Mythic Entertainment has published the coming changes with Game Update 1.0.2, which brings a wide variety of tweaks and fixes to all areas of Warhammer Online.

  • The war against the gold spammers continues. We’ve added new code that will hinder the spammers as they seek to carry out their nefarious deeds! This is only the next step, not the final one, in our continued battle against them.
  • We have added a 'Join All' button to the scenario window which now allows players to join all scenario queues in their current tier at once.
  • In order to promote realm and population balance, some realms on some servers will now award their players with a +20% bonus to renown and experience. This is not a permanent bonus, but rather a temporary incentive to promote balance. Realms currently offering this bonus are marked on the server list with a colored icon; blue for Order and Red for Destruction - Check the Herald for the latest list!
  • In response to player feedback, we have made several improvements to the behavior and responsiveness of the siege weapon interface. In addition we have fixed some issues with the control and release processes of siege weapons.

"While in scenarios, players will no longer be able to select "Need" in their loot windows unless their career or race can use the item being offered. Please note: players of a lower level than required by the item are still able to roll."

Single greatest addition to the game to date. Grats Mythic for pwning item hoarders, and greedy babies.

Yeah, its good stuff, and before the complaints come in, this is ONLY for scenarios.

only fixes one part. I can have better armor still and roll need for sell fodder. So a step correct but not like you cant still get pissed when someone rolls need.

Even if they did add something that checked what you were rolling on vs what you had, what would decide if something's a need or not? Someone could be collecting tanking/dps/healing gear that they wear only in certain situations, but need none the less so that they can keep up in different situations. Someone might not like that +17 Toughness and decide that the +10 Weapon Damage is better, even if it's less points. Levels don't decide it either, since I've replaced higher level gear with lower level gear before.

You'd see far too many people complain about being forced out of a roll, and the fact that it was Mythic's fault that they lost out, not another player's. So I think what they're doing is a nice step in the right direction.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving this game but the release quality does seem to be a little poor. WoW had it's problems when it started, but I think WAR has out done it and that's a shame and surprise coming from Mythic.  What I'm really building up to is ... why?  and ... How effective was the beta testing?

As soon as I started playing (EU CE head start) I found a ton of bugs and I still manage to report two or three a session at least.

So either the beta testers weren't really testing very well OR Mythic was ignoring bug reports (because they were still working on actually developing the game, perhaps).

If it is the former then I am starting to think that the beta testing approach that these games goes through is flawed.  What seems to happen is that people just use it as a chance to play for free and in advance of everyone else.

If it is the latter, then I have basically paid to be a tester.

Either way, the situation isn't ideal.  I would be really interested in hearing from Mythic with regard to this and perhaps especially keen to see some statistics, .e.g what was/is the bug reporting rate, what was the fix rate, re-open rate, how many duplicates have been raised since the game went live and so on.

Mythic has a chance to come clean and share their processes with the world while at the same time setting the standard for the QA release data of future MMOs.

Cheers,
Brindy

* I use WoW as the comparison because I played WoW in Europe from day 1 also and it is the currently the biggest, most popular MMO and thus the measuring stick for all other MMOs.

Current MMO dev teams = Keystone cops.A pure comedy of errors, sadly its not as intentional.

Didnt they try the same population balance "fix" in DAoC ?

The scenario fixs seem like a good start, on that front.

...

In the preview weekend and open beta I reported around 50 bugs and sent around 50 feedback on things that should be improved, many others did as well and some were issues that were known for over a year. Mythic has a list of all the problems and they have a priority system about what gets fixed first.

Why isn't it polished more than this? Money of course, and time. Wrath of the Lich King is being released very soon and Mythic was stuck between releasing the game early to not directly compete, or polish it and launch 2-3 months after WoW. If they had chosen the second option they wouldn't have sold as many boxes and the game could have tanked. It was a business decision, probably from EA

Sad thing is, they got owned by Blizzard anyway when they announced Wrath of the Lich King was gonna be released nov 13th. They announced it the day before Warhammer launched and completly overshadowed it.

Just thought I would add that in the final patch notes this scenario only part has been changed. It is now also a group option you can turn on for PvE. Good stuff.

Actually, wow was much worse on bugs.  There were server crashes all over the board.  But, to be fair it was *almost* excusable in that Blizzard had never done an MMO before, compared to Mythic's DAoC prior to Warhammer.  But, I have to say that Warhammer had a *really* smooth launch and open beta compared to a *lot* of other MMO's.  By far the best launch I've ever experienced was LotRO, to the point that it *spoiled* me :P.  I recently played AoC, and believe me when I say it went from bad to worse.  Another poor launch was Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (although, there have been so many improvements in the game that it's really became a diamond from the lump of coal it started out to be).  Now, I'm speaking from a North American point of view and have to say that Warhammer was one of the best MMO launches I've ever experienced.  I currently do *not* play the game (wow-player here, both wife and I), but I am so happy/glad to see that there is an MMO out there that can *really* provide some competition.  Competition is a good thing, forcing companies to always want to improve the game.  I hope for the success of both MMO's (WotLK and Warhammer) so players of both can enjoy their games.

By the way, all you that play Warhammer please ask Mythic to include a tanking class (plate mail/shield) for the Empire and Dark Elves.  It makes it so much easier to complete those PQs when us healers can heal without drawing aggro :P.

Peace.

The important thing is that mythic listens to the players and try to fix things and make this game better. Ofc will take some time, but as long as they keep patching, I have the confidence this very good game will be great in the near future.

Yes they had many bugs because they had to release early for marketing reasons, but this is real life for you. What matters is their attitude to the players and not ignoring the requests. On that front, Blizz failed miserably.

What will be the decisive factor for ultimate failure or success will be the end game IMO. WoW has endless item grind, WaR wants to offer endless open rvr, sieges and so on. If they manage to do this and keep some population balance, fix few more bugs, then they will draw away from wow all the non-raider, non-grinder, non-item-slave type of people (which is a very good thing if they manage to do it).

All in all, competition is good for us gamers!!!

Great patch

Hated it when people ninja looted in scenarios.

Also outside of scenarios the party leader can select an option to stop people needing when they shouldn't so this is excellent news.

Playing wh love the none interuption of trial by pain, may actually use it now.
