[ Faction: Galactic Republic | Server Region: North America (w/ international community) | Alignment: Gray | All play-styles welcome | Roleplay friendly, not required. | Seeking all classes, Jedi and non-Jedi alike. ]

Eternal Vigilance
http://www.evcitadel.com

Greetings, wanderer!

We have been watching you. The eternally vigilant know that you seek an organization to call home – you too feel the yearning to play a role in the coming struggle. I must remain discrete, however, my superiors have authorized me to answer your questions... to an extent.

What is Eternal Vigilance?

I can tell you that we are citizens of the Republic. Our loyalty to the Galactic Republic stands firm. Recent events, however, have caused us to lose faith in the standing government's methods. We believe it is time to step forth and accomplish that which the Republic and its Jedi protectors are too reticent to do. The Sith must be stopped at all costs. If the restrictive Jedi Code will not allow the Jedi to act in a manner that is commensurate to the threat, we shall. Take that to mean what you will, but one patriot to another? We don't believe the dark side exists. It is a figment of a fearful imagination, invented for simpletons that cannot distinguish inherently bad intentions. One must utilize all methods at his disposal. It is our wish to protect the lives of the men and women of the Republic, and we care little for the myths that so distract the very group that this Republic depended upon for its protection.

OOC: Eternal Vigilance is a Republic guild with a predominantly 'gray' alignment. We possess strong opinions about the Jedi Order's failure to act, and our theme reflects this. We will do “everything" necessary to protect the Republic; this includes playing in the dark when the situation demands it. Despite appearances, we do not label ourselves a roleplaying guild. We simply believe that it increases immersion; you do not need to be a roleplayer to want to belong to a guild that seeks to blend into the game! In reality, we cater to all play-styles – casual to hardcore, PvE to PvP, crafters, roleplayers and so forth. The guild aims to be well-rounded and competitive in all arenas, supportive of all of its members and their various pursuits. We think versatility increases the fun factor.

Why have you sought me out?

Because, my friend, your head is not muddled with notions of appeasement like the dawdling politicians on Coruscant, nor obstinate righteousness like the Jedi Order. If a thief held your neighbor at knifepoint, would you hesitate to strike him down? A treacherous Empire holds a blade to the Republic's throat! – will you act? Of course you will. We seek to renew the front lines with strategically minded individuals such as you. The very fate of the galaxy depends upon every man's decision to play his cards wisely. We offer you an avenue to take the fight to the Sith alongside men and women who share your belief that the Republic is worth saving.

OOC: At the core, a guild is a collection of like-minded players who share a common belief in the same basic values. This is often the first test that so many guilds fail – you cannot progress unless you've a plan to perpetuate these values, to attract members that place equal importance in them. For years, we have operated under this belief – and for years, we have reaped the benefits. So it is no wonder that when aspiring recruits ask us what we seek in new members, we shout it from the rooftops: MATURITY! Let there be no mistaking it. Maturity is the foundation by which we judge all applicants.

We seek others that wish to help us carry the torch of a gaming community that has built its reputation on the values of respect, maturity, and teamwork. We are a group of people that know how to create a fun environment for ourselves and the people around us, and who did something about it.

I'm in – where do I sign?

Easy there! In due time you shall proudly consider yourself among the eternally vigilant. You must prove yourself first.

OOC: If we've piqued your interest, we welcome you to stop by and spend some time with our community. I think you'll be impressed by the level of activity on our forums, and the degree to which we've organized ourselves. Our charter is the product of many restless nights spent debating the finer points of guild mechanics. We think it's something to be proud of.

Our application process is designed to identify individuals that don't share our ideals. If you don't pass it, it simply means we don't think you're destined to walk down the same path we have chosen. As mentioned before, we think it's vital to maintaining cohesion that we only invite like-minded players. Click on the 'Apply' link on our website for a description of the process to petition for membership, and give it your best shot. We look forward to having you as a valuable member of our community.

Background Story

In orbit of the planet Munto Codru in the Codru system, near Pakuuni in the Outer Rim Territories, is located the secret base of operations of the secret order known as Eternal Vigilance. On board the space station, known to those who are aware of its existence as the "Aeternum", are the meeting halls of this most illustrious order.

The founding of Eternal Vigilance is shrouded in mystery, and it is known fully only to those in the higher echelons of the order. Eternal Vigilance was founded in the aftermath of the last major Sith incursion, during the Revan controversy, by outraged rogue Jedi Master Jeordam Dre'na. Dre'na was furious with the Jedi council, for not committing more resources to the fight, and considered them to be cowardly and incompetent. In the aftermath of the war, he left to found his own order, that of the Eternally Vigilant. Though the recounted tales of these early years are vague, it is apparent that Dre'na must have had friends with considerable wealth and power.

In secret, Master Dre'na sought... [read more]

Only if you're someone who has a short attention span. I think, though, that they are looking for people who are capable of committing for the long haul. You know, people who know that getting an early start on building an organization and working out the details and structure so that it is a solid entity before you go into the game. Preparation most often leads to success.

2 years? FYI, the game should be out in the 4th quarter of 2009 from what I’ve read. I expect beta testing to open up around spring, shortly after e3 (if there is an e3). I wouldn’t expect to wait more than a year before you can actually start playing. The development cycle for this game was shorted for a number of reasons and keep in mind development started mid to late 2005. For one thing they did not have to build the game engine from the ground up or any of the database management resources like most MMO companies have to do. They have a sound engine and login tool already being tested internally I assume, and most of this stuff worked as intended when they purchased the license for them. They also have a few sound guys from Lucas Arts Lucas Films doing the sound right now, and who knows how much longer that will take. It's getting close.

You do understand that Kotor is about 2-3 years out at the minimum?

Rather ridiculous creating a guild for a game that may never see the light of day.  Sure Bioware is doing it, still does not mean it will ever get published.

It's called "read the whole thread" It's not 2 years away. Unlike most MMOs they didn't have build the whole game from the ground up. 9/?/2009 is what they have been shooting for.

Thanks Khalathwyr, you stated it perfectly.  As I tell everyone, we believe the early bird catches the worm - preparation never hurts.  Most of us have experience building communities in pre-release communities and know how beneficial the process can be.  You don't have to agree with me, but those that do... they're the dedicated types that we will be happy to have aboard on release day.

Regardless, if the game does tank, we are a multi-gaming guild.  This is what we do.  We'll be playing it if it comes out, and we'll still be around if it doesn't.  This is one constant you will see among many guilds that are recruiting right now.

This is the philosophy we have in Pax... it makes for a better and more stable community. By the time a game rolls around we are a guild in its truest sense... and can hit the ground running. Its a practice that has worked for us the past 8 years... and I'm sure it will work for you.

I think the point being here, that no one really knows what this game is going to be like.  How can you recruit players when you don't even know if you or they will like the game?  I would think even the developers at this stage of the game probably could not even tell you enough information yet.

Nothing wrong with preparation, just that at this point you don't even know what you are preparing for.

Making a MMO has proved to be the downfall of many well known and experienced developers in this genre.  I don't think Bioware is immune to this either especially since Lucas Arts is involved.

So despite your stated intentions, I still feel it is a bit too premature to start forming guilds for a game we know so little about.

you summed it up right there. thats the date they are "shooting for." that probably will translate into it being release alot later than that even if said "shooting for" date is accurate. so you get a guild together for a game that is 1 year out. what in the hell do you talk about? what do you make plans on? i guess you could sit around and post about how great you think the game is and what you think is going to be in it and what classes you think are going to be in it and which one you think you are going to get to play.

I don't really think modern "shooting for" dates are decently inaccurate. Despite that, I can't really understand why you are such doubters. We form guilds now, so that at launch we will have numbers that can make us a prominent guild - there's fun in that.

They  release news prior to launching the game - these news will form the basis of many discussions, and as release draws nearer, and we know more about the game, we can easily adjust.. In addition many of our members are roleplayers, a lot of "talk" arises through that. In addition ours is not a single-game guild. We play many games. If we were narrowminded we'd have trouble thinking of things to do, luckily we are not.

By your analogy, even you posting in this thread is completely moot, as obviously there are at least some things to talk about prior to release, proven by your own words. Beyond that, check out the SWTOR forums, and see the amount of guilds already recruiting.

Hey people! Wish you all the best with your guild!

Also, wanted to point you in this direction: Linkage

It's a RPG Community for TOR that has been called into being and I hope people use frequently so the community can stick together. Links to Guild Sites, to a RP Wiki and other Community sites are there already.

Cheers.

QFE, building friendships a  year in advance isn't a bad idea. A lot of the largest guilds in MMOs got their start well before the game they end up playing together ever launched. Many of them play multiple games. If anything I would say this is the best time to start building guilds.

I am a new member to EV and I have to say these guys know how to do things and how to have fun doing it. Even if the game takes two years to release or more EV has the foundation and activity of it's members to keep on going.  If you don't believe me you should stop by our site and see for yourself www.evcitadel.com
