They requested this visit over a month ago and we agreed. We'll do the same for any professional gaming media that's interested to come here and get a hands-on experience of the game. We will allow media wider access to the beta soon enough, but for now this can only happen on site.

We have not lifted the NDA, but we have allowed them access just for their review, but not to answer questions after this is out. We will ask you to respect this, and our willingness to share information about the game, even when there's an active NDA. We take the NDA very seriously, for the good of the game. This is still a testing process.

They have taken some screenshots and I'm sure they'll have a lot to say about the game in the days to come:

http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/forum/f29...nshots-212903/"

Wiich means MMORPG.com can do the same as those italian guys, if they would send someone to Athens.

See how Tasos did that? These guys are not exempt from the NDA, they are not allowed to post anything unless given the green light. So there goes the "The Italian mods are unbound by NDA! Everything is opening up!" theory the fanbois were shouting fromt he rooftops only yesterday.

Anyway, nice try but Darkfall has network support. There was the Athens event where they played in front of a live audience (notable because at the end of the 30min demo they LOST network connection and CTD'd). There's the closed beta. Oh, and Aventurine have said that people have connected from all around the world, from the US to Asia.

They just want to keep a personal eye on anyone who's going to write a preview about the game.

Yes, that was great evidence that the game was fit and ready to go live. All the facts point to this game being far from ready to be released.

no it lost connection because of the greece connection

Or someone unplugged the iPod.

Lol.  Actually, Polarization has a lot of impact.  I think he's the most intelligent regular poster here, and makes by far the most informative posts.  He has discovered more information about the game's developers than all the Darkfall fanboys put together.

But anyway, this update I actually am surprised about, I don't think it is bullcrap, I think it really does reflect the state of the game, and it is just like all the Darkfall skeptics have said: they don't have a game that is anywhere near ready to go live, and considering the history of the game's development, they probably never will.  It is obvious from these screenshots and the post that Tasos made that their game world is not "online" in the sense of having a persistent game world with an active community of players in the world testing the game.  They "logged  in" for "a few hours" from the developers office and what we see is an empty game world with apparently few if any other players, and no evidence of a persistent, developing world in the sense of a functioning mmorpg.

The one and only.

Sorry, you are still arguing that Darkfall is not  a HOAX.

Darkfall can not only be a real game, but it can actually release and still be VAporware. So you might want to check your midichlorian count there young Jedi.

Vaporware:

Falls short of expectations

This category refers particularly to products that may not be inherently flawed or defective, but rather fail to fulfill the high expectations of the consumers who have been subjected to aggressive marketing campaigns and constant hype from either the company itself or the media who reported about it in the period leading to release. Delays on such products have been known to inflate to months and even years, creating often unrealistic expectations of the final version once it eventually reaches store shelves.

The biggest example of this is the computer game Daikatana, which was announced in 1997 but did not ship until 2000. Many who had waited felt the gameplay was disappointing. Ultima IX was released to savage reviews in 1999, due to numerous bugs, unbalanced gameplay and high system requirements.

Oh ok then SWG NGE , AoC PotBS , Vanguard, WAR and many more are Vapor too by your definition ..."Falls short of expectation"

AND because no one expects too much of DF ..DF isnt Vapor by that definition ..

Falls short of expectation is not quite so subjective. It doens't mean, I thought Age of Conan was going to be the best game ever, but it wasn't.

Falls short of expectations means the game turns out to be similar to Dark and Light, and unplayable piece of junk.

Everyone. Look on the bottom left corner of the screenshots. There's DF copyright text. What does that mean? Well, it means that these are not really "New Screenshots by Italian Visitors". These are just some pictures given to them by DF devs.

Now I don't know if the italians had a chance to play or not but I do know they didn't take these screenshots.

What are you talking about?  Now there is a magic screenshot that got removed and it is the thing that proves your point?

Uhm, - yes, while there were still uploading, there was a screenshots clearly showing other beta players, including their names. many people saw it before it was taken off again.

Does it prove anything? No, it obviously doesn't. However, why would anybody have to prove anything to you? - I don't think it would change anything anyway, so it's not worth the time invested.
Do you prove anything in regards to your assumption? No, you're clutching at straws just as well.
Coming up with that sort of pseudo-science approach, putting up a thesis is one thing. Claiming it to be correct until others are able to prove the opposite however, not having anything more than your individual interpretation is a tad naive however.

This constant crying for "proof" on the internet (and what tends to be brought up as proof in such cases) in the majority of cases isn't much more than a childish attempt at science methodology, let's just leave it at that.

Yes, and they even took the time to photoshop their names in as character names, and all that within a few minutes. A really impressive example of guerilla marketing, - I'm stunned!

I am going to try my best to steer this thread towards some lighter conversation. For example did anyone else think the pictures of the character select screen was really well done? I was going to play Alfar at first but now I have no idea what race I want to be. Ork and Dwarf races look really well done to me. Also the Mahirim actually look like a beast race. This is very much more polished looking than the bi-pedal wolf race vanguard had that basically was just a human with a wolfs head on it. Any other thoughts on the races? Also I must say I relaly am enjoying the graphics they look really classic and I am sure will help in combating lag when big events happen.

Got what first?  A chance to view the Darkfall offices and a guided tour of the client?  They aren't the first, it happened three or four years ago, and in fact it happened back in 2002 [maybe 2001, can't remember for sure] as well, although the client was very primitive then.

To elucidate - they were in a conference centre, running a beta build of the game on a wireless connection.

I'm playing WAR (despite it sucking hard) while waiting for Darkfall, and it CTD'd twice yesterday. I didn't even lose connection, it just randomly crashed twice. I have an AMD 6000+ X2, 2gb ram and an 8800gt. So apparently WAR isn't ready for release either (actually, I wouldn't argue with you there...).

I suppose 'all the facts' doesn't include the beta testers who've said the game plays pretty stable though, does it?

So they're like... every other MMO developer ever? Seriously, I don't expect your posts to be fair or intelligent Polarization (because they never are), but this is weak even by your low standards.

What developer is going ever to allow somebody to play a beta version of a game then give them free reign to report on whatever they saw? (hint - none)

It's not like Tasos did (or could) force them to write a good review (as you idiotically seem to be implying).

I believe that is LoTR (never played it personally). The Darkfall screenshots are only the most recent screenshots, there are screenies from other games in their archive too.

Those two sentences seem to contradict each other.  As far as the first question, this is the norm for every game I have ever seen.... what would be the point of having a press review of the game if the content of the review was controlled by the developers?  If gamers want to know the word from the devs about their game they will just go to the game's website.

The one and only.

Oh boy, some people are thick.

Not allowing them to speak about certain elements of the game, doesn't mean that they won't allow them to give the game a bad review.

Keeping the NDA =! Telling them what to write.

As for the on site testing, I guess they have their reasons?

Try to think things threw before you lash out emotionally.

According to Tasos this game

Has already been beta tested for months internally by “professional” testers and Bots
Is feature complete
The world is up in its entirety
Its fun to play
Is in public beta
Open beta is scheduled to end by early December.
Has an Official launch date for 2008

And yet the only people who got to “review” this game so far had to travel to Athens to play the game in Aventurines offices for a few hours still bound by an NDA, only a few weeks from open beta starting and finishing and the game launching.

This still looks like the promotional and marketing activity’s of a company that has a game that’s only in very early beta stage, and not what I would expect from a game that is going into open beta or launching this year.
