EA has reported 800k registered users with 1.2 million copies sold during their investors conference call.

Interesting but I'm not convinced.

Registered users - people with a registered account

Subs - people with a registered account that are paying subscription fees.

Please learn your terms and dont mix and match them to suite your agenda.  Its good they have 800k registered accounts but I'd like to know some sort of round about on subscriptions that are being retained.

You should read the source material that the OP provides, eh?

"Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, an MMO from EA's Mythic Entertainment studio, sold 1.2 million copies in the quarter -- with over 800 thousand current players. "

Cheers!

Why do you need to be convinced? Will you only play if theres a certain number of players playing all together? You do realize everyone plays on different servers right?

Does this matter? Not really.

Your tears sustain me.

What registered users means is that they are including people with subs and people who just bought the game and are on their free trial.

So of 1.2mil they have 800k, 2/3 retention rate.  Not bad for their first 6 weeks.  As long as the number steadily goes up they are in good shape.

Um.. so that means it has only gained 50k registered users in the last month?  it was at 750k around the 20th of September

Also, they did not say subscribers, they said 'players'.

Registered users include

1. People who bought the box, played the free month, and then cancelled their account
2.  People who preordered the box, played the head start until the grace period was over (sept 18th) and then never bought the box.

If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. Scroll of Rez gives 7 free days, boost a character to 80 a realm and faction change. Send me PM for an invite. Only 1 per day available

I like to l isten in on earnings calls.

800k registered users is the number of people that have nibbled the dangling carrot. It doesn't give a clear indication of how many subscriptions they have.

1.2mil copies sold is impressive even if it includes sales to retail organizations. They means the market is also investing in the success of the product.

All in all I'd say its good news for the game. Things are great as far as gameplay goes, and I've only known them to get better in the few weeks I've been playing.

Cheers

Strange indeed. But very possible

800K "registred" users and 1.2 M "sales".-----> So 400 K boxes were not registred?

That means 400K boxes linger in the shops. EA sold them but the shops still have them in stock as these users are not registred.

And that 800K "registred" are the 750K "accounts MJ speak aboout on Oct 10th

So between Oct 10th and today 50K new "accounts" were added. Sounds logical.

But they don't speak of active subscriptions.

So I guess the active numbver of players would be 50% of the registred users (if taking X fire and the number of low/low servers).

BTW EA figures are terrible: 300 million dollars loss ....

Ough.

You can either agree with me or be wrong!

It *is* kind of disturbing that they chose to use 800k registered users at this point. I've been wondering what was keeping their 1 million mark but it can't seriously be this bad can it?

You are not convinced because an open public company put those numbers in their report?

And you are convinced when WoWbois like Azrile, Bodypass produce numbers from their ass and support their claims with Xfire that only WoW players use?

Understandable...

My sixth senses report an in-yo-face moment for Azrile here.

Go back to the stupid Xfire charts. Maybe you can solve the equation there.

If you took the time and actually read the link, this was as of Sept 30th. So that is 50k in 10 days....

And yes, this is still within the free month (just happened to be that was when the fiscal quarter ended)

I will personally wait until 4th quarter earnings to find out (if possible) the real numbers. Otherwise, it is the same language all MMO companies are using (including WOW) to list subscriber numbers.

You should read the word in red.  It doesnt' say "subs" it says "current players" .   There's alot of people still using the iGamer Free trials and the 30 free days they're current players but they are not 'subs'.

btw im happy with the registered numbers if they can keep even half that'll be even more fantastic.  Azril and bodypass can stfu :)

so i guess that means server caps are around 8000 players per server and since it appears they will transfer half there servers there will be a 16000 player per server cap damn those scenarios are full

No No No

800 K registred users are "accounts created" (the famous 750 K MJ talks about).

The 1.2 M sold are the EA copys sold to shops, but clearly 400K haven't their accounts activated so these linger in the shops.

Sounds very possible, as the super markets I visit have always the same number of copies on the racks.

And btw THIS theory is very VERY much in line with the current trend we see with Xfire numbers.

They are around the 40K on Xfire and at that time AoC said they had 420K subs.

So 800 K "accounts" and half of them play according to Xfire.

Clean sheet.

Except atleast half or more of MMO players don't use XFire so anythign in relation to Xfire is speculation.

this game didnt live up tot he hype. Everybody that played this game knows that many servers population droped a lot. You dont see any High ones anymore. Right now 60% is LOW. Later like around 8:00pm Eastern Time it will be 50% LOW. And considering this game has the looks of WoW, many people are 1. Not playing this game and stay in WoW and 2. canceling their free month sub. And thats exactly what happened. After the free month, most of the servers are a ghost town.

800k registered users? Well, thas ok. But dont think all of them stayed after the first free month. If you play this game, you know what I am talking about.

No they don't say 800K current players.

they say 800 K accounts ...the famous 750 K accounts created remember ...

The "missing" 400 K so called sold boxes are the number of boxes unsold in shops but of course they are already IN the bookkeeping of EA.

It's a twist and a clever one at that.

On Xfire : War has about 12 times less players than Wow at the moment.

So 4.5M divided by 12 = 400 K players. That is NOT 800 K, but indeed 50% of the original number of players about 4 weeks ago.

So cleverly worded, but you don't think about the stock in the shops and 400 K is still unsold to "accounts" but very well sold in EA's bookkeeping.

 Want another proof?

Look at the server populations: 4 weeks ago there were merely 6 or 7 low/low servers, now that number quadrapulled. So in the first days when 500K players were playing servers were complete full and now they are empty with 800K players.

I say: the above it is clear: by dodging the "subcription" number and hiding betwenn "accounts" and boxes sold to shops they want to create again the "hype" of a succesful game ... again.

It's time journalists demand some definitions at these guys and this "vague number" won't do any good to the value of the stock EA represents.

All of these market experts in one thread lol.

How much money are any of you clowns making for being fanboys of one game or the other. If they have even 800k registered users (in which the article clearly states "current players") that means they're making more in a month that most of us will see in a lifetime combined.

WAR is a success....so far. I love the game and advocate its continued growth. At the same time I love it that WoW is doing extremely well. This opens up the market to a lot of other possibilities. It also inspires growth in the genre.

Stop parcing numbers as if anyone knows exactly wtf they are talking about.
