The MMORPG.COM message board are full of buzz about Darkfall. Over the past several days, I've seen several posters mention DF on non-DF boards. This is exciting news for Adventurine... but if by the end of the year Adventurine fails to prove they have a product, will the game lose all credibility? Or do you think people will continue to plug Darkfall as "the next big thing" ? |

Whether or not it loses credibility, I'm not sure. All I know is, the game has been in development for so long, and people have hyped it up so much in their own minds that I doubt it can live up to their standards of what they think it will be like. I can only imagine at the moment all of the hate threads here after the supposed release occurs. |

Agreed with Gajari. I have a feeling that when the game is out, it will suck not because of the developer/management but because people here hyped it waaay too much. Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today. |

First off, I wanted to point out the name of the company is Aventurine (no 'd'). As for your questions, credibility loss will happen on some level since Tasos has said officially in a couple different posts that the game will release before the end of the year. After all, the games development history (delaying beta fromm 2005 to 2008, 7+ years of development, infrequent and limited details released, etc.) has been shaky for this small start-up company. However, if the delay is minimal and explained in detail, people should continue to be hyped for this game since it offers different game mechanics then the typical themepark MMO. |

With WAR and WotLK in their prime is it really the time to release an experimental MMO? If they were to release it now (i know they said they would) i think it woudl be a guaranteed failure. I know that you cant wait for all the competition to disapate, but these two games are juggernaughts in the market, and if you try and take them down while they are new and exciting, you are doomed for failure. I personally have wanted to play this game for a few years, but if it were to come out tommorow I would probably save my money considering how much fun each of these two games is, maybe if you roll around in 3 months and i'm bored, you'll stand a better shot. |

It might lose some some credability with the very insignificant percentage of gamers that are affirmed darkfall haters and other people that spend too much time caring about such things. I think most people realise that delays happen and won't be too fazed by it. It's not going to have any impact on eventual sales of the game. |

People have been following this game literally for years. Whether they deliver this year or early next, I do not see the die-hard fans losing hope. I think the only time people will totally give up on the dream that is Darkfall is when it is cancelled or whatnot. That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming! |

I have read some of the Dev Journals like this one http://www.warcry.com/articles/view/devjournals/darkfalljournals/2868-Darkfall-Dev-Journal-23-Tasos-Answers-29-Fan-Questions Tasos Flambouras: I'm not going to directly answer this question because we intend to show you at some point how the construction system works. Describing it here is not descriptive enough. We've said before that "building anywhere" is relative. In Darkfall you can't build in any location you want, but this provides with unique clan cities built in awesome locations. So your clan city can be built on top of a glacier, have a waterfall hiding its entrance, be built on several levels on the side and in caverns inside a mountain, have secret underwater entrances, on a remote island...that kind of thing. Seem to have somehow been changed to "you can build anything anywhere!" in the minds of some Fanbois? (That is certainly not how I read it?)
I can't help but think the 'community' is setting this game up for failure? I tried playing Real Life but the graphics sucked, the community was annoying too. |

You're putting words in our mouths now. We have never said that you can build anywhere, at least not after that interview/update. |

A more significant impact on sales would be if they ended up not having a real OPEN Beta or some kind of Free Trial before the game launches. From the very beginning Tasos has been stressing that they want people to try the game out before they have to buy it. If they don't deliver on that... there will be a lot of people that take a pass on the game when it does release. |

It all boils down to .. "How much do I want to play with these people who dismiss anything that isn't relevant to their argument.. " And back to the original question.. If Darkfall doesn't release this year.. I don't think it'll hamper any of the companies credibility. The fanbois will make excuses and the trolls will have their day in the sun.. Darkfall will still be "hoping for open beta this year".. and we'll repeat. I don't think Tasos will deliever on the open beta promise this year, maybe a stress test will be in order, but, even reading from the testing, I don't forsee a release. I would suggest keeping Darkfall totaly underhyped, don't talk about it on other forums. This means that other players don't actually HAVE expectations for the game and so cannot be dissapointed. It also means that if the game is indeed good, it may become a sleeper hit-which in my opinion, is far more satisfying than overhype. It also allows you to use that oh-so-wonderful phrase "TOLD YA SO!" It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay. |

Darkfall NEEDS to be a good game. If not, they won't succeed (folks, since Aventurine isn't owned by a large company like SOE, or EA, it HAS to succeed in order to stay in business). what will end up happening is the next game getting "hyped" although, I don't see any other game getting hyped up this much unless Mortal Online doesn't launch until 2017.. in which case.. we'll have the same BS arguments we have now.. A bunch of Mortal Fanbois laughing at the "trolls".. I bet some of the Fanbois here would be amoung the MO Fanbois.. just seems to be in their nature to make up.. Whatevah. Or it is in our natures to follow games that interest us? Like full loot ffa pvp games... ~~ Darkfall Recap of everything that has happened the last 3 months: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/213296 "The monsters are tough. I was looking for a challenge, but these things are just too damn smart." -DF Beta Tester "If people were dismissing it, then they wouldn't be talking about it. The well-meaning gamers root for efforts that try to raise the bar. So who's left? It's so easy being a skeptic." -Tasos |
