I dislike pvp as a general point of fact.
However.....
You PvP fans need Content? Type /pvp twice and you're SF and ready to go.
Beyond that, the Tick needs to be galaxy wide in ALL NPC Cities (not PC Cities to prevent alt farming). The rapidity of the decay needs to be looked as, since thanks to the NGE kids and the Vets that whined pre-NGE; Decay is supposed to be a bad thing. MMO History: 2528 days in SW:G |

SWG had a great PVP system before SOE ruined it trying to act like WoW. Funny thing is evey time they impliment WoW it looses more people. When are game companies going to realize if people wanted to play WoW they would....PLAY WOW. I had a pitifull comment in SWG last night that shows the attitude of GCW. I was asking how much standings you needed to join a faction nowadays. I mentioned I used to be imperial because the Rebels I usually encountered were usually ganking people like thugs. He said "it don't matter which side your on now. We're all friends now, this isn't 2003 anymore" All friends now? GCW is nothing more then mindless rewards now thanks to trying to yet again copy WoW. Also SOE needs to work on stopping these PVP exploits. There are serous exploits that allow people to use skills they should not be able to use, just as one example. I guess they think playing cards is more important then time and money into the actual game |

As for wow's system, they blatently stole it off SOE. Think back a few years, there wasn;t even any pvp system or battlegrounds in wow for months after release. Trying to say SOE copied Blizzard is just laughable.. As for the state of swg atm, it really isn't that bad of a game. Sure it has it's faults, but seriously, what game doesnt. The sandbox element of swg is still there, you can go out and craft, go loot items, go pvp and have city raids, whatever you feel like. What lets swg down is the stigma attached to the game. Look how far they have come since the awful release of the NGE in nov '05, theyve come a hell of a long way. What the game needs in all honesty is for people to try the game again. Instead of people logging in, seeing none of their old friends are online ( because thye all have teh same attitude) then logging off again. They need to actually go in game, find a good guild, who can show them the ropes of the new systems, instances whatever, and try them out. Just logging in, and moaning and griping without putting forth any real effort, does not achieve anythign whatsoever, |

The TEF system that was originally in the game was a great system. It incorporated PvE, PvP, and RP together IMO. If I was an Imperial officer, and I saw someone trying to kill one of my fellow soldiers (NPC or Player) I was able to come to their defense. Thats the way it should be. I shouldn't have to just stand there and watch someone assinate fellow soldiers, and be able to do nothing about it simply because the person is only set up for PvE content. I am generally more into PvE, and RP in a game. I PvP when it makes sense to do so from an RP perspective. I remember when there were great PvP battles back when Anchorhead or Bestine were the places to hang out at. It started to die during the hologrind. Then it just got worse as the devs kept nerfing, and "balancing" everything to cater to the whiners. If I was playing my mutt character of TK, and armorsmith I should lose a fight to a melee stack. That person invested all 250 SP into combat. I invested part of mine into it. I got just as much enjoyment from the game due to my character having several options as to how to spend time, but those options didn't always include combat. I think the balance was there in its own unique way. The sandbox feel to the game started to be removed from the game at the CU, and was obliterated from the game with the NGE. I am just somewhat surprised that anyone felt the need to write an article on SWG. Sony killed the game almost 3 years ago. The thing that replaced it isn''t anything like what SWG was intended to be, and honestly I have tried to play it when Sony sends the come back for a month for free promotions. There is almost no one playing. By far the deadest servers I have ever seen on any game. The gameplay feels like a random collection of bits and pieces from other games, but without the development time those games invested into making it work for them. The original game was far from perfect, but it was fun to play. It had bugs and exploits, but I have yet to see a game that doesn't.

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Just logging in, and moaning and griping without putting forth any real effort, does not achieve anythign whatsoever, You don't seem to have any idea what's been going on with SWG for the past number of years. With most of the changes made to the game, they openly admitted an attempt to make the game more like WoW to appeal to Wow's absolutely huge audience. Pointing this out isn't laughable, it's just reality. Finding a good guild is good advice, but much easier said than done in some of the more empty servers. If you log in, and if you find a good guild, then you'll still have to face all of the issues highlighted in the article, which was actually fairly balanced from my point of view. I've read much more scathing posts about the state of pvp, the GCW and the game in general. This was a nice attempt to be objective and informative I think.

ah I remember one of my first pvp experiences....bestin (gimp) ...anchorhead (rebs) and I show up as a medic and see 3 gimp players with their 3 faction ATST's wipe out the entire garrison of 38 rebels most of which had 3 rebel troops each. I the lone medic flung myself across the battlefield trying to provide field medicince to the incapacitated troops....saving one life...only to have mine instance snuffed out by those massive beasts......oh the fun.....
I agree w/ JesterRodo, Kauri pvp was long dead as well as the server as a whole. My guild of 478 was down to about 3-5 at my end days. I gave up on SWG ...and I am a real die-hard SW fan. After 4 yrs from day 2 I could take no more. So me and a few like minded others decided to make our own. It was good meeting you at the con though Jester. http://www.forceofarms.com/index.php |

Greetings,
The truely sad thing is that both Star Wars and Star Trek do not have MMOs, when both universes lend themselves readily to such a treatment. AS far as PvP, it should be prevelent, universal and non-consensual. Anything else is a single player game played co-op with others too afriad to fight. Enjoy, S*D |

"Screw the haters, I'm interested. Thanks for the notice/article, MMORPG." You know, only the real clueless use that term. This is a discussion forum, and if everyone provided a rosy picture it would be a completely useless discussion. Not to say that SWG is not a fun game to play still, it has it's moments, just as many have pointed out the depth and breath of the game has been removed long ago. It is up to you to make your own evalutation. The important thing to note here, most of the dedicated players are long since gone and they were what made the game what it was. Now all you are going to find is a few players attempting to do what many did before. Be sure to pick a server with some population as most are just ghost towns. |

PVP is utterly abhorent in SWG ruined by the NGE and the carebears that took over the game afraid to get thier hands dirty ruined it as well. Why do carebears not PVP ? Cause they can go Baseclub and sit afk and earn a rank and rewards for doing nothing. This game has gotten too casual player friendly as noone wants to risk dying or work for nothing anymore . The mindset in SWG now is why does he have it and I dont? Now I want the shiny or reward cause he has it and if I dont get it I'll whine about it.... (cries) The game is dead and the TCG just put the nail into the coffin.. (RMT for in game loot anyone?) This game stinks of bad mismanagment , bad decisons, poorly implemented content, tons of bugs , hardly a collision detection system there. Content that noone asks for is created. The economy is stagnant from people buying thier credits (high prices -greedy players) hostile community, and many other disapointments about the game that are 2 long to list . But thats my 2 cents... http://www.speedtest.net/result/1775656162.png |

I really disagree with you. Have you really understood what Star Wars Galaxies is about? There are plenty of PvP updates in SWG, balance is addressed in every update! Oh my God.. I hate journalists that spread lies.

P.S. for that matter, the Jedi Knight series had more of the Star Wars spirit in it than the entire run of SWG. |

I didn't last long on this game and I am a huge SW fan. I am still waiting for KOTOR online, but I will NEVER go back to SWG, even if they paid me $15 a month to play it. It just lacks. Id go into detial, but does it really matter?

I'm really surprised that George Lucas has allowed such a poor shadow of his incredible universe to exist. Makes one wonder if he has ever seen it. Nuke SWG and start over.
