Im thinking about playing WAR but just dont know too much about it yet to make a decision.  I enjoy WoW and with the expansion coming I just dont know what to do.   I just dont know if there is enough PVE content in WAR to keep me happy. I like raids, quests, dungeons and to pvp when I need a break from PVE.  Please tell me how the PVE, PVP, and ingame community compare to WoW.

WoW is a more PvE oriented game with the PvP confined mostly to a few BG's and arena.

WAR is a more PvP/RvR oriented game while PvE is still decently good.  The thing about WAR is you can level by PvP or PvE and the best seems to be a mix of both.  PQ's are pretty fun, and have some neat interactions.

Anyway it's hard to say.  A lot of non PvP'ers have found themselves loving WAR, but you never know.  Honestly it sounds like you should wait for the expansion since PvP isn't as important to you.

that is a good question for me i did not play WoW longer than a month at a time (though i have tried to at least on 3 different occasions)

WoTLK will be implementing alot of stuff that WAR have (since blizzard decide to copy it, no am not bashing just stating a fact). WAR also have a good pvp and RvR system. There is no twinking or over poweredness (just hope no one replys with "oh order does not have enough healers and tanks"*see note1. i really dont know what to say but that i like WAR 10x more than i like WoW.

Note 1: they have enough tanks and healers, healers need to heal the tank when they give them guard and tanks need to learn how to use hold the line and guard, and when people see a tank use hold the line (the tank should really shout out he is using it) people need to stay behind the damm tank, i raly see destruction players move foward pass thier tanks. this is at least on Skull Throne.

I only played WoW for about an hour back in beta, so I can't really give you a good comparison. However, I can tell you why I like WAR :)

Plenty of PvE. I've not tested this theory, but I can see how it could be possible to hit level 40 without even seeing an enemy player. The storylines are often hilarious.

Instant action. You can easily go PvP if the mood so takes you. I see a lot of posts from people complaining about scenario queue times, but I've never waited for more than a few minutes. I personally find it more enjoyable to go out and PvP in the RvR zones with friends. More of a thrill IMO.

I know there are more reasons, but they're the only two I think could be relevant.

There is WAY more PVP and RVR opportunities in WAR than WoW. WAR gives you some of the things that WoW does, their are mounts, queued PvP areas, and an AH.  You really have to try the different classes out and see what they have to offer. The most unique one I think is  a warrior priest which is  a warrior healer but is meant to heal which people don't really understand.  But anyway, the leveling system, in my opinion, is A LOT better than WoW. You don't have to quest grind to gain levels at an efficient rate you can do plenty of things and there are public quests that always restart *instances* and you can get different rare items from them and IGM (in game money). I've played since last friday but I started a new character thats a level 6 but thats as much as I can tell you about the game so far. Just play, you'll have fun.

Changing MMO's when you are not burned out on the previous one is a plan to not last 30 days in the new one.   You will play it comparing everything to your old game and the new game will usually come up short.  So unless you can join War expecting to take a look and go back to WoW afterwards, it might not be a good idea.....

  • Warhammer provides a more diversified experience during your journey to max level.  PvE, world RvR and scenarios (battlegrounds) are all equally viable ways to level your character.
  • If you don't like PvP in WoW because of all the ganking, you're likely to enjoy the PvP in WAR due to the balance systems.  Someone who goes into a PvP area that's a tier below him gets turned into a chicken.  Also, someone who goes into a PvP area gets his existing abilities scaled up to 3 levels below the area's max, unless he's already that level or higher.  For example, if you're level 1 and go into a tier 1 RvR area or scenario, you'll be bolstered to level 8 since tier 1 content is for levels 1-11.  In short, you can participate effectively.  I personally avoided almost all PvP in WoW, but love it in WAR.
  • You don't need to wait for max level for raid-type content.  PQ's are like mini raids or dungeon bosses, except that you don't have to spend time hunting for a group, and you don't have to invest hours of time.  They give great rewards, and feel pretty epic.  (Ganging up with a bunch of random folks who happen to be in the area so you can fight a dragon or a tree-toppling giant at level 4 is pretty darned cool.)
  • End-game raiding isn't designed as a gear grind, and it's very unpredictable.  That's because it's built around the RvR system, which means you don't know in advance what tactics will be used.  More challenge means more satisfaction.  But really impressive RvR stuff actually happens already in tier 2 (out of 4 tiers), with assaults on keeps.
  • Guilds are much more meaningful in WAR.  They level up, with abilities that unlock as this happens.  (Taxation system, guild bank, guild-only auctions, calendar, heraldry, standards, guild tactics, communal guild hall, officers' hall, etc.)

There's more, but those are the big points.  As a player who has leveled a half dozen characters to 70 and had been really looking forward to WotLK, I have now cancelled my preorder for that game and may never play WoW again.  I just find that WAR has more depth and more fun from day one rather than playing one game (which is pretty much only PvE) from levels 1-69 and then another game (which is mostly gear grinds) at level 70.

One word of warning, though:  WAR uses a different leveling paradigm from WoW.  It will take until level 11 before you have really encountered all the mechanics that go into the leveling and combat systems.  You don't get your first morale ability until 8 and your first (PvE-granted) tactic typically comes at 11.  Mastery training also starts at 11.  You get your core abilities during tier 1 -- the stuff that defines each archetype.  Tier 2 starts expanding into crowd control and other "gotcha now, sucker!" abilities.  It's sort of like how a Hunter matures in WoW; you can't just assume from the first few levels that you know how the class plays or how much fun it will be.

I would say, buy the game and try it.  There really is no sure way for any of us to know if a game would appeal to a person unless we know the person in real life and know their likes & dislikes.

The WarH PvE is not good.  Not good at all... think Might and Magic III.  Hmm, maybe not even that good.  Anyway if you are coming to visit WArhammer for the PvE, save your money.

Quests?  Hmm, don't come for the quests.  They are Pizza Deliveries.  Run between two points (If you get lost don't worry, you can't, the zones are very tiny, less than two minutes to cross any of them, the ground is carpeted anywhere you can walk, the direction has a lighted trail and the map location is in highlighted bright red)  - Click the Glowie thing/pop Mob X number of times/Touch the Base and run home.  There are no quests in Warhammer.

The dungeons are... well they are more like fruit cellars.  You can hardly ever be outside the sight of the doorway, they are linear and basically tubes.   Think digestive system with no exit.

PvP?  War was made around PvP and nothing else.  It is a multiperson large scale arena game.  The 'servers' aren't actually real worlds per se, they are  arenas restricted to a few hundred players and basically a repetative arena team-pvp thingie.  I don't get the draw to this, but some of the kids seem to like it.

So give it a shot, it isn't a very complex game and the graphics are quite poor, so it is stable and easy to run on anything more powerful than a toaster oven.

Its launch seemed to be have caused many yawns, none of the stores in my area sold out of their copies.  Give it a month and I will bet the price will fall a little as they try and grab some population before the Xmas season.

The best comparison with WoW can be with a huuuge AV. PvP and PvE are mixed verry well in WAR, but  I think high end PvE will not be similar to the one in WoW, becasue it will be mixed with PvP, so you will relly on the PvP players.

I'm not shure if there will be pure PvE high end content.

It just depends.

if you're into your neck with WOW (raids, epic flying mount, etc) WAR PVE will be a let down.

Our WoW PvP is more player oriented (more CC): be the flashy hero to rescue the princess (flag). Theirs is more group based with not much CC and to me a bit boring.

But just buy it if you want to.

The only things I hate is that most WAR players just bash on Wow without arguments (:)). XXX sucks etc ...

A lot of War players do hate Wow for various reasons (old DAoC, tired of it, lost arena too much etc...)

In the end they will ALL buy WotLK. So go ahead perhaps you'll even like WAR past Nov 13th.

To the first quote:  Did you realize that there are 12 scenarios?  One of them is a capture the flag scenario and when you capture it 'Destruction Flag Was Captured by 'your name here'!!' flashes huge across the screen.  Only it has a really cool twist to prevent turtling.  Over time as you hold the flag you start to slow down, lose defense, and eventually you lose the use of all skills besides morale abilities.  It plays out a lot like Warsong Gulch but honestly is a bit cooler, and the anti turtle thing works really well.  I know you didn't play much but you should check out the 12 scenarios.  They are really well done, and if Blizzard looks at them maybe they can learn a thing or two and incorporate some of their elements into some new BG's.  All of the scenarios play out very differently.

To the second quote: Oh so this is worse than WoW fanboys coming to WAR forums and spreading misinformation like 500/500 server caps as fact to back up their WAR bashing while at the same time promoting their most favorite game?

Not to mention Stonetroll Crossing, which is another capture the flag with big twists.  The flag is in the center of the map, on top of a spire.  Once captured, it needs to be taken to three places on the map, which you have to use successfully.  Points are awarded for each, and more points for all three.  But if you try to take your time or turtle, the timer will run out and the flag resets.  If you try to camp the top of the hill waiting for the flag to reset, then as soon as it comes available you'll get bombarded by boulders from the nearby trolls, knocking you off the top.

This scenario is probably the most fun I've seen anywhere.  It's all about fast, smart play.  The groups that break into mindless hordes and just PvP anything in site lose.  The groups that play as a unit to keep the flag carrier moving at all costs are the groups that win.  And anyone who claims there's no crowd control in WAR has obviously never played this scenario.  This one is all about slowing down or stopping the flag carrier, and slowing down or stopping the enemies that are trying to interfere with him.

Like with character progression, scenarios are an introduction for Tier 1 and then move to more complex stuff for Tier 2.  I can't wait to see Tier 3.

Yeah Stonetroll Crossing is insane.  I really like the Mourkain Temple also which is basically just a death match but the team holding the relic(flag) gets more points for kills.  For as simple as it is it can be ridiculous fun as well.  I am excited to see tier 3 scenarios too.  I am about to hit rank 21 so I will be at them soon.

Oh yeah.  The Tier 3 areas are awsome.  The textures and environments rock.  So far the dwarf/orc pairing seems like a desolate wasteland in the south zone, and the empire/chaos pairing in the north is like a demonic snowy mountainous area.  Very cool zones.

You are incorrect in saying that you can level in PVP or PVE. PVP levels cannot exceed your PVE level until level 40. You MUST level PVE in order to level in PVP up until that point.

You can get rank 1-40 regular by only PvP'ing.  Scenarios, killing players, and even quests involved in RvR areas of which many are repeatable and involve killing players rewards as much if not more than PvE experience.

Any action involving PvP awards both renown and experience.  PvE only rewards experience.  I am very correct.

Also you can use renown training to get a skill that increases PvP experience from players, and one to increase gold dropped from players.

No you are incorrect. You said you could do either. You can't do either. PVP is tied to PVE level so you MUST level PVE. Just because you can level PVE in PVP doesn't mean that you can do either. YOU MUST LEVEL PVE TO LEVEL PVP.
