The ugly truth of MMOs and especially pvp based MMOS is the rampant cheating in these games. WOW a victim of its own success cannot keep up on all the cheat mods, programs, and gold sellers. Its basically why i dont play WOW anymore. PVP cheating is why i dont care for it. Its just a givin that people buy or sell gold and things and flown the white flag. Its why it so hard to know if a person is really good in pvp or just a good hacker, kinda like steriods in sports.

Now, Im hoping that WAR has a good program and defense against hacking and mods. Just needs to be addressed early and harshly. Its sad that people feel the need to cheat just so they can have some sort of eliteness in a computer game. I know pvp is fun and important but it also brings out the worst in people it seems.

I want to see WAR to succeed. I just dont want in a year down the road a game full of cheaters and gold sellers. We as a community can help by reporting suspicious behavior and gold sellers.

Heres to a long productive and fun run for Warhammer Online.

Kinda sad i see this topic just after receiving a gold seller tell.

I really hope they implement a spam filter early on into the games lifecycle

^ just report it

For cheating to deal with that they have punkjbuster which the mods can enable to look at paticular player..

Ah I'm drunk and I'm in the street like a vagabond.

Yeah i got 2 tells today from gold sellers.  I just wonder where they got the money already to sell.  I knew a kid that bought gold in LOTRO I gave him so much shit for that.  I just don't know why anyone would want to spend real money on fake money. lol

Simple. It's much more time efficient to work IRL and buy the gold, than spend all day farming it. Even if you do work min wage.

Gold sellers will always find a way around the systems and what not. It's just a fact of life. I personally don't care who buys gold. To each their own.

I dont buy the argument that gold spammer are just a fact of mmo games.

Theres a way to stop them, just no one has really cared to think of a easy way to do it, other than have someone on 24/7 on all servers with their fingers on the ban button.

I will say, if you could make a program to stop gold farmers you would probably be a billionair fairly quick.

And i don't buy the argument that there's a easy way to do it. I'm sure developers aren't just like, "Meh" to the whole gold farmer issue. Players are annoyed at it, and i'm sure it affects their business in some way shape or form for the worse. It would be a good business move to get rid of them asap.

It's just that every time the developers find some way to deal a blow to the gold farmers, they just come crawling back like cockroaches. They are very resilient.

I never said there was an easy way to do it, i just said no one has thought of an easy way to do it.

If people where smart enough to make bots so uncontrollable, people are smart enough to stop them.  Im positive that whoever can create a bot/gold farmer defense that they would make tons of money protecting mmo's.

You said:

" just no one has really cared to think of a easy way to do it,"

The "no one has really cared to" gives off the impression that you're insinuating that the no one really cares about stopping the bots.

Often times it's easier to break something than to try and fix it. Take piracy for instance.

DRMs? No use.
PSP firmware? Yeaaaah...right.

Nintendo's r4 chip? Nt sure how you'd go about stopping that aside from kicking down every door, and grabbing the chip from the kid's dead, cold hands.

It's much easier said than done.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but while I was playing on pheonix throne tonight I received a few gold seller tells.. a few minutes later a message appeared on the screen with that person's name and a little IC message saying something about how he can be hunted down by players. I thought that was pretty funny. Seems like they're letting players go after gold sellers.

Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV

Can he still send out whispers or tells while dead? I don't think having a bloody corpse on the ground will prevent people from buying from him.

Also, I don't think that people buy from the gold spammer, they gold spammer usually tells them who to get it from. The gold spamming account will most likely be banned, but the farming account should be hiding nearby.

Still should be fun to kill the spammer though. :p

My post is mostly about hackers and cheat mods that let people warp, be invisible, things of that nature. You can be the best fastest honest pvp player on earth, but when going up against someone using illegal mods, the fight is fixed from the start.

Gold buyers and sellers are bad but they in the long run dont ruin pvp as much as illegal programs and hacks. A good pvper can beat someone in good gear if the battle is based on skill versus skill usually.

The gold people just lose out in getting the gear  with a good story and knowing it was job well done in a quest.

That be awesome if they flag them and let us hunt them down with an IC message. That would be a whole other new game mechanic they can introduce.

Yes, open season on gold sellers would be awesome! With the ability to fully loot their corpse.

Uh, for what game are you talking about?

I know that there is no such mod out for WoW, or if there is,......

The way to stop gold business is to ban people that buy it.  full stop.

Games companies rip us all off becasue they change the rules of the game to make more $.  You wouldn't accept rule changes in the middle of a game of football so why to mmogers accept it in games.

Game advancement means nothing if it is changed to make things easier or harder so all advancement and achievement is relative even though a lot of players dont accept that and are gullable.

Even read the thread i started? i said a year down the road. I didint say it was a problem now. Just alot easier to stop it early. Shame on me not wanting a good game like WAR to fall victim to gold sellers and cheaters.

I'll admit to buying gold. I dont care if people dont like that. I just cant see wasting what little free time I have on grinding for gold. Its not fun. So, instead of doing something not fun, I'll spend 5 or 10 bucks for a quick infusion of gold to keep myself afloat. I make more than enough money to cover multiple accounts in many games, I just dont have the time to waste grinding.

If companies were serious about stoping the gold sellers, they need to change how the economy works in games, or they need to sell gold themselves. Those are the only 2 ways to end it the spam, but you will never end gold buying.

But hacks and cheats, need to banned on first offense. They do that enough, peple will not risk it.

If you want an example of a MMO whose devs take combatting RMT very seriously, check out FFXI. RMT was rampant in that game for a time and it drove the in-game economy to the point where it was driving people from the game. Items that usually went for 400k were going for 3 million plus. Items that usually went for 5 million were going for over 20 million. It was absurd.

Square took it seriously, created a "Task Force" that does nothing but chase down the RMT, finds out whatever they're doing to get their money, bans the ones doing it and implements systems to combat it.

The task force aren't GMs. They are a separat, dedicated team that does nothing but track down and deal with RMT. And they do it aggressively.

Among the things they've done is to change some in-game systems and the status of certain value items that drop so they couldn't be monopolized by the RMT farmers;. They added mobs that patrol shorelines specifically to deal with fish-bots, and so on.

Every month the Task Force reports how many accounts were banned, what the focus of the bannings were and how much ill-gotten gil (gold) was removed from the economy.

Does it work? Well, remember that 400k item I mentioned earlier that went for over 3 million when the RMT was at its worst? It can now be bought for under 300k. Square have driven some RMT companies entirely from the game.

So, yes, I'd say it does work.

Basically, I think the key is to be pro-active. Not merely reactive. Don't sit back and wait for something to happen and then deal with it. They need to take it seriously, dedicate adequate resources to it and relentlessly stay on top of it.

They will never completely remove it from the game - RMT is too profitable. As long as there are players who want to buy their way through the game instead of playing it, RMT will always have a reason to be there. But Mythic can keep it under control, if they want to.
