Well I am a Bioware fan and I play just about all their games. Bioware hardly disappoints their followers and I expect the same from SW:TOR. Only 4 more days until we see what we are getting.

never played Mass Effect but do you think that Combat System would fo a KOTOR style MMORPG?

I'm really not sure what combat system would work for their mmo but I really hope it doesn't turn out to be very sluggish like Warhammer was which I really doubt it will be.  I expect their comabt system to be fast paced and I hope we can be able to have an option to use fps mode for guns if we choose that route :) I expect it to be story driven with cutscenes like Mass Effect which btw were pretty awesome! They really made you be engulfed in the story and you always wanted to see what is going to happen next.

Just curious why do you think they would make an FPS game when the next Battlefront game is in development? I mean why make 2 FPS games?

FPS game ? No way, this won't be no fps game but if you ever played Hellgate or if you have seen the previews for Fallout 3 they give you the option to go into fps mode if you want. I think that would be a really neat feature to have.

I'm gonna have to pass on an FPS mmorpg.

2 days and counting. Worst scenario is that there is no KOTOR\The Republic MMORPG. Which leaves us with no classic server for SWG and a producer who prefers horror over Sci Fi in charge of SWG. Great!

I am very hopful here...I'm not gonna worry about shit I can't control. Yes I would love to see a Sandbox game set in the KOTOR Universe, but I can wait the rest of my life. One day we will see such a game again.

Who knows what kind of MMORPGs they will have in 25 years.Think about it MMORPGs in their current form have only been around 7 or 8 years now. Look how far the tech has come in such a short time.

Honestly, this isn't the first time I've seen this -- what on earth makes anyone think that a KOTOR/Old Republic MMO is a precursor to a classic server?

So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.

If I'm not mistaken he is simply implying that there is and will not be a classic server, not that it wont happen if there isn't an Old Republic MMO.

LOL, I say once SWTOR is release it the end of SWG. I mean how many people actually still play the game. They are lucky if the have a few 10,000 to 30,000 subs.

I just hope the Sandbox crowd go into the game with a open mind and aren't put off by not have a true sandbox and skill base profession.

Bioware is know for great storyline, choice driven games which is more theme park like WOW and WAR. From what i have read must of the top dev in the project are big fans of WOW and played it.

Combat will be alot like Mass Effect (great game and combat system). I'm hoping for more open and exploreable planet then what was created in KoTOR 1 and Mass Effect. Which I'm sure they will as it a MMP and not a single player game.

We will have about 10 to 12 professions level and feat based. (Jedi,Sith BH and Smuggler) Maybe 4 to 6 races if were lucky at launch. Or they could allow you to create your own race as STO. (Maybe not but we can dream)

Planet wise maybe up to 6 hopefully more (All the one in KoTOR 1 and 2) They have been working on this game since Dec 2005 and are using the Hero Engine which would allow them just to create content and not have to worry about creating the engine. From what I seen the hero engine seem to be amazing and easy to create contact and add too.

I for one can't wait til Tuesday and them the new PC gamer on the 23rd for the PC gamer exclusive on the MMO>...

www.pcgamerpodcast.com/

Listen to it about 6 to 7 minutes into it they talk about their feature story and cover page!

Remember Sandbox and SWG fan have a open mind!

It will be d20 so it will have feats and skills and probably enhancements per class that will improve your feats or skills or racial abilities. my nightmare scenario is all instanced, teleportation travel and worlds that are just hubs for instances and you can't explore them or drop a house. they really have to make the skills count as well.

I don't think so. I think the game will be alot like AOC starting island City. I thought that was really well done. I love how each class type have their own quest series. To bad the rest of AOC was to buggy and incomplete.

Funcom is around company I would never trust. They promise so much and still haven't got it done...

Bioware and LA announce that they're actually working at an Indiana Jones online where Dr. Jones goes back in time to witness the rise of the Roman Empire. "The Old Republic" actually refers to the struggle against Caesar....

4) few customization options for character / skill look and template.

5) shity, simplistic crafting system where crafters are meaningless and all loot is quested.

6) if micro-transactions are in anyway shape or form part of this game.

A very nice summary of what I, for one, don't want either.

  1. I don't mind playing in my sofa either
  2. If it's console please no FPS.
  3. Had much fun with Kotor I and II, so I guess it could work
  4. Yup love character customization
  5. Doh loot/reward based game. :(
  6. I don't mind either only if it's for cosmetic stuff.

My biggest fear, knowing Bioware, is it will be too much story oriented so listening endless dialogues, does not fit in an MMO.

First off, the engine they are using, the Hero Engine, is PC only, so they'd have to basically have a 2nd team doing a conversion for it to work on consoles.

Secondly, assuming that it is also released on consoles, my main worry is that it'd be dumbed down for console controllers instead of requiring (or even supporting) a keyboard.  That would put me off completely.

As for "macrotranscams" I will not play anything that uses that, because gameplay won't be about how good you are or how good your guild is, but based on how much money you are willing to spend.

There is simply too much temptation for a MMO publisher to screw with drop rates and other things in game to make the non RMT path (if they even offered one) so unattractive as to basically force people to buy crap all the time in order to compete.

Not to mention that Devs have the option of obsoleting gear at any time, and you can bet, in a game with RMT that today's stuff for sale via RMT will always be better than last month's.

Maybe it's because I'm still so jaded by SOE that I assume that MMO publishers will ALWAYS give in to temptation to screw over their customers when they see a quick buck in it, but it is what it is, and LEC/Bioware/EA WILL have to deal with this, as the bruised and battered SWG community IS going to be the core audience of their new MMO whether they like it or not.

Which is why LA & BW need to create a game in the image of the old Pre-CU. If they do this they with have at least 300k in loyal fans and another 200k that come and go. Lets hope they are looking to go this route.

I can guarantee that they will not take this path.  Take it as you will the SWG community was too small to be aimed directly at.  True, they may cater to some of what the SWG community is looking for but do not expect a skill based system or an open world.

Tell us why we have no chance of seeing a "Skill Based" system and an Open World? What is driving your points? How can you guarantee such things? Is it just a hunch or can you back your claims with fact.

Because Bioware never satisfied with 300-500k players and they shouldnt

because everything is changing i am sure they will use stuff including properties from a sandbox game, from Pre-CU but this game will NEVER be Pre-CU.

IMHO they are trying completely new things in online gaming and sceneraio and story will be perfect, but they also make a harmony from WoWish or Consolish fast play style and components-mostly for the customers who is under 18, and everybody will find his way in the old republic and believe me this is the best decision IF they would make it true and detailed and well considered. and yes, i am trusting Bioware.

Check : You can bet on it it will be at least for 1 Console, they are a commercial developer, plus being aquired recently by EA, they will make sure the game will be available to the wider audiance possible.

2) the combat system revolves around a form of FPS & TPS "twitch" mechanic.
Check: It will be a mix between FPS and the traditional MMO mechanic, let's say closer to AoC than any other game.

3) no open world where almost every area is instanced.
Check: All Bioware RPG are story driven, most of them have a restricted area to explore, they use often invisible walls, as opposed as Bethesda where they leave freedom of movement in Morrowind/Oblivion.
Altough I don't predict they gonna use invisible walls for their MMO, Bioware will make good use of instancing.

4) few customization options for character / skill look and template.
Check: Bioware focus more on the gameplay and story, rather than customization, although in a MMO you need to have lots of armor/clothing, so it won't be that bad.

5) shity, simplistic crafting system where crafters are meaningless and all loot is quested.
Check: They won't complicate the player game experience by adding a distraction to the questing/adventuring.

6) if micro-transactions are in anyway shape or form part of this game.
Fail : They won't do this, as said above, their RPG are story driven, they won't allow having advantages by buying items on the mall. They like to immerse the player in the world, so buying stuff you didn't gain in the game is out of question.

That's my prediction mate, since I played all of Bioware games, I have a certain incline about what kind of game they gonna make

Maybe just maybe, BiOWARE wants to prove that they can do more than just Story Driven games? You don't know. Maybe, they want to show the world they can make the best damn MMORPG on the market, by givings us the very best of a Story Driven game combined with all best elements of a Sandbox game.

Maybe, just maybe they are tired of seeing all the same crap recycled gabage out there today.

2) the combat system revolves around a form of FPS & TPS "twitch" mechanic.
Check: It will be a mix between FPS and the traditional MMO mechanic, let's say closer to AoC than any other game. Ugh... Disgusting, but probably true.

3) no open world where almost every area is instanced.

hehe define "good use" :D Personally, I think there's no good use for instancing unless it's to prevent griefing, which would typically restrict it to high-end content only.

4) few customization options for character / skill look and template.
Check: Bioware focus more on the gameplay and story, rather than customization, although in a MMO you need to have lots of armor/clothing, so it won't be that bad.  Their focus is almost entirely on story.  They have typically allowed decent customization in their single-player games, which would seem to indicate they'd allow for more in an MMO.

5) shity, simplistic crafting system where crafters are meaningless and all loot is quested.
Check: They won't complicate the player game experience by adding a distraction to the questing/adventuring.  This flat-out sucks, as there's nothing about crafting that "complicates" the player's game experience, but I can definitely see Bioware justifying no crafting using that line of thinking.

6) if micro-transactions are in anyway shape or form part of this game.
Fail : They won't do this, as said above, their RPG are story driven, they won't allow having advantages by buying items on the mall. They like to immerse the player in the world, so buying stuff you didn't gain in the game is out of question.  Admittedly this wouldn't be so bad as long as it's restricted to cosmetics only, as previously mentioned.
