I think that WAR is going to end up with about 250k as the analysts predicted beforehand.

I suspect that there has been a signifacant drop in players since the free time ended and there will be a big drop when WoTLK arrives.

All the talk that people will get bored with WoTLK and move to WAR is nonsense.   By the time that happens there will be other new mmorps released and any leavers will go to the flavor of the month game, not a game that was released months beforehand.

Subs will only go down from now on, the peak was reached shortly after release.  It doesn't matter what patches are implimented in the future.

History shows that mmorpgs typically get one shot and the initial trend in subscriber numbers, either rising or falling shortly after release, do not reverse but continue and eventually level out.

I disagree

It's only because the majority of MMO released in the past few years have given up entirely after launch. They usually watch how the first month go and then they gut the team to a handfull if the numbers aren't good enough.

It's the lack of dedication that prevents them from ever reaching a higher popularity and from all I've read about Warhammer, their here to stay. The patch that brings back 2 classes is a big proof that they really want to turn this game into what it should be. If it materialize, its proof that they didn't gut the team and truly want to compete with WoW. Which is good for everyone, competition is always a good thing for consumers :)

So, using your logic, they are a massive success then. As sub numbers are rising, not falling, and have been since launch.

WAR made a great impression with most and is well on its way to its first 1million subscribers.

This is just wishful thinking, of course they were going to bring back the half finished content they had already. That doesn't prove anything. Also MJ himself said he wasn't competing with WoW so who are you to say otherwise?

200-300K and it s gonna stay like this until they nerf the Scenarios and improve both PvE and PvP.

Bringing back cut content is something that most game designers never do after they cut them, its often an empty promise. The fact that Mythic is actually doing it, and not in a paid expansion is a big thing.

Not competiting with WoW? Of course they are, he said he was aiming for number 2 spot, not that it wasn't competition. In the most recent interview he says that its a marathon and they want to give Blizzard a run for their money.

Usually the "cut"content you are speaking off is usually stuff that was only mentioned passingly that never made it into beta to begin with, these things WAR had were all mostly in already, just not polished, comparing the two and saying Mythic's reintroduction is a sign of something better is just silly.

I don't remember which but 1-2 of the classes weren't in the beta because they were in a way too early stages of development and yes, they mentionned that they were bringing back all 4 (although 1 of the 2 other might be something else entirely). Even if it was just polish, theres a reason they were cut, they just add too much work left on them to finish in time. I agree that its not a same as introducing something that wasn't there in the first place but I'm sure we can agree that if it was Blizzard, they'd make you buy an expansion for them.

*cough* Hero Class

Now, theres a difference between saying they would and actually doing it though. That is still something we have to see before saying its not just PR :)

Yeah, you can tell sub numbers are rising because Warhammer has fallen off the sales charts, it is plummeting on Xfire and it has more servers on low/low then it ever had before.   Oh, and the lead dev is making plans for server mergers.

Yep.. all those are indications of a growing game.

Yeah, I quit the other day after my one month. Going to wait until this game shakes out and see what happens in the next few months. The turn of the new year will tell the tale.

I think it'll settle at around the 300-350k mark, it's been a sucess but nowhere near the what some peple where saying the games just to niched for it to appeal to a mass market.

some one said that war will give blizzard a run for their money. wish it would, but let's be really realistic, even with all that talk about wow sucks and wow boring etc,  WOTLK will sell about 1 million copies in the first 3 days, and then at least 2 million more until xthmas.    We just need to look at how many units TBC sold, and it was not even that great of an expansion if we take out the class/race addition, and I beta wotlk, and it is a much better better product TBC.

As for blizzard policy mmorpg development policy, blizzard does add a lot of free content (not talking about items, but instances and quest hubs, even areas with patches.) the only thing that is connected with expansion until now have been addition of classes and core game mechanics changes.

one of the points i see tossed around in many forums is that they are slow and unresponsive. I only wish more companies sustaining mmorpgs were like them. they add and release things when they think they should release. and normally release working products ( this is not a hit at warhammer). Not saying that they don't rush things out, but they rush far less than any other.

I think they had a small window before WoTLK comes out to grab and addict a lot of WoW players.  I don't think they were able to do so imo.  While I am done with WoW long ago, WH couldn't even hold my interest for the free month.  The last two weeks I didn't even log in.  The game just doesn't have any addicting qualities to it, for me at least.
