http://www.kotaku.com.au/games/2008/10/03/kotor_mmo_reveal_coming_this_month-2.html KOTOR MMO Reveal Coming This Month According to two separate, British sources, BioWare and Lucasart's Knights of the Old Republic MMO will finally have its first public showing later this month. CVG say it's "set to be 'officially' unveiled later this month", while a writer with British newspaper The Daily Star let slip that they're off "next month to file an exclusive report on the game". Promising. All that's left to do in the meantime is wait, and while waiting, build yourself an intricate series of overblown expectations that the final product can never hope to live up to! |

If you listen carefully you can hear the SOE viral marketing machine spinning up. |

Yep, sounds about right for Kotor to be announced. |

I think SOE losing a monopoly on the StarWars IP for MMOs can only be a good thing for everyone. You know, our whole country used to have just one telephone service provider, and not that long ago. They were just downright nasty to people from coast to coast. Price gouging, horrible customer service, outright hostility or indifference to their customers. (I'm sure there were some exceptions, but this was the tendency.) Then one day the government just decided that having a monopoly on telephones was a bad thing, so they made it illegal. Well competitors sprang up overnight. Suddenly, prices started coming down and customer service began to improve. Amazing... Yeah, I like the idea of another StarWars MMO very much, for a bunch of reasons. |

Yeah, I'm old enough to remember the AT&T breakup altho they're up to some of their old ways again. (AT&T buying out Southern Bell) Is it a monopoly SOE is losing or an IP? I could be wrong but just adding up the small clues. |

Just do not expect it to be similar to SWG pre-cu,cu or even NGE, no deep crafting, no player citys or houses...it will be all story and combat, they said they are not making a world simulator, so basicaly yeah just like Kotor but online, which for me is just blah kotor was an awesome single player game but does not fit as an MMO at all in my opinion, SWG is the only MMO i even cared to play beause it was so much different than single player offline games. |

Originally posted by permanent1 I'm actually fine with all of that. If it's a Star Wars game that isn't tainted by SOE I'll play it. Of course I'd prefer a pre-cu type game but I've come to accept that nobody is ever going to recreate that game. |

While I agree,. one should not expect Pre-CU SWG, I have no idea where you get the information that there will be no Player Cities or Houses and how deep/not deep the crafting system will be.
They said they are not making a world-simulator, sort of, but how does that relate to housing and crafting? |

I'm with pdxgeek on this one, I will play anything KotOR sight-unseen just because it's BioWare and I know it will not be sandbox |

It certainly could be interpreted that way. I'll have to agree with you on this. BTW anyone know if DC is going the RMT route? |

You can read a lot about their plans including this statement right here: (its about 1/2 way down) "Just because you aren't paying doesn't mean it's not PTW." - Amaranthar |

I dont think it will be a KOTOR mmo i think it will be star wars and that they will bank on a KOTOR single RP somethime in the future. But i think without a doubt not to start any fight so dont start a fight just saying i believe it wont be KOTOR-O. I think it will be something clonewars-bby or after endor. And just maybe faintly something around the KOTOR timeframe but not that area exactly. But im guessing it will be clone wars-BBY era.
Not to say i like that era i would love it to be GCW era or right after endor blew up but beggars cant be choosers. |

Here. Games For Windows interview with Rich Vogel, Gordon Walton, and James Vogel. It''s a couple of years old, but those are the guys at the top and they're still there on the same projects. Specifically: "GFW: And what of player-created content? Player-built cities, player-run businesses, that sort of thing? RV: There'll definitely be an economy in our game, like WoW. But is our game going to be a simulation? No. Our game is an entertainment experience. JO: If we're going to create immersive, epic stories that are believable, that really goes against having a simulation-type world. Those two things don't go together well." No sandbox, No Pre Cu, Pre NGE or anything similar....and look for a big ol perma ban for any vet that dares open their mouths on the forum.
