First of all let me start by saying that i have only played the beta for 3 days before the launch so much have (hopefully) changed to the better by now.

But those few days in the beta was very disapointing IMO. Here are a list of things i really din't like about the game:

  • All the bugs! (I know it was beta, but only 3 days until the retail, have they really made it?)
  • I had high expectations of the design and the graphics but got very disapointed. The graphic engine was okey but was working bad. The design was also very disapointing. It was too much random stuff everywhere and i din't feel like the develpoers had any structure when they created things in the world and puted them into place. (Like in WoW or Lineage II)
  • I expected smooth controls as in (ofcourse) WoW and even though it's better than many other MMOs, it's still way to stiff IMO. I'm just annoyed over things like this when they HAVE a game that shows how the controls are done right.
  • The character customization. Why does so many game suffer from this problem! Who doesn't want to feel unique and how hard is it to create a few more diffrent looks! Jee.
  • Maybe not a bad thing for some but for me the interface have way to much big buttons that could be much better placed (The meny at the top of the screen, WTH?). And once again, i don't like the design of it.
  • I had high expectations of the quests and even though i only played to level 6, the quest i had done so far was medicore and some where really lame. (Ex when you shoot with the cannons in the beginning... A desperate try to make something new. To bad it sucked) I don't know what they did wrong because the dialog is often prety good, but even so, i don't feel anything for the quests. They feel so heartless for some reason.
  • The "i r orc" language. It's just a pain in the ass and it hurts my eyes when reading it. (No i don't feel more like an orc because the developers can't spell)

Don't get all worked up now

WAR may be awsome in PVP and i really have played it way to little to out judge it yet. This was only my first impression of the game and unfortunalety it was a bad one for me

If all you did was solo quest to level six, you missed the point. And if the orc language seemed arbitrary too you, you obviously now little of the IP.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

All valid if somewhat misguided opinions.

1) I bought the game friday. I've played probably 6 hours a day since. I have not run into bug. I'm sure they're there but i haven't actually experienced one. I've done PVE quests, PQ's, PVP Scenarios and Open world RvR. No bugs.

2 & 4) You need to understand that graphically it would be impossible for the servers to function in 100 vs 100 RvR with bloated textures and customization. I was doing open world RvR which i'd say had probably 50 v 50 last night and i had 0 lag. I'll take the models and textures with perfomance like that. That was with ballistas firing fire pots and arrows too.

3) Controls seem fine to me. Copied straight from WoW. I guess it's a matter of taste.

5) I'm sure there will be custom UI's out soon.

6) The quests are no better or worse than any other PVE game. The one that makes you shoot cannons is meant to show you how siege equipment weapons work. The PQ's are pretty awesome if you ask me.

7) if you don't like Orcs play a different race?

It's a bit funny because i clearly said that i just wrote about my first impression of the game and i don't see how you can whine about that? But then again, some gets mad because you have a diffrent opinion than they have...

Level 14 with my highest and nothing changed since level 6 and my early review.

I guess we're too spoiled by playing Wow. Stopped for 2 days.

Tonight I still logged in for about 10 minutes but the scenario didn't open (on a high EU server Order - name Bekan as a RP btw). OK I made the mistake to take the lvl 8 character, but the zones in that range were empty. 4 guys searching for PQ's each with 1 or 2 members.

Ran into a "hero" on my way to the flight path via the rails:  --- dead.

Logged out.

In my game I can go to a BM and have a BG in 2 minutes these days (clustered BG's).

I think the low population per server will be a really bad problem for WAR.

But still : have a nice stay in WAR.

I'm not really coming across too many bugs.  Not much dif. then any other stable launch.

Not really sure how the gfx engine works bad.

Every piece of the UI can be moved.  Mythic did an excellent job of providing the tools needed to customize the UI to the individuals liking.  I appreciate the effort put into it, I don't have to download a bunch of addons to make it work how I want it to.  You can also scale the UI.

No idea what you mean about the controls either.  Controls feel exactly the same as wow.  I actually think the animations are considerably better.  My character looks connected to the ground beneath him, something I've found annoys me in some other games, and the engine responds correctly when I move my character around.

You didn't like the orc speach huh?  So if the devs put it in on purpose and you critisize them for not being able to spell, what does it say about your litterary genius.  I never point out spelling errors in post, mine are some of the worst around, I just couldn't understand the insult you made about the devs when you obviousely haven't managed to master english yourself.

Okay, to be fair I wont flame you for your post.  However I will mention as a first impression its usually better to make it passed level 6, especially since the classes really start to bloom 11+.  I think people are upset at your post becuase your giving a very very early first impression, without really playing much or traveling past the Greenskin Area.  And that part with the cannons or siege weaponry quests i thought were alot of fun myself.

You obviously haven't played a game at launch before. This is the smoothest launch I have seen yet.

As for the UI,try using the ingame UI editor... {Mod Edit}

  • All the bugs! (I know it was beta, but only 3 days until the retail, have they really made it?)

The amount of game breaking bugs was reduced considerably from previous phases of beta. Overall I haven't run into many bugs and the ones I have encountered have been superficial in most cases. I'm curious as to what you are seeing.

As has been said already MMO's walk a fine line between Pretty & Performance. They can make the game look absolutely stunning, but the moment you walk into a heavy dose of RvR action the frame rates are going to take a nasty drop. As far as design, are you addressing all zones in general or specifically the Orc starting areas. The only reason I ask, the Orc aren't known for organizational skills. They build as they go and have a habit of tossing up forts and defenses anywhere with trees to cut down. The Orc areas I felt reflected this mentality very well. On the Dwarf side of things, the starting zone is designed with the grand nature of the races craftsmen in mind.

  • I expected smooth controls as in (ofcourse) WoW and even though it's better than many other MMOs, it's still way to stiff IMO. I'm just annoyed over things like this when they HAVE a game that shows how the controls are done right.

What do you mean by stiff? I have played since closed beta so I may be sense blind, but the controls feel the same as when I play WoW.

  • The character customization. Why does so many game suffer from this problem! Who doesn't want to feel unique and how hard is it to create a few more diffrent looks! Jee.

What portion of character customization did you find to restrictive or limiting? Players can change the hair, facial hair, face, scars, eye color, hair color and accessory for each Race. On top of that, in game every class as unique appearing armor. In addition the armor can be dyed to create more versatility.

  • Maybe not a bad thing for some but for me the interface have way to much big buttons that could be much better placed (The meny at the top of the screen, WTH?). And once again, i don't like the design of it.

The default layout is simply that. Under Customize Interface the layout editor allows you to reposition every item on your screen. In addition you can alter the UI Size making everything appear smaller. This can be done without any 3rd mods and pretty much allows each players to customize everything to their liking.

Not to much to comment about here. Beginner quests are supposed to give you enough background to understand the race your playing. Personally I thought it was cooler as a Dwarf to collapse a mine tunnel, and eliminate a horde of Greenksins with a cannon versus retrieving mail or running hot chocolate to a NPC before it got cold. I definatly feel involved versus the standard kill 5 wolves, kill 5 Boar starter quests found in other MMOs.

  • The "i r orc" language. It's just a pain in the ass and it hurts my eyes when reading it. (No i don't feel more like an orc because the developers can't spell)

The Orc language is a very large part of the fluff. Quest objectives are very clear in cases of trouble understanding the simple dialogue. If reading the Quest fluff is of importance I recommend moving to the Chaos or Dark Elf pairing. All the quests are designed to be done by any of the Destruction races and moving to those pairings costs around 50 brass. If you do 2 or 3 of the starter quests or kill a few monsters you will have enough to move to another pairing.

Don't get all worked up now

WAR may be awsome in PVP and i really have played it way to little to out judge it yet. This was only my first impression of the game and unfortunalety it was a bad one for me

I'm not attempting to flame or dismiss your experiences. I simply am curious about the aspects I mentioned and provided some information that you might not have known about.

1) I've come across a few bugs. Nothing game breaking, though. As far as launches go though, this is probably the smoothest one yet.

2) What do you mean by "too much random stuff everywhere" exactly? It's a warzone. It's not supposed to have structure.

3) I don't see what's so bad about the controls. Maybe it's because I haven't played WoW in a while, but they're identical to that.

4) Eh. I kinda wish there was more too, but when you're covered up with armor it makes it all pointless.

5) Use the UI editor(little wrench icon at the top)

6) The quests are normal PvE stuff. Hell, it's not even the main focus of the game. The cannon quests at the beginning was just there to show you how siege weapons worked.

7) That's how Warhammer orcs talk. Personally, I like it.

This.  This one thing alone will keep me from playing War, just as it kept me from playing WoW.  And it was the one thing the kept me playing CoH/CoV.    And yes, I know there's lots and lots of  armor and crap that will make your character look different.  But there is a big difference between designing your characters look as a means of self-expression or theme, and having your character look a certain way because... well, that's the best armor you can find.

I know most people don't give a damn.  They just wantt o play and don't care what they look like as long as it's "kewl", but some of us actually do give a damn and seek more from these games than just gris for the number engines.

  • All the bugs! (I know it was beta, but only 3 days until the retail, have they really made it?)

The day before open beta ended they introduced a new patch that fixed a huge number of the problems people were having.  I've played many MMO's at launch, and WAR is -- bar none -- the most stable with the fewest major bugs.

That's personal opinion, which I respect.  My own feeling is that the world is very well laid out and feels a lot more real and alive than WoW does.  But that's just my opinion.  As for the engine working poorly or not, I've had almost no problems with it.

  • I expected smooth controls as in (ofcourse) WoW and even though it's better than many other MMOs, it's still way to stiff IMO. I'm just annoyed over things like this when they HAVE a game that shows how the controls are done right.

Things are smooth for me.   But of course, everyone has different systems.

  • The character customization. Why does so many game suffer from this problem! Who doesn't want to feel unique and how hard is it to create a few more diffrent looks! Jee.

Are you a 3D artist?  If not, then you're talking out your arse on that one.  For the record, I am a 3D artist, and it's very complicated for any sort of dramatic differences.  Facial textures are easy, but have minimal impact farther away than a couple feet.  Same goes with things like facial morphs.  Body morphs are harder, since they also affect every single piece of armor applied to the character.  Also, morphs require system resources, and the designers obviously felt it was more important to get more players in one place without killing the engine than getting some more body shapes into the game.  For the record, there is a lot of customization that is actually distinctly noticeable on your character.  You can dye your armor with primary and secondary colors.  There are MANY armor styles.  You can add trophies to your armor, etc.  And unlike WoW, putting on a helmet doesn't give you a haircut.  If you have long hair, it will stick out from under your helmet.

  • Maybe not a bad thing for some but for me the interface have way to much big buttons that could be much better placed (The meny at the top of the screen, WTH?). And once again, i don't like the design of it.

The UI is the most customizable out of the box, without addons or special programming of any MMO I'm aware of. There's a Customization button at the top of your screen. You can scale the interface as a whole. You can move and scale any part of the interface. You can affect windows as a group if you choose. There's a lot of power, and it's easy to use.

The whole reason for the siege weapon quest there was to show you that siege engines actually do exist in the game and give you a chance to use one immediately.  This encourages later exploration, because RvR areas have siege weapons and they can make a significant difference.  If you didn't know about them, you wouldn't even think to use them.  (Thanks to WoW for that one.)  For the record, I've found some really awesome quest lines in the game.  Ultimately, it's the storytelling that makes a difference with quests.  After all, there are only so many things that mechanics allow.  The flavor text of WAR is exceptional.

  • The "i r orc" language. It's just a pain in the ass and it hurts my eyes when reading it. (No i don't feel more like an orc because the developers can't spell)

I do agree on that one.  It would be nice to be able to turn that off and read normal language.  Oddly enough, some people love it to death.  There's even an addon that turns everything into orc-speak.

Don't get all worked up now

Or they're just telling you that you're stupid for saying how a game really is by the 6th level. I did the same thing and was wrong on many fronts, but at the same time I was correct on others.

Anyways, 'all the bugs' that you encountered... What were they? I randomly tried to bug myself out but that didn't work for me. How many bugs did you find? I think my crew has found one actual bug and I think you're talking more about nuissances instead of bugs. At level 6 you are not able to encounter 'all the bugs' so I'm pretty sure you're just talking about some things you heard.

Your trollerblades and education need a bit of retouching.

Would you write a book review after reading the first 3 pages?  If so then you are a special person and I want to be your friend.  If not, then apply the same rules to other things in your life.  Like game reviews or anything where you are putting your opinion out for others to judge.  Say... telling someone what you think about skateboarding before you can do an olley, or reviewing a brand of skateboard on your first night of riding it.  I know skateboarding right??!?  Well it applies to everything in life.
