Gotta love how these WoW fanboys are coming out of the woodworks making excuses. The fact is, WAR is going to have a bigger debut than AoC did and it didn't have the awesome graphics AoC had to lure them in either. That's quite the feat. It's all gravy from here since WAR will most certainly draw legions of people in when they learn how great it is compared to the competition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWdd6_ZxX8c |

How else do you think game developers sell their products? They don't sell directly to the consumers, they use retailers. Hence why the only way to measure sales is through retail sales.
Yes, but selling to a retailer does not mean someone is going to buy it. And remember, the developer gets about 20% of sales, the rest goes to the retailer and distributer. Mything will see $10 for every box sold to a customer. To put things in perspective. AOC sold 1.2 million boxes to retailers, of which 800k were sold to customers. They made 8M on the sales of boxes. I still think the game is very lackluster and clunky and will not keep a significant number of people once they reach lvl 40. If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. Scroll of Rez gives 7 free days, boost a character to 80 a realm and faction change. Send me PM for an invite. Only 1 per day available |

There's an interesting Poll on www.curse.com (bottom right). 70% canceling wow to go to war? Don't tell me the crowd voting on it is irrelevant either, because no one plays wow without addons. |

Originally posted by Satarious I agree but doesnt change the facts that your press release link clearly says shipped to retailers - big difference than sold to consumer
some people to this day, still think that AOC sold 1+ million copies - when Funcom only shipped that amount AOC sold less than 1 million |

Look, WoW troll. The press release says that they BROKE THE RECORD FOR PREORDERS MADE BY CONSUMERS. In other words, PEOPLE initiated those pre-orders. It may not have been 1.5 million, but the fact remains that EA broke a record for number of preorders made for the PC. The 1.5 million is just the total overall. It's still big news though since more people preordered WAR than any other game in their 26 history. Quit trying to find excuses. It's lame.
Correcting your flawed arguments is *not* making up excuses.
Here is another one by the way ... read very slowly .... it says it broke preorder records for preorders made for any PC game ever MADE BY EA.

Halo 3 sold 1.5 mil pre-orders as well. Halo 3 was one of the biggest games of all time and now WAR is right up there with it. Congrats Mythic!

A valid point has been raised against your post. The release states units sold to Retailers... That's not how many customers/players have bought/pre-ordered. You misquoted the release, and now you're trying to spin your way out of it. Trying to turn it into a WoW-bash or AoC-bash thread is basically side-stepping the real point. It's fine. No one's perfect. We all make mistakes. Just own up to the mistake and read more carefully next time. The only "fact" is that no one knows how well WAR will do 'til it's come out and has had a chance for players to play and make up their minds on if they'll stay. Will it have a much better release than AoC in terms of stability, etc? I'd say yes; though that's setting a pretty low bar, IMO. However, how well the game releases (as in stability, etc) doesn't reflect on how many players it will retain.

Not if that mouth is mine. I will tell the truth about this game. No significant amount of people are going to leave WoW to join WAR. They will load it up and see its the same game practically. Then return to WOW as WOTLK releases. I will be the one on these forums telling everyone of you I told you so when about the majority of your player base leaves after the first month to go back to WoW. WOTLK will take back the WoW players who are bored right now with BC and are like well ill give this a go for a month till WOTLK comes out and i wouldnt doubt if they are in this forum PRAISING WAR on how it plays and or looks. But when WOTLK comes out thats when you guys will find out who is your loyal WAR fans. I dont play WoW btw so i wont be going to WOTLK so dont respond to this saying no just u will.
I dont think anyone hre really gives a damn if a bunch of WoW raid loving Nubs come play WAR. There's billions of people in the world and several hundred million gamers and not all of them play WoW. |

I looked once into what it would cost to open a business and sell PC / Console games and when I saw how much they cost from the distributor and realized I'd only net 5 dollars on most new titles I said fuck it. Thats why Gamestop focus's so hardcore on selling other items to you besides just the game. They make little to jack shit on the games they make more off the guide books, controllers, memory cards etc. |

Uh.. point to me exactly where I made this supposed "mistake?" I said (IN MY TITLE IN BOLD LETTERS) that EA broke its own record in preorder sales for PC. FACT. Anything else you read into it is YOUR mistake, not mine. The fact that you're belaboring the issue makes me a little suspicious about your intentions. You seem a little too eager to rain on EA/Mythic's parade, as far as I'm concern. Can you say "stealth WoW/AoC fanboy?" Either that, or you're in league with this Pheaces joker. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWdd6_ZxX8c |

Once the dust settles, I think this game will be the number 2 spot, right behind WOW, unless something better comes along in the next couple years. |
