I have to agree with you on this one. I have been in beta for over a year now and a member of the forums since early 05.

You will like it or hate it, that`s all i am saying.

 @Paradise2 :

Think you're right there- esp true for newbies like me. Its nice to try it before you commit yourself to paying for getting further into the game.

I'm not sure I understand why people think that a F2P starter zone will ruin the game?  Many other games (including EQ2, Vanguard, etc.) have F2P starter areas ("islands") which you can play to your heart's content, so long as you don't leave the island...

That concept didn't ruin those games.

(Granted you may not care for EQ2 or Vanguard, but not because of the newbie island... probably because of some other gameplay mechanic, etc.)

Personally I think this move is brilliant.  It allows gamers to try before they buy, thus avoiding the inevitable backlash that you see in other games when you plunk down $50 only to be sorely dissappointed (leading to the inevitable forum whinefests).  With a F2P, try before you buy model, nobody can complain that they got ripped off.

The difference is that in those games you will never need to return to the starter areas at higher levels. Gold spammer with free accounts will be able to spam anyone in those areas. Unless drastic measures are taken to prevent that. The risk is real.

I think gold will be worth very little in this game .... there is very little to spend it on. There for it remains to be seen if it will be a problem.

To be perfectly fair, with the amount of fun that I have been having in war lately, probably would have never even paid attention to this one's release.  Now, at least, I will give it a try.  Free is good, yes, very very good.

That is what I always thought, until someone mentioned the possiblity of spamming for other games in Spellborn.

Is that wise? You run the risk of having to play a better game than WAR. Better not touch it.

Apparently they are going to have 3 free months for you to play the game though. So theres plenty of time for people to decide if they want to play the game long term or not.

There are too many games coming out for them not to offer a f2p "trial" bit to their game. People are getting sick of paying for a new MMORPG just to have it be another EQ1 clone.

For the life of me, I cannot think of ANYTHING bad about this.

So the makers feel confident enough in their game that they are willing to let it sell itself. They aren't promising the world, only for you to get angry and dissapointed when in fact they dont deliver.

You play it, if you like it, you pay for it. If you dont, buh-bye.

Too many of you are just whining for the sake of whining.

I don't "get" the whining either... most of the complaints seem to be that f2p means gold spammers will start cluttering the newbie areas.

Boo hoo? That just screams for more admin / GM involvement... I hate all these companies which basically just abandon their servers to spammers and botters. Acclaim can surely afford to devote a person or two to go around stomping them out. In shifts (remember many of these could be azn sweatshop "gamers"). As repetitive jobs go, it's a darn sight more cushy than, say, menial labouring work.

-

Can't be about money either. I've played a couple of fp2 games: on average, people spend WAY MORE in those games compared to subscriptions. In one game alone, upgrading one item to the "best" levels costs on average USD$300. You don't notice since you do it over time. That's easily 20 months' worth of $15 subscriptions, close to two years. That's just ONE item. On AVERAGE. Players have admitted to spending way more, thousands even.

If I were a publisher I'd be freaking demanding f2p. The minor costs of hiring a couple of goons to remove spammers from the game would be inconsequential in comparison. Hell, throw in a "report this person because he's (1) a bot (2) spamming" option, and you'd literally have the players doing most of the work for you. It's pathetic how most MMOs don't even have as basic a function as that.

I dont know if anyone has caught on but this game is NOT F2P. The starting zone is F2P, which is good, buy it play it see if u like it , subscribe and be able to get out of the starting zone. Its just like EQ2's trial of the ISLE, and VG SOH 14 day trial, its free but you can't leave a small zone.

This is prolly the same reason the game is being pushed to the christmas market.IDK there thoughts, perhaps they feel ACCLAIM will give them a little more notoriety,i doubt it,most people already have heard of this game.I think all it does is like  i said bring on a partner who is thinking only money and wants the game out NOW.I suspect a very short beta with very little changes, this game WILL be released unfinished.I think they have learned enough to at least not admit anything and just remove anything that won't be ready, they will use the Blizzard mentality and tell you nothing, what you don't know can't hurt you.

There selling point is there combat system. To me it does not sound all that hard at all,i would say the AVERAGE user will have most of the combos memorized to fit there play style within a few days.FFXI's RENKAI combat system took some players years to figure out and some NEVER totally understood it but merely memorized some chains/combos.They also talk about this games AI,it is just simple scripting, there is no such thing as a thinking mob,but at least it sounds like they did that part well.I for one want to see if there words are true and the combat system is HARD to master and very challenging. That alone would give the game some credibility.I never did hear about the AIMING aspect and LATENCY issues,we will see.

I don't see ACCLAIM having any impact on the game play at all, they are just there to help marketing and hype,IMO they are taking on more overhead that won't do the players any good at all. This game wil be pushed,it will take a couple weeks to hear the first reactions of players that got over the initial intrigue of a new game to get some honest opinions.Nothing that is leaked out from the first few days will have any merit as every new game seems amazing to players for the first few days maybe a week.

As long as Acclaim doesn't tag Game Guard on the NA release version, I really don't care about the starter zones or levels, or whatever, are f2p.
