I will not pay for something that feels like a singleplayers game. So far the game has failed when it comes to gettin the server population near what is needed for keeping the PQ:s and PvP:s in action.

When looking in the open group window its 1-3 players TOPS, and its a medium/medium server!!

Thats hilarious for a multiplayer game.

Key word is "open" groups. Ive seen alot of groups that are closed. Just fight around em and help em out and theyll pass an invite.

Specialy goes for RvR those groups always run around private.

Reroll on a high population server. I can't believe I'm saying this but it's the only thing that will save you from being totally frustrated "medium/medium" servers are dead!!

You can thank WoW and its various spin offs for what you are suffering through.  In the old day you had to group to get to places and you had to have a guild to make it to the hard stuff. 

 

  Today groups are throw-away and guild are used for hopping if you do not get satisfaction.  Most  every game suffers from it.  Content of some of the older games has been changed also to reflect and easierr time to level and make it  to the harder content.

  Pick up groups have also died a voilent death as they get trashed in games today,  people carry that perception from game to game and the feelings just intensify. 

 

If I try out a new game today, I come armed with either personal friends or from a guild in a previous game, for me this has helped me survive the dry patches.

Not sure what server you play on, but it's no single player game on my server.  Let me ask you a question.  Do you belong to a guild?  Are you even looking for a guild?  If not, why not?  WAR is an mmo based on rvr, it's not for people who don't want to join a guild.  Sure, you don't have to join a guild to get into rvr, that's where scenarios come in to play... but you'll miss out on the benefits of being in a guild.  My guild tries to enter scenarios with a full group so that we can benefit from learning to play with our members and learn how each class works in regard to other classes.

He's probably trying to be antisocial and is not getting all the random invites from people he's not talking to..

I think this is as good a reason as any. Before WoW came out, I can't think of any MMO's I played where I was actually able to solo to max level. Groups were *forced* on you, but really, it wasn't that terrible of a system provided it didn't take you too long to find a group. After WoW, for some reason, being able to solo the game became a central design philosophy and a selling point for MMO's. If you want to know why PUG's in MMO's are so terrible now, it's because of this. When people are only forced to group up for instances/raids, they miss all of those levels of learning group tactics.

Frankly I'm baffled by these posts.   I play on Ulthuan, Order side, which I believe is medium/high?  Haven't looked for a while, because I'm never having trouble finding people to hang with.

Daily my  medium-sized non-zerg guild has multiple groups doing a variety of things across tiers.   On the weekends, hundreds of people from the server play together in mass RvR.    Heck - even during a Monday mid-afternoon (like yesterday), it's quite doable to get a warband or two going to take keeps.

If you are having trouble finding people to interact with, perhaps the problem lies with you.   Take some time to research guilds, develop friends, talk and interact with others.   The same system you'd use for any MMO.

Then it wont be a single player game.

Not everyone is going to be waiting there with an open party for you to join.

 I'm on Avelorn server and I haven't experienced this. I don't feel like I'm in a single player game though I do love the ability to switch from solo to group play.

 Avelorn is mdm/mdm population and I haven't had any problem finding people to group with.

Yeah, that's a good point as well......I most often actually make my party private.   I really don't like random people joining my party without asking.   It's a handy tool for sure - but I've always been somewhat selective with the people I choose to hang out with even on the Internetz.     The only time I leave it open really, is for keep-taking partial warbands - then it's good to leave them open, so people can easily join if interested.   Otherwise, if I happen to see someone that appears to be working on the same thing I am......I prefer to send them a tell or use /say, and ask.     For all I know, there could be many people who do the same thing......it's just a habit for me already, haven't really paid much attention as I don't look to join open groups either without asking first....and really I don't look for open groups being there are already tons of people around I know.

I really do miss grouping for hours on EQ and having fun questing and just killing random mobs together ,Untill you realize the suns comming up and it's time to get some rest,but feeling good about it because you made a little connection with your group mates and then doing it all over again the next night good times indeed. No game has ever made me feel that way again.

QFT, EQ Ruins of Kunark was by far the most fun I had ever had in a video game ever. Because you basically spent hours just killing stuff and talking with your group.  Also...monsters were very difficult to kill...and unless you had the best gear (which required hours upon hours, waiting for rare spawns) to get you were screaming for a group. And every class was usefull in that game.  We need something like that.  Warhammer I think is a great compilation of many different games, but one thing I do think it fails at..is giving me that "Must need a group to level because of difficulty feeling".  Warhammer does it at higher levels depending on what you are doing.  However even regular mobs in EQ were not easy to kill by yourself..usually not even with two people unless you had a kiting class.

I'm awful glad WAR isn't what you are describing.   There are plenty of PvE kill mobs/raid dungeon games around.    One of the great things about WAR is that you can have fun on BOTH pvp and pve - while it is definitely more PvP focused.   I've felt like the game didn't sacrifice it's PvP for PvE like most seem to do.

And to the poster before you - this is the first game in a long time that has kept me up into the wee hours of the morning, pvping......and I could never do that for a PvE game.   Everyone has their own desires out of a game, but I'm not sure why you are raving about grinding PvE mobs in EQ, on a WAR forum.

Ahhh Kunark, also my best MMORPG experience to date; one major difference between EQ and WoW and its clones was that you didn't need to spam abilities, your weapon dmg and delay actually meant something.

is there a guild recruitment window that Ive missed somewhere? I did find a command /lfguild which states when activared that "You ar eno looking for a guild"  most people Ive found do not respond or respond negatively to blind random tells for whatever reason. There needs to be a I window listing what guild are looking for memebers and lists a name to contact for membership info.

WAR is a great game dont get my wrong, i love playing it and the time dissapears before my eyes lol. I know that you dont understand why "grinding" pve mobs in EQ was fun.  First of all back then MMO's didnt have this term called Grinding. Grinding has a negative connotation, It basically means a bad way to spend your time.  Back in the old days...MMO's werent about grinding to get gear or to do this or whatever.  Everyone just had fun exploring, killing these cool bosses and basically surviving as a group. We spent hours hanging out and just talking while we killed stuff. I dont really know how to explain the experiance. Lets just say its def not what MMO;s are today. Yes MMO's today are fun..but they are fun in a different way.  Too many people have become greedy and it has siphoned the life out of the veteran players like myself.  Anyway..anytime someone says grind in an MMO that person is not enjoying the game.  Because as people say there is a grind in WAR, I dont see a grind..i love my time in the game and look forward to my next rank and so on and so forth.

Fair enough - I never played EQ, although I've heard good things about it.   I'm just not a big fan of PvE discussions in the WAR forum lol.   I've been playing video games for hm......28 years, since the first console boxes came out, as well as me and my bro rocking our Commodore 64 haha.....even played on Vic-20's!  I didn't start getting into MMO's until about 4 years ago.  I can appreciate what you mean, as I've spent many a time playing games with friends MMO or not.   But some people are more interested in exploring/experiencing content a few times.....while others are more dedicated to completing a PvE section till they've killed every single mob, or beat every boss, or got every loot drop possible.   I'm not one for that - my point being there are different game interests.   And one thing I like about WAR, is that it's a good fit for me - I can get both my PvE (awesome exploring, Gunbad was well done for example as a dungeon) and PvP fix to boot (I enjoy scenarios, and love the mass RvR for hours on end).   I guess time will tell if that lasts, I hope so.

You could solo to max level with certain classes in EQ, DAOC, etc etc.  WoW didn't event the idea of solo friendly.  It just refined it.  Hell L2 and FFXI are some of the more grind intensive, have a group games out there.  Yet in each there is at least one class that can go from 1 to cap solo.  

Hell the only time I ever grouped with my necro in EQ was for chatting purposes, 95% of the time I was solo.  Same thing for my Bonedancer in DAOC, my Engineer in AO (though I never hit cap), and plenty of other games I have played over the year.

  Today groups are throw-away and guild are used for hopping if you do not get satisfaction.  Most  every game suffers from it.  Content of some of the older games has been changed also to reflect and easierr time to level and make it  to the harder content.

  Pick up groups have also died a voilent death as they get trashed in games today,  people carry that perception from game to game and the feelings just intensify. 

 

If I try out a new game today, I come armed with either personal friends or from a guild in a previous game, for me this has helped me survive the dry patches.

 

I think this is as good a reason as any. Before WoW came out, I can't think of any MMO's I played where I was actually able to solo to max level. Groups were *forced* on you, but really, it wasn't that terrible of a system provided it didn't take you too long to find a group. After WoW, for some reason, being able to solo the game became a central design philosophy and a selling point for MMO's. If you want to know why PUG's in MMO's are so terrible now, it's because of this. When people are only forced to group up for instances/raids, they miss all of those levels of learning group tactics.

 

You could solo to max level with certain classes in EQ, DAOC, etc etc.  WoW didn't event the idea of solo friendly.  It just refined it.  Hell L2 and FFXI are some of the more grind intensive, have a group games out there.  Yet in each there is at least one class that can go from 1 to cap solo.  

Hell the only time I ever grouped with my necro in EQ was for chatting purposes, 95% of the time I was solo.  Same thing for my Bonedancer in DAOC, my Engineer in AO (though I never hit cap), and plenty of other games I have played over the year.

 

I don't really think those are good examples of solo gameplay. In each of those games, there was only really one class that could solo.
