All this talk about WoW killers just fukn baffles me. Nothing is going to kill WoW. Not all gamers are mindless sheep who will give up playing a game they like to go and play one that might be the next most popular mmo. Did anyone seriously think that WAR was going to be such a huge success that every gamer was going to say "Shit, everyones playing WAR now.. I must fit in and allow myself to be assimilated into this mmo. Goodbye WOW.". Blizzard - "Oh well, thats it, WAR's stolen some of our players. We may as well give up on WOW, start shutting down the servers..". If Ultima Online, Runescape, EQ are still running after all this time, what the fuck are the chances that something is going to kill WOW. Fanboi retardism ftw. |

You do understand what people mean by kill right? If you weren't so literal you would have noticed they meant that it would be the game to remove the majority of WoW players, not completely remove the game from existence.
Anyways, what do you think people did and are doing in WoW? Mindlessly killing the same mobs over and over to grind faction because it's so fun. Mindlessly being robots and constantly killing the same boss mobs over and over just to get an item to make themselves stronger because the game involves no other way to advance characters aside from levels and items.
But see, if games don't put up an incredible treadmill the people will not run in it. Other games that allow customization and alternative ways to advance their character don't do as well because it requires thought and planning. All you have to do in WoW is do the best dungeon majority of the time and you can instantly become stronger than anybody else despite their real player skill and time put towards fighting other players in PvP for instance. And that's the problem - People don't want anything but scripted fights that they can master. Not their character... No, that would involve player skill, they just want to read a guide and complete an instance that required no thought of how to overcome. 90% of the guilds out there read guides and complete instances like it's some sort of challenge. Hahaha, it's just so pathetic.
You're right though, nothing is going to kill WoW.

What is pathhetic is the game makers. Humans naturally like the feeling of success. Finishing a mission, getting an item, killing something others think is hard creates a good feeling in people. What we need is a company willing to take the time, money, and imagination to create a game that redefines success that is not a grind. We need a game that had multipile ways to get from beginning to end game. A game where all levels of play can do and succeed at all levels. Eve captures this in come ways, but fails in some also. A first level character if the moment is right should be able to kill anyone, but it should be more difficult. Success should be in the players hand not in the hand of the designer of the game and how much you grind on their tredmill. |

i dont think many people really expected a wow killer . to be honest wows too popular a game for there to be a wow killer for many years to come . what will happen is new games like warhammer will come along which will slowly chip away at the blizzard regular monthly subscriber base . i fully intend to return to wow at some point and play it again but with warhammer about as well i ll proberly alternate between the two (not forgetting lord of the rings as well ). i think you ll find like ultima online warcraft will reach its tenth birthday and still have a pretty good user base . this is nt the end or warcraft but it is the begining of the end of warcrafts dominance of the mmo market . i would expect to see a few server mergers in the next year or two and a drop of one -- two million monthly subs . quite signifcant but wow is such a popular game it can easily survive such loses . |

Noone wants a wow killer ... when do the silly billies start to understand that? We just need more healthy competition in our genre to keep the dev's working overtime for us. Blizzard will only move it's lazy behind when there are new exciting kids on the block just like WOW inspired companies to make great mmo's as well. So the mere existance of WAR is actually doing the WoW fanboys a big favor. |

If it contains the words video and game, it must be a WOW clone. |

To OP: If you really like WOW, get a room with it. Why don't you leave us WAR fans alone? |

It's nice to actually have PvP though. WoW players have 0 reason to stay on WoW if they aren't raiding. - - - |

ROFLMAO. Would you please do everyone a favor then and figure out some way to give all of us who bothered to READ those hundreds of posts, the untold minutes of our LIVES back that we LOST, while we were reading those "non-existent" posts from WAR fans stating how WAR was going to "kill WoW?" Oh sure....no one has said that LATELY, because the game has been released, and it's now VERY obvious, as many of us who have played both SAID, that the games are nothing alike. People that like WoW are NOT going to leave it for WAR any more than they were going to leave it for EQ2, EVE, CoH, or AoC. Sure, some will go TRY other games, but if WoW is what they like....they'll return. It's happened every single time a new game has been released. And some of us crazy people....won't leave WoW to play other games....we'll just play more than one. (Not sure why this doesn't cross most peoples' minds.) And THAT doesn't take any money away from Blizzard, it just gives some to another company TOO. That doesn't add up to "killing" WoW. But it could add to Mythic's success, and WoW's CONTINUED success. For godssake there are still people playing the original Everquest. People play what they LIKE, as well they should. Afterall...they're paying to play. And no matter how "awesome" anyone thinks one game is over another, what it all boils down to is that very simple fact. People will play what they enjoy, AND....not everyone is going to enjoy the same things. I doubt that you would argue THAT, but I'm sorry...I had to laugh at the "NONE of the Warhammer fans thought" comment. A whole helluva LOT of the "Warhammer fans thought," apparently....or else they were just what....posting to further hype the game?? President of The Marvelously Meowhead Fan Club |
