |
|
Well it's purpose is to curb excessive playing. Though there is also the idea that gold-farmer/botters might not be able to play 24/7. I think there is a possibility they could just change accounts however.. |

http://news.mmosite.com/content/2008-11-20/20081120005918847,1.shtml This is just an Aion idea currently but for a 1 month card you can buy up to a max of 300 hours playtime. (I don't know if you can get around this via the addition of 3 hour/30 hour cards) |

I would like to add that this is only for the korean version of Aion because they have laws that state how long they can play mmos.

suppose that answers my question, but am I to assume you play over 300 hours a month? By the way I should maybe say that maybe this doesn't 'impose' that limit just for the regular subscription that is the max number of hours. |

It should be an option to choose: create a server with such a limit, even less than 300h/month. I would be very eager to play on such a server as I can hope for the community there to consist most of casual playing working adults which I am too, and not unemployed nerds and kids with unlimited playtime. But making it mandatory is not a good idea. Let people choose. |

This reminds me of Directway's Fair Use Policy with their internet service. Before I had cable, I had them. It sucked. You purchased "unlimited" internet access, but if you use too much in too short of a time span, they'd cut you off and slowly (over 12 hours) give you access again until you were at full speed. The day cable became available in my area, I told Direcway to shove their policy. I'd do the same here with Aion when a better game came along. It doesn't matter whether or not I'd go over 10 hours a day. It's the principle of the matter. I'm 37 years old and capable of making my own decisions. |

I don't even work 300 hours a month (I put in about 50 - 55 hours a week), I couldn't even imagine the sort of commitment one would need to have to play a video game for 300 hours a month. I would think you would so sick of playing at that point that the choice of playing or throwing yourself out a window would be a hard call. You're not even "playing" a game at that point, you have an issue if you clock anything even close to that IMHO.

I think it's a great idea, I always wanted this limitation in MMOs to avoid shared accounts and overuse. |
