For all you people who cried "vaporware", I was wondering if you are preparing to apologize. Feel free to start here in this thread.

Don't jump the gun just yet.  You supporters will have your apology, when the conditions are met.

I will apologize...when I have played the free test period and experienced and/or have seen the features the Developers have aimed to put into this game.

Until then I remain skeptical about the mplementation of all features in the manner that has been boasted by Aventurine.

Other than that, I congratulate the DF Community on the video and hope they enjoy the days and weeks to come as the game prepares to launch. Have fun!

No, he is right. Anyone who said Darkfall was vaporware was wrong. Myself included, a few years back I uttered a couple such statements. And I was wrong. I apologize, Darkfall does not appear to be vaporware to me anymore.

It appears to be a crappy excuse for a game, even from an independent company. From those horrid videos it looks light years behind the competition. I mean, the colors, textures, animations, landscapes, just EVERYTHING looks ancient. The original Everquest had better attack animations. And the gore/blood effects looked ripped right out of Shadowbane. However, I did love the death throws of the dieing, looking up at the sky as if to say, "Why?". That's a nice touch.

Every DF fanboi shouts, its all in the features and gameplay. You guys are right, those are the most important things, but they are not the only things. Not to mention, those movies did nothing to ensure that the features are in the game and, most importantly, working correctly. All the movie accomplished was showing they had an engine and some combat could happen. The tiny amount of noncombat stuff in the movies was so fast there is no way of telling if any of those features work. And we all know, that features in a game only matter if they work correctly, it didn't take AoC to show us that, but it did remind us.

From what I saw, and the recent developments from DF. I would say, yes, the game does exist. It is not vaporware. I was wrong and I apologize. In my opinion, you would be better served if it WAS vaporware. If what we saw was the best they could pull of in 5-8 years of development. Then you are going to be banging your head into you keyboards when you actually get the misfortune to play this game.

Sincerely, I hope I am wrong and this game turns out kickass for all you fans of the game. I just don't think there is a snowball's chance in hell of this game being anywhere near what you want it to be. They promise too much, and have in 5-8 years delivered so little. It ain't happening. I am tired of games promising the world and delivering on practically nothing. Its giving this genre a bad name.

This is my honest opinion. I probably wouldn't play this game even if it was what they claim it will be, simply because I am not into FFA PvP. I have no desire to see this game fail. It means nothing to me at all. I would be glad for people who are into this kinda game to have one to play for years to come. I don' t think DF is gonna be it. I just call it like I see it. I have been playing online games since the days of MUD, and almost every major release since UO, and some minor releases. And from what I see, this is a monumental dissapointment on its way.

But to satisfy your lust for validation: I APOLOGIZE FOR CALLING DARKFALL VAPORWARE.

People define vaporware differently Doomsayer.  I for one know that I classify pretty much everything as vaporware till it's released.  Seen too many things I thought were interesting.  Never make it to the finish line.  UO2, UXO, Mythica, True Fantasy Online,  Dragon Empire.  Just to name but a small hand full.  I can't even remember the name of this one game that's in the back of my mind.  It had just announced it had gone gold, only to announce week later it had been scrapped.

I'm very happy about all the progress Darkfall has made recently.  Yes, I do believe it exist, and yes I do believe it will be releasing this year.  My definition of what I consider vaporware, it still falls into though.  It's the same measurement I use for all games,  Single and/or Multiplayer.

True. Many people have different ideas on what the term Vaporware means. To me, Vaporware is a game that never releases. Doesn't matter what kind of shape its in. Just as long as it releases. And I believe this game will release. I never said this game wasn't vaporware. I just apologized for jumping the gun and calling it that. It still remains to be seen, it may become vaporware. But in my definition of the word, I believe that it is not. So I apologized. In the end, I don't think it will matter much.

Sure, to Aaragon and some others people might owe an apology, but you just crawled out of the woodwork to now claim the creditt.

Its all a matter of probability. Prior to the release of this video, the probability of DF releasing was down around 10% in my book. 

Now I'll put it at about 50%. Long way to go to the finish line.

Tell you what, they let me in the beta and it plays anything like the video and I'll put one right up on these forums.

For your guys sake I do wish that it is everything you are looking for, because I would never wish that anyones game would fail, but from what I have seen so far this will be nothing but a bunch of guys running in circles in a FFA frag fest with there 8 year old PC becuase they can't play anything good.

let me help you all comprehend this its looks semi good if you download the file but you watched it on youtube and it looked horrible, the graphics them selfs are turned to medium including the shadows and textures, and spell animations, cannonballs, and maybe this ship ons ( not sure bout the ship ones) would turned all the way on low want to know why because the computers have a 6800 nvidia card and they are recording a video in HD and playing the game at the same time bad combo just maybe so yah the game will impress alot more when open beta is started.....also the animations looked choppy because they did a 3:4 ratio on the frame rate instead of 1:1 while they edited it so the video would not be 2 gigs.

Even if that is the case, still doesn't impress enough visually. And you didn't even address the host of other issues. The only thing the movie proves, in my opinion, is yes, they are working on the game. That's about it. DF fans hopes are already so high, I don't believe the game can meet up with their expectations. I don't think any game could. They promised too much, shown too little, and have a LONG way to go before its recognizable as what they promised. And releasing in a few months? Ugh...just....be ready to at least try to look at this game objectively. The hype is almost certain to dissapoint.

Exactly...the game is Crapware. I just finished watching that so-called trailer on youtube and its a joke. the majority of it is scripted, the UI is seen for like 10 seconds, most of it is bots just playing. I am not changing my mind about DF ever basically because in my mind its still Vaporware until it releases then after that ill be laughing when i read the first complaint about how bad the game sux IF it does release. I have seen the one game that has won awards for being Vaporware "Duke Nukem Forever" I saw a video a dude made at the dev's actual office showing its current state and its sweet...now we see a new vid of DF that shows what it looks like even more...and it sucked...actually i laughed my ass off the whole time since i didnt see anything new at all. Duke Nukem forever will release before this crap does....

Vaporware = No.

Questionable game? Absolutely.  The amount of circle jerking going on over a subpar gameplay demonstration video is astounding.  Maybe it's because the DF fans themselves can't believe it. The Duke Nukem of MMOs might actually launch.

Now the bad :

Limited beta if they decided foolishly to launch in 2008. 

Development cycle is questionable, ie, either funding or development plan is in question.

Now I know all of you DF guys have been chomping @ the bit to get a hold of Darkfall, and well, I understand that.  However, the shitpile of a video that was just demonstrated actually begs more questions than it answers.

The MMO world having just dealt with AoC, you'd think you guys would be a bit wiser, alas, hype in MMOs is everything it appears.

THis game as far as providing the features is probably pretty much there. This video showed a lot more than you would care to admit.
 

If you go through the video , well over a hundred skill and more .

Combat ,Magic, Clan cities, Sieging , Naval Warfare , Crafting , Bank Vaults. PvP , PvE I guess, Ranged combat close up combat. World scale and a lot of air magic. At least two very nice open air dungeon locations the Aztec temple (red over the bridge and also the dual wielding black nights and the clawy undead , and lizard men all NPC creatures.Tombstones probably holding all that nice full loot. Oh and we could go on, Al lot of the transient crafting goods will be just spawns , same system for generating NPC mob spawns with alternate options , the fact there are NPCs spawned means this is all functional.

Graphical detail on charachters shows a lot of variety and variation of weapon types lots of noticeable details.

 I may go through the video in detail later but not for this site as it is just full of doom and gloom merchants, but they showed a lot more than I expected. And just within the oh this only shows combat threads as with the list above you are proven wrong. The next step I guess will be extracting frames and times in the vid when all these things are evident as of course it will not be true with the evidence right in front of you.

Well done Aventurine , Well done DF Dev team and on a more amusing well done trolls and haters for keeping us all going.

 OH i forgot , Mounted combat , mounts, Various Siege Weapons, collision detection in numerous instances pure scale of the world from an X Y Z axis perspective. Climeable items oh  I will stop now

However, just because some people did not see what you saw in that movie, doesn't mean they are haters out to get you and DF. Though some are! So quick, DUCK!

When I say I sincerely hope the game is good and fills the desires of everyone in its niche, I actually mean it. I am just trying to instill some sense of objectivty into some of you in hopes that the, and this is only my opinion here, large chance of potential dissapointment won't hurt too much.

This kind of argument will never end, until the game is really release (which i'm still skeptical about it). Remember Gods and Heros? And it will stretch further after the game is release. Will the game really be good enough, and will everything that is promise is in ( AoC anyone)?

Pls lets us only discuss the actual gameplay of the game before and after its release.

Let us just end the nonsense  here , dont let this great forum be degrate further into pure bashing site...
