been playing MMOs since '99.  never used it once, but people try to use it to slam WAR.  Funny thing is, it is #11 (right now) on xifre.  Not bad, IMO.

Xfire is arse, I couldn't care less about xfire figures to be honest.

Seeing as probably less than 5% of warhammer users actually use Xfire the statistics are pretty meaningless.

I think any post that links to Xfire should automatically be deleted as they are nothing but flamebait.

xfire gets brought up alot here to try and slam WAR.  I brought up the fact that WAR is right now #11.  I dont see that as a failure at all.  It is just outside the top 10 all after the free month.  Doom and gloom is quite premature here.  We will also mist likely see a surge with Christmas and the Dec patch.

lol what's up with you guys? Xfire is a good program to chat and know what games our mates are playing. The xfire figures are obviously unreliable as not every gamer uses xfire, using xfires figures to prove a population on a particular game is low is pretty daft but you can't turn around and call xfire crap.

We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.

Basically these forums have become a flame fest.. Most of the up-and-coming games are.. It seems like a bunch of really bored negative people who just cant find anything constructive to do..

I have been a member of this site for years.. It used to be full of constructive threads and usefull info.. But now I tend to glance at the forums of the game I am currently playing.. Think "Meh" and ignore most topics.  DOnt get me wrong. If someone does not like a game and constructivly posts why its great.. But alot of thes threads arn't even worth my time..  Its sad.

The only thing you need to know about Xfire is this

1 month ago, 15,000 people were using xfire and playing warhammer
Now  7000 people are using xfire and playing warhammer.

Determine from that whatever you want.  Some people (like myself) see it as an indication that about 50% of all players have left warhammer.  Others say it only shows that 8,000 people have left warhammer.

There are currently only a few sources other than EA to give us an indication of how Warhammer is doing.   Pops on servers are now almost all low/low.   Amazon.com now has Warhammer outside the top 100 in box sales for all video games, and outside the top 20 for pc games... and Xfire, which shows half of it's players (15k to start) have now quit Warhammer.

If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. Scroll of Rez gives 7 free days, boost a character to 80 a realm and faction change. Send me PM for an invite. Only 1 per day available

A very small % of MMO players use x-fire.. None of the arguments either positive or negative for Warhammer are valid.

Do you even play WAR ?  Well I do and as of right now the server list is this:

low/low = 30

low/med = 3

med/med = 22

keep in mind, it is a Sunday afternoon, and this is far from primetime play hours -- a game like WAR that has a more casual playerbase is affected even more by off peak hours then games with a hardcore playerbase.  As of last night there were some high pops in there as well and far less low/low.  Also, of the people who quit, a percentage will come back.  And the game will sell more boxes in the coming months, especially during the Holiday Season. Some quit due to needing to upgrade their pcs, others are waiting for the Dec patch and new classes etc.  the fact of the matter is WAR is #11 on xifre.  No matter how you spin that, it is a very small step into being top 10.  Seeing as xifre goes past 100 I think that says WAR is far from dead.

So all you need to know, is that only 10 games out of several hundred are experiencing better rankings on xfire then WAR.  Only 10 -- and the free month is up pal.

Doesn't matter how many % of people use Xfire that play WAR.

It does show the people who DO use Xfire AND play WAR are now playing it less and less often.

Its still a very valid representation of the state of the population.

Xfire, Xfire, such a bunch of controversy it brings up here.

Here's the facts:

1.  Xfire currently has about 7.5k WAR players.

2.  7.5k is statistically significant for populations into the millions with a greater than 99% confidence level and less than 2% confidence interval.  See statistical significance and sample size calculator for easy understanding.

Take that information however you like.  The bottom line is that in evaluating trends in a game's usage, Xfire is statistically valid.  It's no different than the Nielsen Ratings for TV viewership, which is an extremely highly used statistical tool for the TV stations and cable providers.  Thier data is significantly more refined due to millions of dollars being poured into the study of their system, and about 80 years of Nielsen data, but the basic method is similar.

Then WAR is doing fine.  It is #11 on xfire out of several hundred games listed there -- AND it is the 2nd most popular MMO on xfire.  I agree it is a very valid representation of the population and only 1 MMO boasts better #s.  Thanks for helping me to prove my point.  And congrats to Mythic for being #2 MMO on xfire.  The only MMO game that is doing better there has been out for 4 years.

Sorry but a ranking doesn't say anytthing : it's the history of a downward trend that is telling/
here is the downward trend of WAR:

http://www.xfire.com/games/who/Warhammer_Online_Age_of_Reckoning/

A 55% loss in players for a game that only is 6 weeks old AND gained an extra 250.000 new players in its first 3 weeks is frightening.

The same spiral you saw on AOC. In fact at the end of this period AOC had still MORE players than WAR at this moment. Its weekend figures were still 40K hours on Xfire, while War is at 31K hours. I can show you the graphs of this if you doubt...

EU CE editions run for free till Nov 6th, so further drops are certainly expected.Just don't look at the stats within 2 weeks I am afraid. Tsunami is even a kind word for what will happen to this game playing time by then.

That Tsunami will strike at the same time the free time will run out on that 250 K extra players when the game was still selling well. The selling of new copies has also dwindled, so the future looks very grim. Expect it to be on EVE levels at the end of this year. GW is for free of course and has surpassed it already.

There is an issue with sample bias here, though. While the number of xfire uses playing WAR is large enough to allow for statistical evaluation, one would need to assume that xfire users are a "random" or "unbiased" sample.

However, that I do doubt very much.

What kind of people are using Xfire? Now I am just assuming here - but I am almost certain that Xfire users as a group are NOT representative of the MMO player bases. I have played a lot of MMOs - and I have never used Xfire. Same goes for all the people I play with (afaik). So even though Xfire numbers are a large enough sample, I dont think they are a valid reference point due to sampling bias.

becareful with the how  you spin it and that it is almost in the top ten.  All someone needs to say is it was at number 4 and held 5 for a couple of weeks.

Also, guild wars is a head of it, which some (not me) think is an mmorpg.

well the flip side to your point is that even people like me who enjoy and have an active sub to WAR are not playing as much as I did when the game first came out.  I have another MMO I play as well as non MMOs.  My game time is divided and I am sure I am not the only one.  But again, WAR is #11 and that is an upward trend from #13 a few days prior.
