SOE needs to close the current game down and then totally change it so its a free 2 play mmofps because right now noone will play it because they don't want to buy it or pay a monthly fee. Planetside is old and people have a hard time paying a monthly fee for a online FPS no matter how many players it has.

I would really love to see it turned into a browser based game but I doubt we'd see that cause it would require too much money. However some advertising on FilePlanet with a new amazing trailer of thousands of people in giant battles and I think it could be something. Take out the BFR's because they look really gay and put people off then charge people for new weapons and vehicles as time goes on.

I really want to see Planetside saved and Free 2 Play is the way to go, I've seen sooo many worse Free 2 Play games out there that have hundreds of thousands playing.

they wouldnt make any money if it was f2p... why would they want to do that.

they would make money in ads and item shops its something they should have done a long time ago but instead they have a loyal following of casual gamers who don't mind paying 15 a month to play battlefield.

planetside going free to play would breathe life back into the game I miss playing ps everyday but can't stand the current population of the servers.

Asking to "Close" something down is usually people who are trolling for effect - or sour grapes over "If I can't play it, then tear it down."

Planetside is perhaps the only game where I can go in totally in a passive mood, and come out with adrenaline pumping with lots of heartt thumping fun.

Sure, the engine is dated, and graphics are not glossy - but that doesnt mean the game does not do what its supposed to do. It could do with some graphics love as long as it doesnt slow things down - and surely dont mean we shut it down.

As for free play - technically, I play it for free anyway with my SOE Station Access  Pay smart, play them all!

You beat me to it, I've been saying the same thing for a while. But this is being hosted by SOE, we ALL know SOE will not host any F2P games, they're greedy and hosts all their dead or dying games on the station pass to maximize their profit.

Hardly, there's barely 2K subscribers as far as I remember and went through at least 6 server merge stages over the years. I checked in with my veteran trial I got last spring, even Emerald was a ghost town with just 1 small hot spot which I couldn't get to in time before it vanished.

 

it's nothing like that now there are big fights literally every minute of the day.

There are stil greater battles in Planetside, than they are anywhere else.

PS needs to go F2P but it never will be completly F2P. PS needs to have more subsrcription plans based on highest BattleRank reachable. If nothing happens, it dies in one year IMO.

Hopefully we have Welkin game on the western market in these days.

If they had 3 levels of billing

Free = no levels and a time limit (1 hour a day).

Mini = 3-5 bucks a month, levels allowed, time limit (2 hours a day)

No commanding allowed

Unlimited = existing rate.

Only ones allowed to command

If they made an old time server I'd be back in a flash.

No bfr's and cave rubbish.

Never played PS. Can some one sum it up or compare it to something else popular?

There is no other game out there to compare it too, it's it own genre... MMOFPS so to speak, the only "other" game out and aobut that is somewhat similiar is World War II Online (But that is even more complex than planetside).

The game used to revolve around obtaining enemy bases and capturing 1 among 9 continents and raising your battle rank / command rank, however most the population in the game is already max battle rank (25) and there is lots of maxed out commanders (Command Rank 5).

Back when the statistic pages still were up and Sony shared statistics via XML to authorized users (web admins) people would keep playing to get the most kills out of everybody.  As of recent all stats sites have gone down, and of which may or may not have caused some of the hardcore players (Killwhores is what they call themselves) to leave.

Majority of the community has lots of beef with SOE because of how they treated this game in terms of "updates". I myself have major grudges with SOE Because they have ruined more than just Planetside for me, I also once loved SWG, in which I had no life and had a awesome *yay!!!* Jedi, which the purpose of the class was removed via "updates" yet again.  

I have as of recent returned to planetside however, because there is just something about it that no other game gives me in terms of entertainment. Maybe it's the fact that one soldier in the game (if they are good) can make one heck of a dffierence in a battle of 200 people.

There has been rumors and complaints that the game will die soon, I do not doubt it, but I will always love the game for what it once was and how it does have the fun factor that most other games cannot provide.

why not more than half the players just use free trials i never pay for it lol

F2P would be bad until they up their anti-hack software.  Free tirals cause alot of time wasted chasing down banning hackers already..and hacking in Ps is pretty game breaking

Better funding, advertising, updating of net code, regional servers (like trying to convince the chinese government thats its A.OK to have a server in china...although judging by the 7 total players on Werner it might be too little too late for some regions), even a graphics overhaul would be nice

Even better if some company that has the same vision as the original development team bought the license. (if they had lots of cash to spend)
