Originally posted by mrw0lf The local chat and beta forums were filled with people complaining about some quests being hard to figure out. No, they were not hard if you actually read the dialog, but that's beside the point. I found them decent. He is right about the little dots on the map. Once you got close enough to some quest objectives, you would get a dot. However, they were probably only on about 75% due to the nature of the quests. Also, objectives only show up on the mini-map, not the big zone map like they do in WAR and similar titles. There were a couple quests where I wished there were no dots (searching for the little girl in Shroud house in Aldenvault), and a few that I searched some time for objectives w/out dots. I too, probably will not pay to play this game, but it has nothing to do with the game itself. It has to do with the publisher being Acclaim and having a different release and I do not trust Acclaim to keep patches and servers up to date with the dev team in Europe. Edit: sorry, I had already quoted him before I saw your post. |

And don't expect TCoS to be fully bug checked, either. Many testers grew tired of waiting around. One of the reasons I gave up beta testing it was waiting MONTHS between builds. Go to beta forum, "Is it up yet?". "Nope." Continue like this for months with no dates other than "soon hopefully". 2,3,4 months at a time like that, making testers pretty much guess when the next build would be out and expecting us to all stay excited and care. I ended up just going to betas ran by companies that actually wanted testing done on a regular structured schedule, not on a "when it's up in a few months test it". And the graphics and art are not all that. You'll find a great similarity to some of the more recent ftp asian games. That part is just my opinion, though. I wish them well, but I don't have real hopes for this game succeeding to be honest.

It does look quite good, in it's own odd way...This is just from the start are, rolled up a few start chars and tried a litle, seems like there will be a wipe tomorrow so Im not investing to much work in it today, just wanted to try the feeling of the game.

Originally posted by daeandor Yes, but it is equally true that many did not bother to read the conversation with the npc in which directions and many hints are given that do not wind up in the final quest log. In Spellborn you really need to read what is being said by npc's. The story is also an important part of the game (and very good too). |

After reading most of the reviews and tid bits about the net, I haven't seen anything that feel would be game breaking for me. Surprisingly few people actually hating on the game for specific reasons, the Acclaim thing I completely understand, being in the UK, forced grouping with the US seems like bollox but I'm willing to wait and see on this. As it stands I'll be giving it a try, but they've given me a looong time to read all the more detailed EU gameplay reviews before then. ----- |

No NDA, hurray.
In-beta character: Joeous, level 40 ancestral mage. Joeous was one of the higher level characters in the last builds of the beta. He even got his own statue in-game I also had numerous higher level characters (the limit there was 35 i think) in previous builds (20+ and 30+ levels).
The beta: It had it's ups and downs. The main problem was that they "froze" it twice for a long time (months) due to major problems in the game (rubber movement 1rst and atributes overhaul the second time). But since it came back this September things looked brighter than ever. From September till now the game has came a long way (from "Playable" to "Enjoyable"). According to developers the major mechanics of the game were a pain to fix. Once they did that (this summer) then the rest was easy. That's the reasons we saw "jumps" in the development the last few months.
Thinks to look forward in this game: -Unbelievable combat system. By far the best in any MMOrpg I have tried. -Quests with nice background stories. It's like reading a book sometimes. -Self-motivated exploration. If you are not ready to search around the zones don't play this game. -Character appearance variety. You can really be the special one. -A "collector's" crafting system. Huge variety of resources easily available in the game. If you are patient and collect them you will find yourself able to craft nice "specially looking" items. If not.... -PvP based on players skills (in-game skills and user's abilities as a player, both). There is not a real reason to "push" you in PvP (yet), but if you win in PvP in this game it means that you are a good player, with good skill setup. Reason enough for me (for now at least). -Great looking graphics. Special style but very atmospheric. Anybody who has seen (or will see) the "Burning mill" in Slywood will understand what I mean at once.

I've been in beta also, and I was pretty pissed about the lack of updates. But since about September, the game seems to have taken a sstep in the right direction. It definitly is one of those games that feels different. I enjoy the world and the art. But I dont get what you meant by ftp asian games Zorvan. If anything this games graphics resemble Fable with a more realistic/grittier world. I'm definitly going to pick up and play this game, mostly because its different. It's not that shiney OMG purplez game. It's the wait I have to actually think game. |

I already put a review of a sorts in that sticky. I'll rehash briefly here: Things I look forward to: - making my character look unique - not having to worry about collecting purple items (epics) - Good pvp combat that requires player skill - At least they have a minor death penalty - Good art style
Bad - Fedex quests sucks. They just suck. I wish they just increase Fame for mobs and just let me grind when I feel like it. - Linear quest system. In the early levels the quests jsut way too linear. Hopefully they will add a lot more. I think they can fix this if they want |
