In other words. He resigned because of differences of opinion on the direction of the game. It seems he'd rather leave than fight an up hill battle against the other muppets in Funcom whose choices are responsible for the turn out of AOC *cough* redoing the combat system year out for release *cough*, trying make it for xbox360 and Pc *cough* which resulted in age of instances *cough*. You've go a read between the lines on this one and all is not well at Funcom. First rat has jumped the sinking ship. |

Good riddence to bad rubbish. The decision and change in leadership won't make me resubscribe though - doesn't matter who is piloting this manure wagon, its still going to stink. Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. |

I'll expand a bit for you. The news of GG leaving brings mixed response, I liked the initial direction he took the game, I liked the idea's he had over the years of AoC's development. I didn't like the direction the game took after release and to some measure the way things were in beta for a while. When I take the news of him resigning, I am taking it at face value as in I am accepting the way it first looks or seems. This is because after pretty much seeing everything and reading everything the guy has said over the past 4 years with AoC brought me to this conclusion. So initally I am taking the news at face value, but thats just based on the official comments and not potentially anything else that may arise in the future. I wish the man well, I saw his interaction with the AoC team first hand and appreciated his idea's he had. Its a shame they didn't all come to fruition or that what some of the dev team brought to his attention didn't really get the attention it deserved in more detail. Being in charge means you have extra consequences and responsibility, taking the news at face value is reading it that he does this and therefore wasn't happy with the outcome (reasons unknown). I can accept that he accepts this viewpoint. As long as it's convenient to you. I never hear you complain about GG and the direction of the game. Now that hes gone, you didn't like the direction it was going after release and during beta.

I just take the news at face value. If news about the PvP patch and many, many other multiple updates to go by on all major forums across the net, its a huge hit. Just like the republican party, you confuse me here. On one hand youve been saying all along that the game is a good game etc... Now that the game you so honorably defended has lost its game director, you are saying this is also good.... reminds me of John M... someone Oh and the PVP patch, you mean the content that was promised ON THE BOX, at launch in MAY? Its mid september, lets not forget that... -Lum |

John M is lying when he says he is happy with what was done the last 8yrs.. but if he outright flamed Bush, he'd never win. You have to kiss butt to get elected.. JM has to kiss the right's butt for now. Once he gets elected and declares he isn't running for re-election.. watch out Bushies :) If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. Scroll of Rez gives 7 free days, boost a character to 80 a realm and faction change. Send me PM for an invite. Only 1 per day available |

Speaking of 'hits', I think a company takes a huge one when the Co-Founder / Chief Dev / Designer leaves the Industry like he's running from a Gas Station fire. |

I wish the old forums were still up, I could of linked to quite a few questionable approachs to the game design from interviews with Gaute I was vocal on. I also did challenge him with PvP looting ideas in the community videos in January - he asked me if I thought it what was most of the community is into - I told him exactly what everyone here was saying on these forums at the time when we wasn't sure how things would pan out. Then went on for 2 days on and off. They should of looked at the bigger picture more. So the game releases and barely anything changed from when I was playing it back then in terms of PvP - we asked for something like blood money, we asked for a form of looting... and then it wasn't until Athelan and others worked on the initial basis of some intriguing systems that we see coming into the game just now. The direction was a poor choice, AoC followers knew when WAR releases it would bring more people to PvP, AoC fans knew Darkfall's promises sounded not too bad on paper, AoC fans wanted and asked for something a bit more. It was something that didn't make it in the game fully fledged, it was something that was promoted as a key point. To feel let down by this was an understatement. For me it didn't turn out too bad, just an area that could of been something more. Moving forward, we have our system coming in. Moving forward we have lots of new fixes happening and many, many improvements. Moving forward I feel that 80 % of the classes are balanced for PvP - and thats a big leap over what it was. Moving forward I am enjoying the game even more and feeling like its worthy of a sub. looking back Gaute did steer the game in some very decent directions too.

Avery: Going forward WAR will be a mjor blow to the remaining AoC subs. Going forward Darkfall is going to be a major blow to the PvP crowd in a lot of games. Going forward, AoC still is an empty hand-held world lacking content in critical areas. I enjoyed AoC for a week. It offered no risk and my heart never sped up one time playing it. The game was a major disappointment. Anyone who pays to play a Funcom developed MMO deserves what they get from this point on. They have ALL been warned by now. Tecmo Bowl. |

As did I. WAR is no better. It runs a lot better, but the game itself is even LESS innovative than AoC. AoC and WAR are both epic letdowns, though I had much higher expectations of AoC. WAR is what I thought it was going to be. But my points still remain true. WAR will impact what is left of the AoC crowd. Darkfall will impact both of their PvP crowds. And Funcom is right up there with SOE as far as being one of the most despised MMO developers/publishers on the planet. Tecmo Bowl. |

Yes he steered the game into an Iceberg and sunk the ship. This game could have been a great game, but bad direction and management led it to be subpar at best. Since GG was a co-founder and the guy in charge of this game he was 100% to blame for its failure. Moving forward have you ever seen a new captain manage to save a ship thats already underwater?
