Posted this about being sick on another thread...it fits better here.... If one of my guys came to me and said, "Sarge, I really need to be off tomorrow. There is this cool new game starting and I would like to play all day" I would most likely say "go for it".
Problem is, most of my guys have "killed" their grandmothers, their spouse's grandmothers, had their families have Ebola, flooded basements, roofs leaking, pregnant wives having "problems", religious issues (one guy converted to Muslium when he found out about Ramadan).
Point being, Bosses know calling in sick is usually 50% just that. the other is what we call "Calling in Slick" |

This is the huge downside of capitalism and what it does to people. You're condemned for wanting to take some personal time to enjoy something major like a huge game release, or a friends wedding, or anything for that matter. Heaven forbid you not want to be a slave to the work place your entire life. Life is more than "working." Fuck corrupt societies. |

No, im not a boss. I'm at the very bottom, I have nobody under me, so you can't get any lower. I work as a ASP/.NET programmer. If you want to play a game, then say it as it is. I have done that a few times and my boss have always accepted that. If you just say it in advance you can always plan around it, so it won't hurt the company. You don't even have to say it to play. I just say I want that day off and he says "no problem". You are in serious need of "workmorale". You are the type of person who thinks it's ok to drink 20 beers on a sunday evening and call in sick monday. If you even have a job I'm guessing you'll be fired very soon, and the company won't be missing you, since you never do anything anyway. LYING IS WRONG... Nomatter who you do it to. (Unless you work as an undercover spy).
LOL dude yer probably at the bottom because the boss doesnt want you AROUND to ruin his fun by making him feel bad calling in sick when there out golfing. You even make bosses turn away with a stuffy brown attitude like that. playing eq2 and two worlds |

You will wake up one morning in 10 or 20 years and realize that life has passed you by, while you were studiously going to work every day and getting early nights to be bright and fresh at work the next morning. Here is a news flash fennec - noone cares if you work or not. Noone cares if you take 1 sick day or 20 sick days. The only person you should be concerned about is yourself, and enjoying your life. If you don't look out for yourself and make sure you are grasping every opportinuty to live life to the fullest, who is going to do it for you? Your boss? Wake the f*** up. |

And call in sick for once in your life. It's liberating. I'm lucky...I have 'no questions asked' personal days. As long as it's an hour before my shift, I don't have to give any reason other than, I'm not coming in...period!
*cough* I'm not feeling well tonight *cough*

Dear Airwren's boss,
Airwren is dead today. We're hoping for a resurrection towards the end of the week (possibly on Friday) but it could persist until early next week depending upon the availability of our local priest.
Thank you for your understanding and please don't fire Airwren as we need the money to buy cakes.
All the best,
Airwren's Mum.

I have a very full life. Probably much better than most people. I have a girlfriend for 2 years now and I'm soon gonna pop the big question since we just bought a house togeather. I play squash, I golf, I go to archery, I run and I play MMO's. I think that is a nice life. Oh, and I only work from 08:00 to 16:30. Fri only 08:00 to 13:30. Overtime is only a few days a month, and when that happens I meet later the next day. Im guessing you (and most other in here) live in USA. Don't you work for like 50 hours a week?? No way in hell would I accept that. I DK we work 37 hours a week (lunch not included) and get 5-6 weeks of paid vacation. Yes we pay 50% in tax, but all education and medical is free. We even get paid to study, but only for 7 years i think i is. We get from 1108 dkk to 5007 dkk a month ($200-900) depending on if you live at home and your parrents income. With that amount af worktime you have in the US I can understand why you don't have much spare time, but maby you should start working on changing the system, so you could get a better work environment, like we have in EU. |
