WoW is not the best mmorpg, there is no best mmorpg but WoW is a very good game, better than some of the games that have been on the top rated. Even mentioning WoW is good even on the WoW message board on this site you get blasted. So whats wrong with it that makes every one hate it? |

Wow is a great game. However, it's not a very good mmo. It is shallow and very repetitive. |

I think it's because WoW is the big dog, most subscribers of any MMO ever, excellent (albeit somewhat elitest) endgame, and diversity. But mainly I think why it is attacked is because of it's size, when you know that there are more than enough people to defend something, why not take potshots at it? And I'm not saying this as a WoW fanboi (in fact I enjoy other MMO's much more than WoW) I just think it's how people react when something gets so big. Originally posted by neodavie Its entirely due to WoW's community. As you say yourself the "elitists" are quiet full of themselves in WoW and they will go to any lengths to help bolster their ego. Whether it be immature bashing or just plain rudeness toward other players. It's a Jeep thing. . .

I'm inclined to agree with you. And I have to say after playing and enjoying WAR as much as I do I have to say I'm fearful of their community becoming similar. Not saying it will happen, but I'm just throwing that out there. Originally posted by GTwander: How are you an MMO? Or any of us for that matter? Because its always cool to hate something that has mainstream popularity. If WoW was only liked by gamer geeks it would be embraced and loved, but since it has such a diverse population of casual gamers and young and older players it's not l33t enough so everyone says they hate it to seem cool. Just like every other game that gets too much hype. There are plenty of people on here that would only be happy with a game if it was so complex as to become unplayable to over half the gaming community, then that game could be cool, but just for a little bit. |

theres a lot of people on this site consider themselves as hardcore mmo fans. some of these people see wow as too simplistic for thier tastes . personally i loved it when i played it . i think they tend to forget not everyone has the inclination to spend hours each day playing an mmo . to each his own . |

What I thought was ironic is when I posted on the World of Warcraft site forums to come to mmorpg.com to check it out, rate games, etc. all the responses were like, "that site sucks! So many pop-ups, ads, and fanboi bull..." *sigh* I think it's a community thing perhaps...like politcs. If you are one than you hate the other. Not sure why it's gotta be that way. World of Warcraft is a great grame. There are other good games as well, but spend more time on this one than the others. I don't have to justify why nor care what names I'm called. http://www.allaboutgod.com/ |

I gotta do the McDonalds fast food thing. Just because McDonalds serves over 10 million people each year doesn't mean its the best/healthiest food for you. Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL! |

It's not really hated on this site. You can say you like WoW here without getting flamed. Many sites would resort to flaming said person. There's something to be said about other companies copying WoW's gameplay model and claiming it as theirs and pretending they are innovating. I think that's what most people don't like to be honest. I don't think it's actually WoW they hate. |

Hating WOW makes you look cool and knowledgably. Another reason is the difficulty of expressing the nuances in your opinions in a forum. The first reply to this thread is a clear example of this too. Basically most people can't go beyond the "fanboy-troll" dichotomy. |

I actually don't have a problem with anyone being a "fanboi" or fan of anything. If you like something, great! The problem is when a person is such a fanatic (which is where the word fan comes from) that they must bash and destroy everything else with irrational hatred. Likewise, in trollification (new word), the person doing the trolling is seeking merely to destroy to puff themselves up to place them above everything else in their own little world. There's no great accountability to what people post and say so they can be as rude and vile as they wish so long as they don't "cross the line" according to the mods. Many people like to tests the limits, to see how much they can flirt with violation being that there's no real consequences. http://www.allaboutgod.com/ |
