Not to mention the wildlife in AoC, Wolves NPC's hunt hare rabit and deer. You walk near wildlife it runs from you realistically. There are more creatures that interact with the lay of the land in AoC, birds that eat dead carcass', fish in the water even. All these little things add up to more immersion for me. Other neat sound effects are like when your running across different terrain or on horse back the noise you make is different each time for each type of terrain you move on. In WAR is all the same, take a horse on go across grass, sand, rock or Ice in AoC and you will hear positional and difference in sound effects in war its the same noise all the time - there is no difference. This is something that I noticed a lot in War but took for granted in AoC. When I swim in the water or under in AoC its much different than in war where I felt my avatar had 5 animations for swiming and things didn't "feel" right there either. Warhammer might be more seamless, but I know if there is a boulder in AoC i can jump on it, through the elven tiers I found I couldn't in war. At the edges of AoC there are invisible walls, in war I found these all around me in the open world. In one town I could jump over the barricade by a river, but the barricade the same height at the front of of same town if i try to jump over it I hit an invisible wall in mid air. There are many situations like this I find in war where I don't in AoC - only at the edges of zones in AoC. War is about War, its everywhere, it accomplishes it's goal by giving you basic character models and basic landscapes to achieve this in higher numbers, thoughts on combat have already been discussed, but I can say in AoC you can have a 100 man sieges and feel crowded and part of visual and engaging experience with keeping decent animations, spell effects, environmental effects etc - 1 month ago this was not possible in AoC - recently its a reality for those taking part in these sieges. I guess finally for me the "feel" factor comes in when you participate in city construction. You actually help source materials and then build by hand. It's yours, you and your kin own it. It was not given to you, it was not just found miraclousy in the open world, it was made by you, formed by you, designed by you, looked after and repaired by you, it doesn't miraclousy reset either. It's not like one day it got destroyed and 5 hours later it's there perfectly formed again. Ownership gives more meaning and "feel" as its not only something you might of fought to keep but also something you look after too. These are just some mere points for me which I missed playing warhammer, it was enhanced in AoC in these area's for me. Warhammer has a good start, but really the set up is not so different its alien more like its different as in that relative you see every xmas, nothing changes everytime you see that relative they always look the same. You can walk into an area with all the same mobs in War, they will be generically placed out along a path, in AoC when you come to a camp and attack some guys on the edge of that camp, if your in the line of sight of others in the camp or if your fighting multiple NPC's one of them will run and alert the others either by running up to them or running to say a horn and blowing it and more will come to help even from far away - its a nice touch which adds to a more immersive, real feeling. Plus weapon swings in melee hit more than one character - now that is something I did miss.
You couldnt find a boulder that would let you jump on it in the Elven area? Strange I do it all the time.Invisible walls? More than AOC after the invisible wall patch? I will agree with the AOC audio being pretty cool when you turn your head and building a city giving you a sense of owning something in game but thats just fluff. Personally Ill take less fluff more fun any day. Reading the above it becomes so painfully obvious why you get under peoples skin sometimes. You make some OK points about AOC followed by untruths such as not being able to jump on a rock or that you just cant seem to find invisible barriers in AOC aside from the edges of maps. Or the mob AI being bland. You apparently havent gotten far because there are areas the mobs will come from a great distance to whip on you when you attack someone. It makes me question how much you have played it WAR and why you would want to compare AOC to a game that was obviously released in a much better condition than the one youcarry a cross for. Do you really want to compare the quality of implementaion of ideas of Warhammer and AOC one day after launch? You wont win that battle as Tortage will only get you so far.

I basically agree with every critique AA has made about WAR. I also agree when he says it's a well made game, it's just not my cup of tea. I believe for my taste AOC is a much better choice, simply because to me it emboldens atmosphere over vibrance. It could be argued vibrance is a good choice in creating a unique atmosphere, however it takes away from the lifelike immersive qualitys focusing on pure atompshere opens up. I don't know exactly how to pinpoint what turned me off in WAR. I will just say in WAR I knew I was playing a game. That's not bad by any measure.... But, the reminder it often screams at you that it is just a game, detracts from that wordly view I trully get from AOC. I feel as though in AOC I am free to make my own choice in what to do at a given moment, where I want to go and what I want to see is all up to me. I did not get this feeling from WAR. Not true at all, as long as players can reach you it's all good. It's only against the rules if you're in a spot you're not intended to be in, where you can farm players and mobs out of the reach of damage. The fluff you say is the not so great crafting system, but at least it lets me build ,learn how to, and have control over placements in a Keep area. I'm not joking when I say when I am in a zone in AoC there is not no where I can go, my limitations are are the edges of the zones and a quick load screen to the next, in WAR in the Blighted Isle, about 4 towns down, by the docks, forgot the name of the place, but there are 2 troll dudes there and its the first place where you can travel to diff tiers (load screen). Anyway, right there I can not jump over the knee height barriers and bound off invisible walls, I cannot climb boulders in the landscape there or small hill. Its pretty restrictive and I hate taking a forced run around. LvL 18 I made it too as a White Lion I think I experienced enough in terms of mob layout, behaviour and overall A.I. This area alone AoC is far more superior. Khanes Embrace was just a capture the flag map for RvR scenario, I get better minigames in AoC without 1hr ques. Regardless, I don't think you sub to either game, but thanks for reading my opinion.

You may need to contact Mythic then because you are the only person I have seen with this problem. I am constantly having to go after other payers on rocks much larger than knee high and do it with no problem. I jump the edges of fointains, fences and barriers all day long with no issues and yet you cant seem to manage. And as far as the queue I guess youve forgottten how long they were in AOC. Thats silly of me. Of course you havent forgotten you just wont say it. So you knock Khaines embrace and you were level 18. You didnt try tier 2? You didnt try other starting areas scenarios? Again I question how much you played with these views but i expect no less from you.

Oh my, reading this thread makes me feel like no one is actualy realy happy with ANY online game that is availible. Some games reach people expectations on one area, some in other, but there's no "perfection". So ppl who like "that" specific aspect vote for "that" game, and those who like "this" aspect vote for "this" game.... I personaly hate "clickers", also called "auto-attacks". It's just too childish, simple and stupid for me. I prefer to play with my skill over stats of my character and for this i like AOC among all fantasy games. Graphics IS important for same reason - i won't go beyond certain level because i can't have FUN then. You can spend hours telling me about bugs, crafting and other cr** i don't care about, but it just won't impess me. I simply won't play even perfect game if i don't like it's style of combat, graphics or design. AOC isn't perfect, but once you stop comparing it to other games (which then just is all about preferences) - it's pretty good, self suficient. It got story, it got combat, quest and stuff. If it was only MMORPG in the world - noone would criticize it. These are 2 different games with a bit different focus. AOC is more "presonal" while War is more group/faction oriented. And the last thing - notice what ppl who do not like AOC say - in the end it all comes to words "it's shit". Meaning - they just prefer other game over this one. Among all the cr** i heard about AOC - only 1/10 is true, rest is just up to tastes and preferences. Example (i have no idea hot to quote in existing message in this forum, sorry) "Plus the way the zones are set up in AoC makes it even worse, with having to go through one zone just to get to another. " - i do not agree, i think this is the only right way how it should be done - the realistic one. I hate when you can just jump to area you need. It also helps PVP. |

Just read through this forum a bit and you will see why 'Its shit' is not just a subjective interpretation of one person's experiences and preferences. With AOC's case 'Its shit' actually usually refers to a litany of cockups, broken game functions, bugs, crashes and god knows what else. This is in direct, objective comparison with games which aren't 'shit'. Some people say 'its shit' and mean 'I dont like it'. Other people say 'its shit' and it means 'objectively the standards of this games functionality in many aspects is below the standard that we expect from a new game in this genre'. When I say AOC 'is shit' I mean it in both ways. Objectively the game is shit when compared to the high technical standards of things like WAR and WOW to name the two most famous games in this genre, and subjectively I think the game is shit because I found it to be dull, shallow, tedious, lacking in content, incomplete in an extreme sense and unenjoyable. That better? If that's how you feel, that's fine. At least you took the time to pinpoint exactly what you felt was off with the game. Sorry I had to reformat your post to read it (take no offense). On the technical front and content end, this game needs a ton of work (even after fixing the leaks). I highly doubt you'll find many people disagreeing with you on those points. I disagree it's shallow, but it must be said I'm used to games that really offer no content outside of the content you make for yourself (eve, pre-cu swg, ryzom etc..), I couldn't get into the lead you around aspects of WOW (now WAR). At first AOC was like that (tortage). I'm glad I finished it up and found out the world game play isn't, at least where my play style comes into play. Mob xp is fairly high so I don't have to worry about venturing into town while grinding, I'll do an occasional quest when I'm bored of mob grinding. That's pretty rare though, I'm sure people into directed content will think my play style sounds really boring. Just try to understand that's what i'm accustomed to. I find quests to be a waste of time, unless they are really well made( single player aspects) AOC offers this to a large degree. My favorite aspect of PVE is through mob grinding groups (socialization) to bad more people don't do this in AOC. It must be stressed, I really only enjoy PVP. WHich I get plenty of in AOC, my favorite type as well 1v1 or similar small battles are endless on an open PVP server. TBH I couldn't imagine playing this game on a PVE server. Why would I take offense? Perhaps because doing what you did is supposed to be a calculated insult on my grammar? Sorry, but I'm not a big fan of tabloid style one sentence paragraphs. Ive had people patronise me on online forums about that before. I have a different view on it. I hate people who put a space between every single sentence so that the end result is that their entire piece is an unstructured mess. I will only paragraph if a paragraph is warranted within the context of what I say. And if you think that Im over-reacting, then ask yourself why you knew I would perhaps be offended by what you did? As to the content of what you posted, there is a difference between games that dont lead you around by the nose intentionally, and games that are obviously unfinished. By the time I got to level 45 in AOC I found that one simply had to do stupid 'kill 40 xxx' quests, or do the repeatable villa quests to continue levelling. The reason for this is simple. They did not finish the game. The content is there for other level groups, so your point doesnt really stand. People seem to be almost bending over backwards to defend this game against common sense. The game isn't what you say it is because thats the way it is supposed to be. Its that way because it wasn't finished. |

I included no offense to basically say, I'm not trying to patronize your style or one up you as you just explained. Oh jeez, here we go.. I gave you a reason why I felt the game wasn't shallow, nothing more. How in anyway is that bending over backwards to defend the game? I have no reason to attempt to defend any game. If you're saying it's shallow due to an unfinished state say so, you didn't. Had you I would not of disagreed. From a feature stand point I do not believe the game is shallow.Which is what I was referring to in my post. You would of figured out, I'm not big into questing so it's really no skin off by back. Edit- btw did you even read this part ? Yes I became so irrationally pre-occupied by the perceived slight on my sentence structure that I didnt really give a shit what you had actually written about the topic at hand. |

Oh dear another expert commenting on AoC... Man, probably the whole AoC community disagree with you on your statements above. I don't even wanna try to inform you on Patch 2.0 content... Why would I really if you played the game (or maybe you don't)... Dude, read up or log on. |

Of course the only way to know if its fixed in AoC is to play it now or ask God yourself. I can always put a video up of experiences in both games, then again playing perfectly working sieges is more fun for me (with everything else I have said in this thread)
I just couldnt help this but, ive never seen anyone shoot through walls or ever been able to shoot through terrain or obstacles or anything in WAR, ive seen you make several posts saying this and its utter crap. Sieges may be working great for you, and the few that can play them, when you can play them. In WAR today I did 12 sieges. |

Even seen the purple spells hitting me coming thru the wall itself. You know when you run around the back when both points are locked down and eplosion happens the big rocks there - bam, spells right thru them. Here is a map if you havent played it : pc.ign.com/dor/objects/748723/warhammer-online/images/warhammer-online-age-of-reckoning-20080915034131616.html This picture: http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/910/910296/warhammer-online-age-of-reckoning-20080915034048428.jpg Shows the camp - right behind the player there are barricades knee high you go to jump them as obvious you can and you hit an invisible wall and have to use the main front enterance and walk in. Please go see for yourselve im not making it up for the fun of it. Yes I am well aware as previously stated that AoC has mass bugs at release, just want to point out in war these two seem to be normal gameplay. The first issue is auto target where im targetted thru the wall or bolder and the game doesnt take into account whats in the way, the second is clear space and a clocked invisible wall blocks you in the middle of the camp. There are several other issues I have and I really do hope and I am sure they will get fixed up in Warhammer, just like many have in AoC. Thats nice doing 12 sieges, did you have to go out and get the resources to build them back up again / repair / craft? Fundamental difference between the two games - they are different. Oh I almost forgot - what about the loading screen after you die in War RvR scenario?? not that it bothers me, as its there in AoC - wonder if those same ppl made a fuss when played AoC do now in War?

I've said it before, but I'll say it again: you fanboys trying to compare AoC to first-rate games such as WoW and WAR is not going to bolster your argument about AoC, but only make you look silly. WoW is the number one game ever released for PC, and WAR is actually making a run at that. AoC, if it even survives the next few months, will never be more than a niche game. You found a bug in WAR and bring it here like that actually means anything; pathetic. The problem with AoC is not bugs, and never really has been. Sure, some people really get bothered by any bug they happen to come across, but if gameplay is good they may complain about it but they damn sure will keep playing. Nope, bugs are not the problem. The problem with AoC is that everything sucks, from economy to combat to itemization to over-instancing, just to name a few of the problems, the game is simply not that good, and never will be. Some games have it, some games don't. AoC don't. |
