Yes, the shadows are nice, but WoW's graphics are NOT high end, even on high settings and the macro commands to increase settings more. WoW does have some beautiful scenery, but that is the art, not the graphics. The graphics in WoW are low end, always have been, always will, that's Blizzard's way of allowing more people to play.

Now I am down to 1400*900 and options at half. Coming to 35/40 FPS now in my fights. If you don't see the upgrades, you're half blind I think. Of course it has the same graphics looks, but I just want full control of my avatar. What's the use of having some hairs more if you see stutter on the character control. I have had enough of AoC/WAR clunky clones already. |

I heard they've upgraded shadows and a new ice shader for Northrend. Apparently they are gradually implementing graphics improvements bit-by-bit rather than all at once. |

Just kill the shadows. In even the most ho-hum graphical games, the minute dynamic shadows are added, your GPU and CPU take a large hit. Shadows are THE most demanding graphics wise, followed by lighting. |

Just wanted to drop in that the new shadows were pretty useful yesterday as while i was attacking another target i caught the shadow of a MOB behind me before it actually got to me, so i was able to turn and drop a trap just as it got to me rather than suffering a couple of attacks before i could drop a trap. I am normally more vigilant, but it never occured to me that the way you face and where the shadows drop could be that useful until that point (thick day i think :). It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays. |

Woah, i knew it. They are trying to hide their graphics. You can see that they kinda just darkened everything out and added a brown layer. Everyone knows that Brown = Realism.
Kudos for wowers though. I bet they are satisfied witht he graphical "revamp" on the newer areas. The speed of the mole and the power of steel is my weapon |

Meh, this is another topic where taste will be the ultimate factor. Personally, I like EQ2's graphics better, WoW's character models, and EQ2 scenery. EQ2 ran into the same barbie-esque problem a lot of games have.

I'm sorry I don't see how slightly better graphics makes you lose control of your character more. Unless you mean you are lagging so bad its effecting you being able to do things. I don't notice any performance hit at all unless I have the new shadows turned on. Computer games will always advance and upgrade like this over time, MMOs are not the exception, if you can't upgrade and keep up, PC gaming probably just isn't for you anymore, and for WoW its not even like you need to upgrade hardly ever compared to other PC games. |

Frankly, I'd say for a computer I see people keeping them for 2 - 3 years at least....then "handing them down" to a younger child or someone else.

Yeah - my PC is able to run every game out there today pretty decently. There was a noticable difference when I had the shadow detail turned up all the way. Still playable for me, but not "smooth as glass" like I've come to expect from WoW.

OH YEAH... I noticed a HUGE difference is zangamarsh. I didn't get a chance to really look at the models but they look the same to me. Am I not seeing a difference with the models? "Everything is mine and your woman too" |

The shadows are a very nice and overdue touch, it makes the world seem 3-D instead of flat.. It didn't kill my PC like other games tended to with shadows on. Overall the game seems to move faster like when I have too much coffee, but that's a welcomed change as well. I do like better graphics but not at the expense of gameplay or the generation of lag. http://www.allaboutgod.com/ |
