Well, MechScape - the project name not the actual name, is designed in a way not to copy cat every mmo out there... So i believe MechScape will bring some fresh air on the MMO scene, maybe we will both play it, who knows ;)

I do not think that a company that has had a decade to work on a game wnad still comes up short would be able to produce a quality game in the short amount of time  they have been working on this that will not be outdated by the time of release.

I do not have confidence in this company after seeing what they were able to accomplish in 10 years.

Yes, it's just a stripped down browser window.

If "mechscape" doesn't do well (most sci-fi MMOs don't) Jagex will be in for a hard time with their only product in steep decline.

Maybe if I'm going to have my Xfire profile up, I should start using Xfire...

It's been scrapped. They have a new unannounced project in the works

I don't think it's been scrapped, we would have seen something on MMO sites by now.  But with all the delays and such little amount of info being released etc it isn't looking good.

Even if they finish it the competition, which is other sci-fi MMOs in the works (far to few to be picky) is looking to absolutely smash mechscape or whatever they like to call it now.  Games like The old republic and Infinity: quest for earth are going to steal all the sci-fi fans and I doubt anyone will quit Eve for it.

The project mechscape is no longer being developed on. A new project using an updated version of whats been made so far of the mechscape engine is currently being developed. Can't find the exact quote but someone from jagex said something to this effect.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

Just found this as well:

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/decision-to-cancel-mechscape-costs-jagex-tens-of-millions

The current CEO is probably better than the last one, but I think it's all come to late.  I doubt they will be able to develop and launch a game that's going to pull back all the players they have lost, and change their bad reputation among gamers.

Considering how long it has been talked about, in todays market the idea they had will have been used up time and time again - you need to move with speed to make a difference!

I wish I had kept the link to another discussion site that had Mod Andrew of Jagex Developement talking about how they used Runescape2 as a toy to play with for testing the good and bad out so they could improve their other games design better. The words weren't that specific but thats what it actually meant and also consider that they have Funorb and other games using the same servers that all Runescape members have paid to have them built - this continues to give lagg and disrupt the pleasure of playing.

The way Jagex went wrong was in loosing their original mature developers and having designers take over that lacked real-life experience of the effects of making mass mistakes. Runescape2 was such a simple game design with enough balance to make playing a pleasure for young and old. Then these immature fools took over and, without knowing the backlash certainty to come, they removed the wildy aswell as quickly following up with trade limits and the Genetic Economy (we all know how bad gentics are in life - this is the real name to replce the Grand Exchange). Since then all they do in updates is upset more and more players, they totally lack direction in how to approach the problems that face them thus make another mess that fails to cover up the previous problem. The more complicated you make anything, the more people will hate it  - how many times have you heard more mature people talk about 'Getting back to Basics' .

As for the numbers playing, I can remember years ago seeing near 400,000 online including heaps of macros earning rl cash. Recently there was about 35,000 playing but with schools being out on holiday the numbers went back up with 100,000 for a week but averaging about 55,000 more recently. Once school starts up soon this will dwindle a lot more again. Then on top of this take into account that a large percentage of those on have hacked accounts they didn't do much work at all and the GE market along with Faldor Parties is supplying mostly revenue from hackers while the highest players with the most cash can manipulate this mostly for themselves. Then of course there's those Cream Cash accounts advertising at the GE in all worlds trying to hack or manipulate even more accounts.

Yea I had read on their mechscape forums how they were using runescape to try out ideas as well.

there wasa dicussion a while back about the numbers manipulation when people were posting screenies of every world off line and it saying there were still 100,000 player still playing! LOL When I noticed that before, I thought it was a glitch.. but then after so many times I realized that was NO glitch!

Also if you look at the recent stats for their other site, Funorb:  http://siteanalytics.compete.com/funorb.com/  it follows a similar pattern.  I think it's safe to say it was a bit of a flop :P

OMG it cancels my loggin posting. What a waste here now.

I wont' repeat it but to sum it up:

Runecsape is gone and now you play Botterscape as wepay for over 80% to bott  alll the way to 99 and Abuse Reports are totally ignore just as Hackers are left to play and steal hundreds of thousands of real-life moneys worth in accounts.

Nowdays over 100,000 accounts play and probably barely 10,000 real people. No doubt also 20,000 or more are hackers accounts which also never get banned nowdays.

The time has come to report the Poms that run the game as they fail to follow their own rules. All they care about now is money whatever way they can get it. Jagex must be the worst online game company in existance.

Also go to my recent thread in MMORPG Pub discussion to let them know your worst game and developer. Due to the size with all the help sites I believe Runescape has made the worst mess of all.

What the fuck are talking about? There are barely any(if any) botters on the member worlds, and a lot less in the free world compared to 5 years ago.

My guess would be that you think botters are just all the bald lvl 3's running around.. sorry to burst your bubble, but if you actually look at the 3rd party RMT sites, they are selling high level fully loaded accounts now. They are training accounts for you. Now they just have a lot of high level bots. You are incorrect about the botters being gone- far from it. When you compared the drop of individual users to the number of programs accessing their client, the number of programs accessing their client only dropped slightly, while the number of actual individual users took a harsh dive. Now, bots have to spend a longer amount of time in their game in order to train them much higher. You are incorrect if you think that members servers are lacking in bots-  pretending they do not exist does not make them go away. How many people are botting at vines? Mining? bandits? Why not walk around and see how many people in those areas will respond to you on members servers.

Jagex's updates made this much easier for them to sell acounts due to name change, easier leveling, and removing the risk of death  randoms, quick chat, as well as a the changes they made in the report system. They pretty much set the field  ideally for account sellers, not harmed them in any way.

 You have been duped. LOL

As many players as they are loosing I still dont think Jagex is aware. They are about as blind as a bat as we have realized over the years. Somebody should point that out to them.

Bats aren't blind lol. They don't have too bad of eye sight.

But yes botters are the main population in member and non member worlds.
