When I'm good, I'm good. When I'm bad, I'm better. |

I knew it was coming, but I still had that pre-christmas excitement when I found out for sure. |

I doubt it. The success of WOW + LOTRO shows that those are NOT things people want. People want good entertainment, good games, and good content. You don't need a huge sandbox to deliver. I am more happy that they are going in a different direction than another has tried b4. There is no MMO focusing on stories .. not to the extent of bioware games.

Im glad that Bioiware makes an MMO but I was kinda hoping for "Neverwinter nights" online. Still, I am positive. Bioware have a lot of things that the MMOS really needs now, we been playing very similar games for a long time and I hope they will add some more RPG in MMORPG :) |

Still, you are right, a sandbox is just one way to make an MMO, and I am happy that Bioware is trying to go their own way, not copy Wow or SWG. Yes we do need a sandbox MMO but Bioware have a lot to offer to the genre ad we need that too, let someone else deliver the game for the sandbox people, Adventurine or someone. Just because someone else made a MMO in the same world doesn't mean you have to copy them. And let's face it, SWG was never a huge success like Wow and GW. I don't think Bioware is aiming for 250K players. |

And considering that arguably there hasn't been one bad game that Bioware has made yet I am really looking forward to this one. Although I will not proclaim it the best MMO or whatever until the time finally comes to where we can play it. If I have any anticipation or excitement for it, I'll keep it to myself mostly so I don't get beat up for it later if things happen to turn bad. |

Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included. |

In one word ( Suspense
"a state or condition of mental uncertainty or excitement, as in awaiting a decision or outcome, usually accompanied by a degree of apprehension or anxiety. " |

Neutral as I would have much rather it be set during the Timothy Zahn, Thrawn Trilogy, period. |

Any new game is a good thing, Bioware are a decent company too. However, fears of another unoriginal, safe themepark grind seem to be on the horizon given what very little information we have so far. But here's hoping for the best, 'positive'. ----- |

I'm really excited about the fact that it's coming and we have a solid name and all. However, there really isn't that much information out right now for me to become fanatical about it... not yet, anyway. |

That will not be Bioware job. Marketing has always been controled by Lucas Arts and thier goal is very simple... break 1 million subs. Compared to WOW and Rune Scape its a modest goal. Lets just hope they realize the IP is not suppose to cover for shortcomings of the game. Further, IP arrogance needs to be checked by the management. We all may love Star Wars, but the strength of its appeal is not universal. Appeal to the fans first and foremost then tweak to gain non-fans and other MMO players. Quit trying to grab the mythical audiance and take care of the ones you know you got. |

I had to pick neutral just from the lack of information. I wish it was sandbox ... but 12 writers with dialogue options (ala Neverwinter Nights) could create the feel of a sandbox. Everybody a hero means that nobody is a hero. There's only so many times you can hear "I'm a 25th level sith ... muhaha!" before it no longer holds the same appeal. |

Originally posted by Deewe I agree with most all of this. But the thing that most made me get a sinking feel was the npc group crap. I hate that in games. Up til' then I was fairly positive. Need more info though. I am surprised there is so little info at this point. |

Quite neutral, the old starwars mmo was average imo. They need to specify what makes this game special besides taking place in the starwars universe. If you want to hire Machete to kill the bad guys, you better make damn sure the bad guy isnt you! |

Check out the Darkfall forums here, and the official forums, for all you need to know to understand what you're dealing with in MMO's today. They don't need quests, storylines, character customization, socialization... Well you get the message. Just give them a large square box where they can kill each other over and over again endlessly, and they will be happy. But... In the meantime, they will make everyone else's life in a game miserable.

What a load of crap. A lot of people want depth and realism in their games.......so yeah your right we dont need quests and storylines because that just restricts a persons freedom. I want to make my own decisions in an mmo, not have the game do it all for me. I dont need an mmo to tell me a story as we have films and books for that. I do want detailed character customisation though that also ties into a reason to socialise with others. Character customisation should go beyond stupid superficial stuff like eye colour, nostril size and the length of your feet. It should include background details such as people you have worked for, groups you are affiliated with, phobias, benefits vs disadvantages etc. It would be great to have a reason to socialise with other players that goes beyond the bog standard brain dead activities like questing and raiding. I also want that realism to incorporate the potential to attack other players if it fits within the scope of the game. This means that I can realisticly deal with other players whose activities impact negatively on me. If it fits with the game then why should I not be able to do this? In the Star Wars films the good and bad guys kill each other all the time so why wouldnt you do it in a game? An online game is the BEST place for players of opposing views to do battle with each other. So no not everyone just wants a room where they can blast each other to bits. Thats a very unimaginative way of looking at it and a giant assumption made by a person who wants to only play games that massively restrict how you play. You may only want to play online single player games in co-op mode against the computer where the game thinks for you but plenty of people are tired of that repetitive shit and want something a lot more interesting. If I'm going to play a game with thousands of people then I would like everyones actions to actually MATTER. This never happens in the kind of crappy linear story driven PvE only crap that we hae been seeing for 15 years. There are way too many kiddies like you that crave safe and boring games......but dont worry there will always be plenty of those for you to play. |
