The only fantasy part of Star Wars is the Jedi/Sith and the force. Everything else is Sci-fi, and Jedi/Sith make up such a small part of the galaxy. Or is this just falling in line with Lucas' new line of thinking where Jedi are the center of everything? This should be listed as Sci-fi. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

I disagree and believe that the Jedi/Sith make up a great portion of the content in this era. ----------------------- |

No, Jedi/Sith make up a great portion of the focus, not the content. The majority of people/things had nothing to do with the force or Jedi. Even with the Jedi focus, the setting is still Sci-fi with fantasy mixed in, not the other way around. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

star wars has always been a mix of sci-fi and fantasy. because of that, it's probably hard to force it into one category. if i had to pick one, I'd go fantasy. to me, Star Wars is more about the mythology/story. I'm not sure that it matters a whole lot either. Most people know what Star Wars is, so the category isn't too important. |

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away............ Once upon a time, in a castle far, far away..........
Yep, definitely fantasy. |

People have been debating the genre of Star Wars since its creation, and are no closer to a conclusion. Whilst sci-fi may seem like the best term, it can be argued that it isn't. I've always thought that sci-fi, or science fiction, is set in a possible future, whereas fantasy is set in an alternative past. I personally consider anything with electronics to be sci-fi, and everything with magic to be fantasy. Round and round we go! lol Although my opinion isn't strictly accurate, I consider Star Wars to be sci-fi. |

You all realize there is such thing as a mixed genre? its a Sci-fi/Fantasy... It could also enter the realm of, "Romance" or "Action/Adventure" But those are mostly secondary to the plot.

There really isn't an argument for fantasy. Yes, there is a fantasy element with the force, but the fantasy stops there. Space ships, speeder bikes, light sabers, blasters, jet packs, Planet destroying space stations, interplanetary travel, alien races, it's all sci-fi. The ONLY part of Star Wars that is fantasy is the force, and it didn't even play huge rolls in the first 3 movies made. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

What do you mean the force didn't play a big part, "It was the entire backdrop of the story" Thats a big stool

Yes yes, the entire story was in the end about Darth Vader and his fall to and from the Dark side of the force. But look at episodes IV-VI, only parts the force plays are with Luke. When you follow Han and Chewy around, there is no force involved. The battle of Yavin only involved the force at the end. Only Lukes story is really about the force, the rest doesn't have much to do with it. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

Star wars is more sci fi, but if we really want to get all geeky ( which i do ) then it's correct genre would be space opera. Don't know if you can run it? |

ahhh, ok here is what sci-fi is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sci-fi and then here is what fantasy is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy clearly all of swg falls under fantasy since it clearly is in the past of times compared to ours, if it was in the future from our time it could be sci-fi. playing eq2 and two worlds |

Imo, it is listed as fantasy because the jedi and the Sith are the main focus of SW:TOR. It doesn't sound like a SW MMO to me, it sounds more like a Jedi MMO. I also believe this is the reason for the chosen time period. With SW movies and SWG the focus was mainly around the era after the Jedi and Sith. There was few left on either side. SW:TOR seems to be set in a time where Jedi and Sith are every where. So I truely feel it is fantasy because this is what LA wants, a focus on jedi and sith. I think it upset Lucas a bit that being a Jedi in SWG wasn't what most wanted to be lol. Harrison Ford > Mark Hamilton lol. Even I would rather be a Bounty hunter or a smuggler over a Jedi. So I don't think SW:TOR will be Sci-fi I think it will be more fantasy because the focus is primarily on Jedi and Sith, which kind of sucks but what can you do, I still hope there are bounty hunters and smugglers, much more fun than a Jedi atleast to me. |

I consider star wars a sci-fi fantasy. Because it has the look of both elements. |
