I know that sounds silly, but my lady is having a kid and i'm probably going to have to drop a lot of games but i'm looking for something I can do to where i could stop for a moment if i had to, i guess getting into warhammer is out of the question, too much pvp attention and if i stopped i'd make my team lose XD, so it'd have to be a PVE game. iw as thinking EQ2. I played it a bit and enjoyed it. Current MMO: EQ2/Rift |

Once you have a kid it's no longer about what you want. |

Maybe you should consider Ultima Online. Make sure that you put hiding in your character build and you're pretty much good to go. Ultima Online 98~04 |

i myself would stay off video games unless they are games where i can jump in for a good hour and play before the kid wakes up or something. Your a father now, the least of your worries should be video games. BTW congradulations |

This is not a flame but the baby needs you more than you need a video game.

No offense to other posters but much of the time you spend with a newborn is simply being close and holding them. Hours and hours of rocking, for example. The interaction is limited at best Playing a 'mindless' game while doing this is not necessarily being neglectful and contrary to much of the opinion here most mmorpgs are mindless. |

I would think it's hard to fit both kids and game into your schedule. Kids require a lot of attention. Babbies require even more attention. If you want to play a game I would play something single player where you can stop easiy if you need to do so. |

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
You can jump into a senario a little bit for PvP and then there are PQs that you can do for PvE. You can also participate in a keep siege as a tag along. ------------------------------ |

Are you kidding ??? You forgot to mention, feeding at all hours, bathing, changing diapers, doctors visits, colic. You can interact with babies. They grow quickly and need interaction with their parents. Get a clue.

Set the crib next to the computer. You can play a game casually and play with the baby at the same time. The little thing takes a crap? Go over to the changing station and change it. Whines for food? Go get some food. You can alternate between playing the game and playing with the kid. Multitasking isn't impossible ------------------------------ |

EvE online - you can drop everything and warp away at the drop of a hat. You learn skills while offline too. Go slowly and you should be ok. |

I'm sure he is talking about a game that he can pick up when baby is asleep or resting and drop when baby is awake. |

"Easy" only equals "better" for crack addicts and MMORPG developers. |

As a father of 5 kids myself, I can tell you from experience. Mostly just play PvE games...pretty much any are fine. Raising childred is a full time job, but still, reguardless of what many here say, you still need some time to do your own thing as well. Just give yourself a bit of a break from MMOs for a wee bit till everything is settled. After that you will find time for gaming n family. |

Actually, having a newborn is what first got me playing MMOs over 10 yrs ago. My now 11 yr old daughter was just a few weeks old when I decided to try out UO, to have something to occupy myself while my daughter was taking her naps. At first it seemed like a good idea but I soon began to realize that I would rather take naps at the same time my daughter was because I rarelt got a decent nights sleep due to the newborn child always waking up to be fed. Now, some kids will sleep throughout the night and if yours is one of those kids then you suck :) I also tried to keep the house clean at the same time and that was tough as well. If your new baby is like the majority of newborns then I would say to take naps with your child first, then work around the house second and if you then have enough time left over then try a very casual MMO. I wouldnt choose a single player game as a first choice because you will need some time to talk/interaction with grown-ups(instead of alot of baby talk) and I would think that a MMO would be the best bet for that. WAR seems like a good choice. Alot of people run around in that game solo but you also have the chance to do Public Quests and PvP scenerios which last maybe 10 minutes each. I would also try to join a family oriented guild as these guilds can be a great place to get parenting tips from the other parents in that guild as well as people to just chat with while you are adventuring. |

Thanks for that bit of venom and self-righteousness. What else should I expect on these forums? I have a child. When he was colicky he would sit in my arm half asleep or asleep and I would sit up late at night reading forums or playing simple games while rocking him. I can do without your gaming forum parental advice and that condescending tone When you have 2 hours of sleep for a week sometimes anything to keep your mind going is a good thing and gaming/surfing can be worthwhile. |

I have 4 kids, the oldest is 10 and the youngest was born on September 16th. I get a chance to play in the evening after the older kids go to bed and between feedings for the baby (3 - 4 hours). WAR works well for my limited play time as I can pop in and do a PQ or two, or run a few scenarios, or hit a few quests. |
