What do you think about the linear aspect of WAR? Like or dislike? This is the best signature ever. Well, it is really up to you to decide. :x |

I'd rather have a linear path to follow than having nothing to do. There is always RvR or public quests too, if you want other things to do than questing. |

Sure, positive thing is that it gets easy to follow, no need to get lost as there's only one path, but destroys the feeling of freedom which a MMORPG should have as a standard in my personal dictionary. This is the best signature ever. Well, it is really up to you to decide. :x |

Uh...and most mmorpgs aren't linear?? And if you're talking of sandbox style then the days of those mmorpgs are long gone..

Linear is good for awhile but the days of linear mmorpgs are almost gone, too many on the market and too many who do the exact same thing,no original ideas etc (not talking about WAR To make a run a sandbox MMOG takes alot of thinking and hard work to make it fun and addictive,SWG was a great exemple of what happens when you take a good sandbox and try to turn it into a linear game. |

Why yes. THANKS BLIZZARD! But no, I don't think those days are gone. There will be a mmorpg which offers freedom some time, atlhough none might be in development atm. The WoW craze hasn't yet faded. This is the best signature ever. Well, it is really up to you to decide. :x |

Warhammer is fine if you take it for what it is. |

Darkfall is aiming for sandbox, yes, or so I've heard. But somehow, I feel a bad smell coming from it. This is the best signature ever. Well, it is really up to you to decide. :x |

No they've been mostly linear since EQ released. Within the linear context developers have been adding more freeform content though. RvR is by it's very nature non-linear. The PvP side is pretty well fortified with non-linear content. The PvE side is unfortunately linear almost by definition even in sandbox games. Character development needs to become less linear but it causes a lot of balancing issues. "Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice." ~Greys Law |

Now there are people who claims that WoW copied Everquest, but I have never played that game so can't comment anything about that. I am not old enough for the Everquest days, as I was only 10 at that time. Not trying to say that WAR is a copy of WoW, but the gameplay is still somehow very similar, and both share the same level of simplicity. This is the best signature ever. I might've been spoilt by how fucking great SWG was, and it was also one of my early ones. Actualy SWG was my first MMOG aswell,it dragged me into playing them, tho I played it alot till CU and loved every moment, just loved the interaction while waiting for buffs in front of the SP or in the cantina or waiting for a shuttle, hunting for that rare meat soo chefs could craft those nice buff drinks and I could buy my new hammer! And no,I dont mean RP interaction, never RPed and never will in a MMOG.Only EVE can actualy reach that lvl of depht for me now, sure alot of people who like their hand held while playing wont like it,but it's greatly done and the devs are actualy playing the game and know how anoying the bugs can be and fix them promptly cause they bump into them aswell, plus free expansions just shows the lvl of support... come on we got a full graphic revamp, that's like remaking half the game. Sandbox MMOGs will always succed if done properly and wont die ,they will just keep growing, best exemple is EVE.. the only exemple that is.SWG would of being in the same tray as EVE if devs bothered to play the game rather then nerf everything instead of balancing. |

I hate linear with a passion, but I understand that the masses like it and therefore it's being done. |

Just to clear things up. The PvE leveling path is laid out linearly on the Tier maps. There is basically a main road that if you follow will lead you to content by chapter and level order. ("Follow the Yellow Brick Road"). However, you need to realize a few things. You can easily move to the zones of other friendly races, so you aren't stuck with your race's planned advancement path. You can skip content. In fact, in Tier One there is at least twice as much content per race as needed to out level the tier. So, if you want encounters to be challenging and rewarding, you will want to skip over content that is too easy for your level. You can also level doing Scenarios, PQs and PvP/RvR. You can mix and match this with PvE in any proportions you wish and still advance at a solid rate. So, indeed, the content is laid out on the maps in a linear fashion, but you have a lot of freedom in what you skip, which race's content you avail yourself of and what mix of content types you want to utilize. The problem with the sandbox is that if the devs dont put in enough content for players to do or add activities then the players will gather into spots anyway and your massive open world becomes nothing more then a waste of space as players just group up in certain cities and dungeons. I love the idea of the sand box but really it just doesnt work so we have linear worlds. Linear worlds can be great as long as each section allows freedom with in itself. What I hate are things like invisible walls or the gate taht cannot be opened until you are a certain level. To the devs I say make it linear but give me a feeling I have sand between my toes and dont try to prtect me from myself. O like how war handles this especially the fact that you can wander into a RvR area with out having to always warp there. There is a feeling of exploration and the slight feeling of danger. |
