They should be entertaining. Obama will wipe the floor with McCain. He is more eloquent, intelligent, and charismatic. But it's alright, McCain didn't graduated 894 of 899 at Anapolis for nothing

Unfortunately Debates are won by one-liners and sound-bytes instead of by good answers and good ideas. Remember: "Want some wood?"

Although these are important qualities, this isn't the reason that Obama will dominate the debates. Obama will win because he has invested time into actually learning and studying these issues and has a very broad understanding of the entire spectrum.

Conservatives have attacked Obama for not spoon feeding them specifics of his proposed policies, but they will be drinking from the fire hose when the debates start. Obama's platform is hammered out and soon to be delivered to anyone who was too lazy to seek it out. All McCain has is Bush reruns. It won't be pretty for McCain.

I beg to differ.  If the Saddleback meeting is any indication, McCain will out debate Obama because he seems to speak from his conviction.  Obama says what he thinks the voters want to hear.  That's why McCain gave clear concise answers at Saddleback and Obama seemed to grasp for answers.  Obama is a master in a controlled environment, he is way more charismatic and a much better speaker than McCain.  But he doesn't do nearly as well in an off the cuff setting.  That's why he constantly declines McCain's invitations to do town hall meetings.

From what I've seen McCain is a better debater. But never know, Obama could have improved.

And then Obama had the gall to say he would debate anytime anywhere.

edit...seen P-Diddy video on Glen Beck....someone should tell P-D he is not really helping the cause.

This is good news. We have been waiting for the past year to hear.

Not exactly. Obama wanted to debate McCain but his campaign decided that giving McCain free press wasn't the best idea. McCain will have to entice his own coverage instead of capitalizing off of the buzz Obama creates everywhere he goes.

At least now he has Palin to create buzz for him. Until the attention she attracts becomes a bonafide liability, that is.

Hmmm we must have watched two different forums. I do agree that Obama had to think out each answer and that McCain had the quick short answers ready. Of course, this is the reason I think Obama made McCain look bad. As for saying what voters want to hear.... I believe you have things mixed up. This was not a forum where Obama was giving the popular answers.

All Bush could deliver were one-liners. McCain is better than that. He is no where near as good as Obama on the stump, but he can certainly speak with something other than party approved talking points. Unforunately, McCain is willing to dumb himself down to grab the neo-conservative, and the Christian-conservative. I lost respect for him after he bent over for the same people who smeared him and his family and even his military service in 2000, now I just pity him. He is going to crash and burn on Nov 4th(No Pun Intended) and the last thing he'll hear from the men he sold his dignity to in 2000 and 2004 as they leave him lying defeated in the gutter is: "That's just politics, get over it.". He lost his self-respect and now he'll lose the election. This isn't the same McCain from before 2000... it isn't even the same McCain from from a few years ago, this is a weak man who will give up all the good he has done in the last 72 years of his life for 4-8 years as President. Personally, I wouldn't make that choice.

What will really be interesting will be the Biden/Palin debate. That is if it even happens. This will really test Palin's mettle to see if she can handle the pressure of major league politics.

While Obama might be a better speaker I think McCain is better at thinking on his feet.

Obama seems to be much better when he has a script in front of him while being in a room filled with like-minded individuals - that's why he shied away from the town-hall styled debates McCain challenged him to. He did terribly in most of the primary debates, whereas Biden, among others (he just stands out in my mind the most), did consistently well - not too good at "thinking on his feet," like another poster said.

I really hope you're joking.

Yes, Palin gets  alot of media attention, which might help the campaign if she had anything to say. Barack has used the media to draw attention to his policies, which is the only reason he still commands a crowd after 19 months of campaigning.

I think we'll see a much different Palin out on the stump. Just wait until the news correspondents get her cornered and start asking some tough questions. Then we'll see how she really handles herself. Or, we'll see her cry "sexism" and run away.

You have got to be kidding me - this made me laugh a little bit inside. The only reason Obama commands attention 19 months into his campaign is because of his "policies?" Neither candidate has provided a clear enough explanation on any kind of policy to warrant that. The only thing I've heard Obama talk about is how much "change" and "hope" he's going to bring to America. Now, both of these things are good, but nonetheless essentially meaningless when you can't back them up with real voting records and real policy stands. What about his economic policy? I have yet to hear any kind of comprehensive plan that will bring us out of our damning trade and budget deficits left over from Bush 43 - I only hear how bad McCain's plan is, and I only hear how he supposedly won't tax the middle class. Whoop-dee-doo.

There are lots of reasons why Obama gets the attention he gets, and his policies definitely don't play a major role - that much is certain.
