I think 2009 looks like a great year for MMORPGs, especially after the very dull last few years that we have seen. 2009 is supposed to bring us, or claims to bring us: Earthrise Jumpgate Evolution Fallen Earth Mortal Online(I think) Darkfall (Lets be honest, if it's really coming out soon it will probably not be until 09) I thought I saw a few rumors saying SW:TOR was supposed to come out in 09 but that's still doubtful. Overall I think there is a nice line up of new games coming out or scheduled to come out next year. What you guys think? Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

i'd say its the Indie year for sure. whether that turns out to be one of the best years (i do hope so...give the big companies a nice slap in the face) or a horror year who knows?

By experience I can tell you that Mortal Online, SWTOR and Earthrise will take 2 more years to come out......at least |

C9 c9.hangame.com/ <<maybe , and spellborn. So lets all hope for a good 2009. Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries... |

Looks like any other year for mmorpgs to me :\ I mean all them games will have tiny subscriber bases and be aload of crap, people keep putting their faith into these low budget games and never learn that they just don't deliver... Darkfall will fucking suck and I'm fedup of the people who put their faith in it, just let me say I told you so when it's released and sucks and fails. The golden years was 2003 and 2004 but just a shame the genre has done nothign since but ruin them games/ |

They said that about 2008 and look what happened. Two of the most anticipated MMORPGs since WoW came and went. WAR had more hype and promise than all of 2009's offerings put together, and even the most rabid fanboys would have to admit it was somewhat underwhelming. Darkfall is what I'm holding out for, but the odds are stacked against it. |

Agree, we really need something worth playing. |

Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the priviledge to do so as well. |

I think it does look promising. Also, the more games are made that fall short, not say it's what I want to see, the more a game will be made with the player in mind. We'll see though... |

Although I gave up on Darkfall ages ago, I have to agree with you, Zayne. 2008 was disappointing. I can't seem to get excited about anything I see coming up in the forseeable future, either. Well, maybe I'm just nervous about getting psyched up for anything. I WANT to be excited about Champions Online because I had so much fun in CoX, though it never lasts more than a month at a time, but I just can't seem to commit. MMOs made me appreciate how a dog feels when you pretend to throw a ball and it tears off after it only to realise that you never actually threw it at all. Then it gives you "that" look. That look is how I feel about MMOs right now! |

I would imagine that even by fluke alone one of those has to worth playing, the bad game streak must come to an end sooner or later. 2008 has been an appalling year for games across all genres so far in my opinion. Lets hope the 4th quater releases make up for some of it. |

Well the high budget games don't deliver either, so I'm going to guess budget isn't the decisive factor. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

Very true. For the most part, it seems like the AAA MMOs are polished, yet bland and regurgitated, while the indy MMOs are innovative and risky, but also buggy and unfinished. The promising part of it all (maybe) is that all of these recent AAA MMOs have failed to meet expectations. LOTRO, AOC, WAR, all had good box sales, but failed to retain customers and meet their pre-release subscription claims.
