This is incredibly sickening.  Seeing what this game has become.  I can't wait to play on Pre-CU servers again because of how fun it was, and advertisments like this make me roll my eyes in disgust.  How could the most in-depth and immersive MMO world ever made turn into...

grats on making SWG into worst mmo ever

They threw canon out the window when they made pre-teens their target audience.  I still can't believe how bad it's gotten, though.  Remember when they had to get approval from LucasArts before they could add things into the game?

blame WOW.

blame people that pay and play WOW.

WOW is the only reason this has happened.

All mmo's target kids now and none of them are old enough to have credit cards. It should be illegal, it's like targetting kids with cigarette advertising.

No, blame SOE, Blame LEC, Blame the folks that still play SWG (they are the ones keeping this...abortion of a game funded). Put the blame where it belongs

It wasn't Blizzard's idea to stupidifie SWG, they didn't demand that SOE make changes to apeal to the WoW kiddies, Blizzard wasn't responsible for making SWG more appealing to the lowest common denominator

And the only reason that kids are susceptible to any marketing is due to slacker parents that don't pay attention to what their children are doing. They allow the TV, Internet and video games raise their kids rather than be bothered to do it themselves.

Ok so what is a Galatic Moon?  Is it like a small companion galaxy?

Sorry, just had to ask myself that.

Does this officially make the NGE a trick with no treat?

Well I like the Wookie Life Day event stuff.  That offered a seasonal celebration, but still had you feeling immersed in the StarWars universe.

This one doesn't really seem to hit the "immersed in the StarWars universe" mark.  This doesn't really surprise me though.  CU and then NGE kept taking steps away from immersion, and away from a world simulation feel.  They kept moving closer to an arcade feel, which isn't really what the original game was at all.

To begin with, it was about living out the "greatest saga ever told, yours."  The vision was to put you in the StarWars Galaxy and allow you to create your own story.  CU took a big step away from this, and NGE left it behind almost completely.  This kind of celebration does not fit at all with the original vision, but it does fit with the new arcade feel of the game.  I signed up for the immersive experience though, and it's long gone.

Well it sure is a reflection of how much the vision behind the game has changed since it's release.  Since I bought into the original vision wholeheartedly, this doesn't offer me anything I'd consider a treat.

Sometimes I feel bad for the devs that just want to do something fun, especially the newer, younger ones.  I wouldn't be surprised if some have no idea of the game's original vision.  Some might not even realize the minefield they're stepping into professionally by deciding to work on this game.  Ah well, hopefully they'll clue in, and make decisions accordingly.

Tbh, I don't think I could work on this game.  I'd be dealing with people that someone else screwed over repeatedly.  I'd be hearing about bugs that people promised to fix years ago, but never did.  I'd realize that some of the bugs maybe can't be fixed, period.  I'd learn that my boss promised server mergers and didn't deliver.  Everything I did would be criticized by one side or the other of a badly divided consumer base.  Pretty thankless task I'm thinking.

Sometimes I think that's why we hear the dev team praising themselves, and calling themselves "hands down the best dev team in the industry" and things like that.  I figure they must have to say that to themselves to keep from going mad.

SWG's original vision died when the PreCU was done away with.  The traces got kicked over when the NGE did away with CU.

I find it funny they bolt the EQ2 halloween event crap into a game that has absolutely NO canon for it.

I agree life day events were pretty cool.  But that's because it was creative the way they could spin the Christmas holiday into something that fits into the SW universe and lore.

This is just an abomination, though.  Not only because of how it destroys the SW atmosphere but also the way it's advertised.  It's just so freaking amaturish.  Same way with the official forums nowadays.  Any time I get nostalgic about the game and consider looking at it again I only have to spend about 5 minutes on their forums to come back to my senses.  Talk about Romper Room.

If only the last few remaining monkeys would get a clue and cancel so they could finally put this thing in the ground where it belongs.  I can't understand how anyone could look at this garbage and not want to flush it down the toilet immediately. cause that is most definitely where it belongs.

While I agree the Wookie life day events did seem more "Star Warsy" the event always posed a canon issue for me personally.  Wookies in all the games that they were featured in were treated as a sub species to the ruling powers at the time.  Kotor plot lines exploited this.  More recently  The Force Unleashed for PS3 (no I don't own one) had the plot line with enslaved Wookies and a younger princess Lea.  The Empire has never shown any fondness to the Wookies in any of the movies or books I've read.

The Wookies have always been a metaphor for man's willingness to enslave his fellow man without dignity or respect.  I find it hard that in the time of the Empire that such a celebration would be allowed to take place.  Especially since such ethnic holidays for a species they do not embrace takes away focus from the Emperor and his goals.  It just never made sense to me to spring up a giant life tree in the middle of theed.

I think it would have been much better if they did it on Kash only and wrote some minigame content to coencide with it there.

Of course I agree this Halloween deal is just ruining the feel of SW.  It is taking away from what I felt the SW IP was.  I wonder if Darth Vader sits around carving Jack'o'lanterns and gives apples to kids because they are healthier only to find his house toilet papered in the morning.

In the weee hours of the morning I often find myself pondering that very thing. Although, I think Vader is the kind of guy that gives Citrus. Just a Hunch.

Well folks, we have reached an all time low...I wish I could say it won't be long now, but the truth is who knows just how bad it will get. Thanksgiving is coming up fast.

Lol...stop hating. The game is still being played, and obviously enjoyed by people. The nge is way past you. Let it rest and instead focus on your mmo of choice now. The nge-hater crowd sounds like a broken mp3 on repeat already.

Ah yes we can only hope! Maybe for this coming Life Day Darth Vader will fly into Theed in his Tie Fighter pulled by reindeer.
