City of Heroes/Villains Game Designer Phil Zeleski gives us the details behind the Day Jobs system that is on it's way in Issue 13: Power and Responsibility, the games next content update.

In the newest Dev Diary, Game Designer Phil Zeleski explains the new Day Jobs system that will be introduced in Issue 13: Power and Responsibility.

Day Jobs takes the concept of offline character progression to a new level, incorporating a variety of potential rewards and allowing players to add further depth to their character's identity and back-story. Is your Hero a Banker when not out stopping crime, or maybe a simple Shop Keeper? Is your Villain an avid Clubber, or perhaps a Smuggler? Whatever you choose, Badges and Accolades await in addition to other bonuses!

Cool,

Finally figured out how to do alter ego/secret id in CoH/V.  Not bad.

The whole day-job concept  is, in my opinion,  very creative . 'Grats to the devs for continuing to keep CoH alive and well.  It's such a refreshing change from the usual swords&sorcery genre that most of us know so well and have played to death,lol..

My  wife and I just came back to CoH from WAR. To our surprise there are still a ton of people playing on our server JUSTICE and the game has advanced and is better than ever. I love this game. The community is the best in my opinion as well. The day job thing will be very cool.

I just returned to CoH myself, and this is just icing on the cake for me.

So many changes have have happened that I find myself very glad I resubbed.

It's an interesting concept, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a good fit for a casual player, who logs on for short sessions every now and then. On one hand, it'd be nice to earn something for all the time I'm offline. On the other hand, I'd hate having to waste time trekking to the work place and back.

actually, it looks like it might be easier for the casual player than the more frequent  player:

Most rewards take 10 days of logged out time to reach the maximum benefit.

...

When characters are logged out from a designated location (consecutively or non-consecutively) for a total of 30 days they will earn a badge associated with the corresponding Day Job.

...

When players log back into Paragon City or the Rogue Isles they will gain 1 bar of double experience (when defeating enemies) for every 24 hours they are logged out.

So you get your toon to a workplace, log out, leave it in there for about 10 days, then come back and play some more. Go back to your work place before logging out and you go back to earning your badge.

That "10 days of logged out time to reach the maximum benefit" might actually hurt SGs who have a weekly attendance requirement.

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.
