Dont think we need to care to much about the hype-meter. Still, i think there is to many DF haters here anyway. People that just hate it. Even if they will play it later.

hm... they can't remove it now beeing nearly at the top. They'd just making a fool out of them when Darkfall really becomes a succes.

And the MMORPG crows hating Darkfall is obviously outdated. The Darkfall forums got nearly 50k new members (doubled their member number!!!) in 1 1/2 weeks). Sure, alot of the hype is created by Darkfall fans who were lurking there for longer, but I believe a huge amount of users here at the forums who changed their votes from 1 to 10 are playing a huge role as well.

Wether the idea behind darkfall is good or not, a game that hasn't been tested by the public shouldn't top games that have been tested for months/year, the hype meter should be more about previews than about wishfull thinking, and organizing an entire community to get the wishfull thinking at top will only create a feeling of fake hype, such as Shadow of Legend's, which, surprisingly, leads to the complete oppossite than intended.

The hype meter rating might be more relevant if there hadn't been an orginaized campaign over on the DFO forums to spam up (and drag down) the ratings here.

As such, the always suspect ratings are now even more worthless than ever due to the influence rendered by the mass effort.

DF is still an extremely unproven commodity at this point. Sure, its been tested (by who is the question) and is full of features (that haven't really been seen much, outside of a few video clips) and may or may not be bug free (a long development time does not ensure this)

Lets wait to see what is actually released in the open beta before getting too excited about the game.

(and yes, I intend to play DFO, I'm just being realistic)

That's bullcrap. The hype-meter is called "hype"-meter for a reason. It's not about previews but about how much hype the game has.

And you're telling us we screw the hype-meter up yourself not even knowing how to use it.

I'm a huge Darkfall fan but this is just silly.

It's been tested by 3-10 players and two even wrote reports about it (confirmed by Aventurine). One of them is a member of a pretty well known Clan (LoD). Besides, a 17-minutes long video doesn't come from nothing.

Of course a long developement doesn't ensure a bug-free game but it definitly increases its chances. The game has been in closed beta with professional testers for quiet some time now.

And why not get excited about a game before having 100% proof of its existence. After all, it seems like the only MMORPG worth playing/paying for since UO (and maybe Shadowbane)

DF has been dehyped plenty by fans of every game so get off your high horse.  If the fans bases behind other games in development were really more hyped up about the game, their scores should rise as well.

At the end of the day if you look at the "most popular" tab next to the hype meter youll see DF is getting more unique IP hits than most games lately...so its hardly just the official forumfallers. 

Like it or not there is a lot of hype surrounding this game, and the video just sent it even higher.

What is tasteless on creating a thread like this? Obviously there are alot of poeple who feel the need to discuss it.

The hype you talk about has no reliable base yet. There's hype, and then there is hype created out of nothing but words.

I hyped AoC with a 1 back in the day, cause I believe in players reviews, I don't believe in devs anymore and I can't be hyped by NDA protected betas. You're buying the devs word just like AoC fans did. MMORPG players never learn lol.

It is a pointless troll post and nothing more you arent doing it for a postive feedback but to get a negative flaming post going.
 

Just hype your game and underhype others couldnt care less but posts like "Whether you want it or not - Darkfall is coming!1"

The testing reports remain sketchy at best, wouldn't have been hard to fire up DFO at a more public venue and really show it to the world. For whatever their reasons, they chose not to.  Professional testers?  Every game uses professional testers, and since they have a staff of say, 35-40 people, this means that maybe 5-6 people have been testing it.  Not bad, but that's a lot of ground to cover for such a small group. (I work with professional testers, and can attest to the capabilities of the process)

I agree, the 17 minute video didn't come from nothing, and it went a long way to validating some of the claims made by Aventurine.  But even then, it doesn't guarantee a good game, that will have to wait till we get a chance to beta test it.

Nothing wrong with getting excited about a game.  But as an active EVE player I'll take issue to your comment regarding no MMORPG games worth playing since UO/Shadowbane.

But organizing active fan-based campaigns to hype a game, that's way over the top.  Play it if and when it comes out.
