And this could certainly cause havoc with some firewalls if they're detecting a change, blocking the connection but not reporting or giving the user a chance to update permissions. What firewall are you people using? To wank, or not to wank. The ultimate MMO sacrifice. |

Every time your exe's update you need to re-add them to yoru firewall. In most firewalls even if it says that it's allready on the list. Ignorance is not bliss, but it;s sure handy to blame it on the game isn't it.

Seriously, it's your firewalls, either software firewalls, or hardware firewalls in routers and such will cause the "Critical Error". There may be other causes of it, but I have personally never seen them. That's probably why the game will work the 2nd time you load it up. The first time after any patch the firewall is not letting it through b/c it doesn't recognize the program, but the 2nd time it will let it through b/c you either gave it permission to do so, or it recognizes it as a non-threat. This has been happening for months now, it first started maybe 2 or 3 months before they started "guild beta". There's really no way around it, except to alt-tab out while the game is loading up and give the firewall permission to allow the connection (this must be done before the character-select screen comes up and starts trying to connect to the server), or after patching don't load up the game and manually go through the steps of giving the firewall the proper permission to allow the connection. |

There is a 72 page thread on this on WHA. It's happening to both NA and Euro players, some with and some without routers, some with hardware and software firewalls turned off, and a bunch of other different variables. Some people have resolved the problem with workarounds, others haven't been able to. I guess the best thing to do is look through the thread and see if there is something you can try to fix this. |

ditch your crappy firewalls just use windows its fine. ditch BT they are and always have been crap and go with o2 if they provide a service to your area especially if you have a 02 contract Im on o2's 16mb service for £10 a month completely uncapped unthrottled had tried to go 20mb but when they tested my line max it could manage was 15.7m so they rang me and told me they didnt want to rip me off so would drop me to 16mb. I have had no problems with them whatsoever in the 9 month I have now been with them get blistering fast download speeds wether http or p2p no matter what time of day and they text you to say when your bills coming out your bank all round fantastic service. |

Nope it is not. I put WAR on the shelf over this really annoying shit. And god knows I tried with firewall off, virusscanner not even installed, all other small softwares running upon startup removed... Everything. I don't want to bitch about it but I had to move on in fact to a different MMO. Just for the record the nail in the coffin for me was not this critical error but those rubberband laggs. |

each person is reporting several ways to fix it
Mine I did 2 things to solve the problem
1) Unplugged the router and plugged it after 2 minutes
2) called my isp and accused them of blocking my internet access and throttling the speeds they checked and sai all was ok at there end
Either way my isp did something or rebotting router helped try it out |
