I remember how fun UO was because every server was actually different because players could put up houses anywhere outside of towns as long as they could fit that particular structure there.  However, this eventually turned into a mess with houses EVERYWHERE and it really took away from the environment.  I hope that DF allows large, medium, and small zones for player houses so that the land is still preserved.  Also, give enough space where people don't have to camp and wait for a house to decay just so they can place one lol, wow that was always a pain, given I did have like 5 houses in UO lol. 

I loved being able to select different structures and build all my own furniture.  That type of control and freedom is just something that is not present in MMORPGs anymore.  Housing and crafting has to be solid, IMO, for this game to function well.  Nothing like having a house to store all your valuables and rares!  I'd like to see a video or something describing how housing will work, if in fact there even will be housing...which if there isn't let me know now so I can just go back to the WAR forums lol.

Housing will have set places where they can be put, you can not simly build one anywhere.

Also consider the fact very few people will even be able to afford houses seeming as a Clan City 'Dayar Rock' could have 100+ people bind to it however only 7~ houses were built.

Players will be able to set up houses of various sizes and design, ranging from small cottages to huge castles and citadels

You won’t be able to build cities anywhere but just at key locations, which means more conflict for the limited number of city spots.

Clanstones are placed in interestingly designed strategic areas near which clans can chose to build their cities

There's a very good work around.  Its a 2 tier method 

Have everyone get a private apartment inside the city, essentially you enter a residential housing disctrict and you are magically teleported inside your 1 room apartment (house), you leave your apartment and are back at the enterance to the housing district.  . 

Once players get a good ammount of money then they can afford to have a house built, drawback could be if they want their place in the city still, they now have to pay rent on their city apartment in addition to any upkeep on their new house.

Not knowing how much space is dedicated to housing, this work around should make just about everyone happy, and its better than yelling 'Bank'...

The problem with housing "zones" is that nobody will really want to go there except to visit housing.  It's much more immersive to be exploring and find someone's home in the wilderness or along some path.  The expense needs to be set intelligently though, and having predefined places where you can build seems like a nice way to prevent the overcrowding and junk from the UO days.

 

I just hope that there are enough real estate plots for player housing and cities to keep competition reasonable but also not too restrictive on locations to build.

Hopefully the map is large enough to host numerous housing areas. Some small housing lots out in the middle of nowhere would be nice. I'm sure we'll have a few hermits among us.

The apartment idea is something that wouldn't take up realestate and give everyone alittle storage space other than your back. Pretty good idea to me.

I just hope there housing system isnt setup like LOTRO it has to be the worse housing system in any MMO...  I like EQ2 style housing where there is apartments in towns for players to have a house... I think the clan should be able to build a INN in town and then there clan mates should be able to purchase apartments from that INN and the city should allow for a few housing spaces inside the city and around the cities walls where bigger housing can be placed for better players who contribute to the clan,houses like castle etc.

Well I don't agree with restricted zones for building houses. As someone said previously in this thread, it's quite immersive to be travelling in the wilderness and run into someone's wooden little house. Also makes people that live in forlorn locations be on their toes, as it's more likely that someone will try to break into your house if there's no guards around.

I think housing is out. At least single player housing. I believe housing will be reserved for clans

Looks like you are correct.  No player housing in Darkfall:(  This is a big negative for me.

Yes me too. I wish they had housing like UO. The fact that they have no housing, stealing skill, and a few other things are really big negatives for me which is a shame cause I really wanted to find a world to live in and not play a game.
