Just have to say that Darkfall trailer is the best gameplay trailer I've seen in any game, any genre, and I am by no means a fanboy.  20 minutes of pure action packed footage and it looked incredible.  Flame away if you want, but I challenge anyone to show me a better one.

I agree =) thats honestly what i think also, and I cant understand all the critique - I guess its all about where you are a coming from and what your expections are.

Alot of people seems to compare this to singplayer games, and complain about gfx, wtf.. oh well

That one is pretty good, but doesn't show half of what this one does.

ps. just read up on it, its unreal 3 engine, this will have tons of instances, and probably max be able to have 10 people fighting eachother at once, without massive lag. all eye candy, no substance.

He didn't really specify that it had to be PvP game, Full Looting, etc etc.  He just said a movie/trailer that looked better.  If that was the case then Darkfall would win by default as nothing else down the road.  Is shooting for the same stuff as Darkfall.  Unless you count Mortal Online, but no one really knows when/if that will ever happen.  If you broaden it to include Sci-Fi and not just fantasy (Hybrids to).  You could probably throw Earthrise and I believe JumpGate:Evolution, and to lesser extent Fallen Earth into it.

I don't blame you, I stopped reading your post as soon as I saw NC Soft.

It didn't show how in depth the crafting system would be, it didn't  show the supposed 500 skills that are supossed to be in the game, it didn't show the dungeons, it didn't show the quests, it only showed mobs for a few seconds.

95% of the video was player characters bashing each other. That part looked pretty good. But there still is a lot of stuff we didn't see. So it definately wasn't the best video ever.

Okay, I just sat through the entire set of videos, and while I'm sure I'll get flamed as a troll (even though I've never once posted something negative about DF), I have to say I'm not very impressed.  For all the hype, you'd think that it would look more polished.  I won't lie, the magic effects were pretty, hands down, but other than that, it doesn't seem to be anything that sets it apart visually (I'll save my criticism of the game for when I actually play it).   The movement also seemed very forced.  It didn't flow with the environment, which also seemed very static.

I also wish they would have shown some real in-game footage, where we could see the interface at work, rather than a scripted video.

But those are my two cents.  Flame away.

I completely agree.  As someone who has been following DF for over 7 years this was a big disappointment. 

1.  The spell effects looked like they were taken right out of Everquest.
2.  Animations were stiff and jerky, not smooth at all.
2a.  It seems like the bottom half of the torso can not do anything but run and jump. (Which both look bad)
2b.  Swimming only showed arm movement, attacking only showed upper torso movement, and they were both bad.
2c.  You can really tell that the animation was done by an amateur.
3.  No mobs at all?  Everything they were fighting appeared to be pets, or other players.
4.  No shots of the UI.
5.  No shots of anyone actually playing the game.  2 seconds of trading items, and another 2 seconds of the crafting menu, which looked horrible as well.
6.  Seemingly no use of skills for melee characters.  I did not see one special move from a melee character in the entire video.  If all melee combat is going to be is run in and click click click click to kill someone, I'll pass.
7.  With 500 skills in the game, I only saw maybe 20 being used... where are the other 480 skills?

Real fast just an observation.

Does an FPS really HAVE a UI?

If you look at the upper left hand corner and lower right hand corner you can see a collapsed UI or what appears to be one, but why would you have that up when your doing some fast paced FPS stype combat?

Oh if you watch the archer video you see a yellow bar before they shoot, much like Fable or other games I bet your shots are stronger the longer you hold it and that was pehaps a bar related to that?

My point is perhaps the UI only comes up when needed.  As the evidence suggests.

wasnt meant for that and tasos already said there crafting is no new wheel. crafting is in thats all it matters we will know when beta starts.
