Dude, did you even look at the board before you posted this?

While the game was far from perfect, I'm still disappointed to see this since there are so few sci-fi MMOs to choose from as it is. It sucks, but not much you can do about it. At least there are some other sci-fi MMOs in development right now, although I'm not holding my breath.
EDIT:
Torak, I'm surprised that there aren't MORE duplicate threads, to be honest. I guess was expecting a huge bitchfest, heh. |

Well there is something of a bitchfest going on in a few of the other threads. Did you see the one with all caps? Or the essay that was posting trying to convince people to resubscribe to the game about an hour before the announcement the game was shutting down? I think this is the most activity this forum has had in months. And I guess the last activity it will ever have too. But this thread does actually have a link to a different news item. IGN sure picked up the story quick. Not that I actually read it mind you. Due to a lack of clicky and the resistance of this forum to copy and paste. I wonder if they'll look into selling the game, or if they're just going to shred it and forget it like they did with Auto Assult. Its strange their just making it free for a month, they should give the payed players freedom to pick any game they want to play for free for their account and make it free now. I'tll be interesting to see how many people start playing it when it becomes free. |

I personally believe that this would make a great Free 2 Play game. What do you all think? |

i think if NC soft brought back autoassault and did what SOE does i would pay 25$/mo to play their games (not 30 most of them are old trash). |

Originally posted by Raltar It's funny; those are the exact words I said to my friend a few minutes ago. But I'm not surprised. RG leaving NCsoft made me wonder when this announcement would come, although I wasn't expecting it quite so soon. I don't really care about the crappy compensation being offered to us active-subscribers (not interested in the Aion beta or CoH), but I didn't spend much on the game, so whatever. And if you've come from the WAR or AoC forums, then this is hardly a bitchfest... yet. But, in my case, I was already prepared for this in the respect that I reactivated another MMO subscription, so I'm just moving on. |

I conisdered actually going to give it a try when it becomes free just for the heck of it. But I don't really want to reinstall the game just to play what I already know isn't worth the effort. We now know it will never develop into the game it needed to become, so why wate the time? The thing about making it free to play permanently is that there really isn't such a thing as a free game. Every game out there makes money somehow. If not by subscription fees, then by sales of the software or in-game ads or though (god forbid) a cash shop. TR was designed to make money from subscription fees. Trying to translate it now into something else would just muck it up even more and since NCsoft obvioualy isn't planning on putting any more effort into development, the game will clearly never get any better than it is now, so who would continue to play anyway? Well, just for the heck of it, I plan on reinstalling and playing the day that the servers go down. It'll be a nice addition to my MMO scrapbook of screenshots. |

HA! Yeah, I know what you mean. But while it may not have the sheer volume of AoC or WAR, the anger is clearly there. I've already been assaulted by some guy who thinks I'm a jerk because I responded to more than one thread with slightly similar remarks. I ignored him cause hes clearly not worth the warning I would get for insulting him back but some people are clearly flipping out over this. Hey though, if NCsoft is giving you CoH and three months of time for free you might as well use it. I get that the whole "super hero" angle is not for everyone but the game is pretty polished and a decent overall MMO. It needs better PvP though, I'll concede that. I kinda thought this might be coming when the stores started to pull it from the shelves, but as much as I felt TR was a big load of wasted potential, I didn't really want to see it die /= Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts. EAT ME MMORPG.com! |

I am familiar with how F2P works (it is a business model, not a charity). I do think that if NCSoft were to allow this title to pass to another publisher, so that it could get a fresh start (NCSoft has already given up on the game) it would do well. Re-Designing a game for F2P isnt as hard as you may think, especially for those companies that have actual experience with how these games work. |

NCSOFT is closing that's why all the NCSOFT games are closing too. So no Guild Wars for you soon unless some other company will buy it from NCSOFT. Tabula Rasa was a good game. Thing is that everyone is Playing Lord of the Rings: Mines of Moria now. Garriot did his thing. He created the game, sold it, got his millions and bailed. That's why there are so many sequels. People create crappy games, sell distribution rights and then decide if they gonna bother supporting the game or just leave it on its own as they for the most part did with TR. The game was one of the slowest progressing games after release. I've played it myself and have had some real fun. But the problem is that they didn't do anything to make it better. Fixing bugs for a year without bringing in any real content not gonna give you any income. They did it with Autoassault they did the same with Tabula Rasa. Good bye NCSOFT. I've had some fun with you, but it didn't last long. Maybe you shouldn't make more games, because nobody will be lieve in their success now that you have closed a second game. |

You are aware that NCsoft is a huge company that is super rich and makes a ton of money off of their Asian games like L2 and such, right? I could possibly see them being more careful about putting new games into the North American market after this, but the company as a whole will surely go on in Asia. Plus, do you know how huge the backlash would be if they tried to stop support for Guild Wars? Hundreds of thousands of people would be marching on their HQ with torches and pitchforks. ArenaNet would never let them get away with it anyhow. Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't. Originally posted by eldanloco He did, in fact the game was completely finished and EA canned it because they wanted to "focus the playerbase on Ultima Online". So yeah, you can blame EA for that one. UO2 was looking pretty good too. You can still find all the trailers and such online.
And NCsoft is NOT CLOSING. For one, NCsoft East is doing just fine considering they have only been involved with Lineage and Aion is looking to bring in equally impressive numbers for them. NCsoft West on the other hand which has bombed two titles completely now, yeah, they're in trouble and it's been known for a while, but they are essentially the foothold for NCsoft East to get games localized here quickly, and I highly doubt they will let it just close shop, especially with a new major title on the horizon. Tell EA that they can put SecuROM in the game and I bet they would release it for a free downalod just to get their spyware onto a few more computers. That company is so screwed up its not even funny anymore. Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't.
